They said Doctor Strange has a photographic memory in the movie which is how he learned so quickly. There were scenes of him reading plenty of the magical books. Stranger also still struggled with his magical abilities through out the movie. They left his training time for the audience to decide but seemed like months of training. On top of that they also have the plot device to mess with time and dimensions. Where as this movie picks up right after TFA and is only a matter of days or even a few weeks if that.
There is no time lapse scene like there is in Strange.
I didn't mind Kylo in TFA as I saw in him the want to be like Vader, but someone who would never attain that level ever. Kylo was missing the point of why Anakin became Vader. It wasn't out of being evil, it was out of love with help from a manipulative 'mentor' who pushed that love so much it became twisted into jealousy and resentment. And that is what made Kylo intriguing to me initially as he was a 'wannabe' but ultimately he would become a 'neverbe' as he lacked the reason to be unlike Vader.
Now, randomly he kills Snoke and takes over.
Vader only turned back because of his love for Luke and the fact Palpatine was going to kill him. It took the ultimate thing for a parent to see to push him back and turn on his master. Kylo, what was his motive really? the character has just become a villain for the sake of it now and all the initial premise in TFA has gone. I just don't hate him or love him like I did any other villain in Star Wars because there is no reason to do so. He is just 'there' as the trilogy baddie.
Kylo kills him because Snoke belittles him and treats him like a abused pet in need of his approval. We saw how angry Kylo got when Snoke mocked him for wearing the helmet.
Kylo's motivation is that he is insecure and conflicted. What better way to feel like your the big man than killing your boss and ruling the galaxy yourself? Kylo ruling is what he thinks would make him looks strong and worthy of the Vader's legacy.
I don't think Kylo would actually be good or that interested in the day to day ruling of the galaxy in the long term. He doesn't strike me as the type of guy that has the patients or interest for governance.
