I just hope those rumors of Luke taking on the Knights of Ren are true

Hope that's true, would love to see that! Source? Link?
And we see it's all a ruse and we learn in that scene Kylo is actually protecting Rey from the Knights of Ren:cwink:

They definitely filmed a confrontation of some kind but I don't think those rumors are entirely true anymore.

It was posted awhile back. Supposedly the scene involved Rey going up against Kylo while Luke is taking on the Knights

Star Wars is probably my favorite franchise and a big part of my childhood, but I'm sad to say I'm having a lot of trouble getting excited for this one. I wasn't the biggest TFA fan, and judging by some of the stuff that's come out of Making Star Wars recently, I may like like this one even less. I hope I'm wrong, I hope it's great, but I'm kind of worried at this point. If nothing else, I hope it's watchable and fun like TFA and I hope they make Luke a cool, wise Jedi mentor.

What are you hearing that you aren't liking?

Should I use spoiler tags or just post it? I'll use tags for now, if it's okay to remove them, I will.

According to Making Star Wars:

There are going to be cutesy Force-sensitive puffin-like birds on Luke's island. They're called "Porgs", and significant to the plot.

Luke carries a cattle prod weapon, possibly to fight off animals.

Chewbacca "goes back to nature". (???)

Luke reunites with Chewbacca and R2 which is nice, but this is the ONLY reunion he will get in this trilogy. No reunion with his sister Leia.

Apparently Snoke is a rich, ritzy villain with a lavish throne room, Kyber rings on his fingers, and "jester shoes".

There is a Stormtrooper with a baton like in the last one, but now it has spinning chainsaws.

Finn dresses up as a First Order officer and sneaks around a Star Destroyer. This isn't a bad storyline as long it has purpose, but apparently one of his old buddies recognizes him (why he isn't arrested as a traitor I don't know) and apparently gives him a friendly slap on the...er...rear end...

This is all in addition to the expected OT references, MSW claims there are new versions of A-wings, B-wings, Tie Advanced, Tie Bombers, AT-STs, a 'bigger' Super Star Destroyer, 'bigger' AT-AT Walkers (With a weird cartoon face you won't be able to unsee), and from the trailer we've seen the Rebel frigates 2.0.

I can't link to every source, but if you read through MSW, it sounds like this movie is going EXTREMELY in depth with the mysticism of the Force. I get that some people want that, but to me that gets less interesting the more they focus on it (which is part of where I take problem with the prequels). I've always seen the main focus of Star Wars as the gritty lived-in environment and the tech-based universe combined with just enough mysticism here and there to wet our appetite. This sounds like a whole platter, complete with Force-using animals and possible reincarnation (see below).

Making Star Wars leaked a pretty accurate synopsis of TFA half a year before it came out as well as other TFA and Rogue One info, so unless some of this is cut or changed, it's probably true.

This is just what comes to mind off the top of my head, I'm sad to say that nothing I've heard about this movie thrills me (aside from maybe seeing more of Kylo's character arc and the return of Luke). Granted, nothing I've linked to sounds offensively horrible either, but is it just me or does it all seem kind of...undignified and borderline silly? It seems more like something you'd write for a young adult novel, not a major motion picture.

I'm sure they'll be an audience for this stuff, but when I think of Star Wars I think of a fun adventure with gritty and serious undertones, cool new ships an characters; not
chubby birds that can use The Force, and Stormtrooper rear-end slaps.

Also, it didn't originate from Making Star Wars, but the
rumor has been circulating for about a year now, and some stuff from MSW hits at it at least being significant to the plot, I just hope this particular rumor is false. If you're not familiar with it the rumor it's that
The Chosen One reincarnates whenever The Force is out of balance, and Rey is the latest "Chosen One" succeeding Luke and Anakin. Keep in mind this is in keeping with Rebels where Ben Kenobi tells Maul that Luke IS the Chosen One.

^"Unto each generation ect. ect. ..."

That's been one of my Rey theories for a bit.

Re: ^ spoilers.
LOL Hadn't seen allot of those, I see where you are coming from, when collected all together they can seem a bit hokey.
Allot of them could be minor details, that named and scrutinized standing in the props department may stand out, but in the broader sense of the full edited film might be mostly meaningless.

Like if someone judged ESB by a leaked description of Ugnaughts and Chewbacca playing keep-away with 3PO's head, judging the entirety of ESB based on that scene, sounds really stupid.
Even though it turns out to be in the film, in the end it does not speak to the tone and quality of the movie at all.

As far as some of the supposed greater concepts and plot reveals, I'll give a chance to see if/how the movie takes time to develop and expand on them, can't judge to much on one-line summaries and second-hand interpretations, allot of the ideas in SW described that way could sound pretty silly. (eg I loath the idea of something like a "force-Tree" being an actual thing we see explained, that is overwrought, but a scene with just subtle visual parallels to Luke's unnamed "tree-cave" experience, that would be fine). It's how the ideas play out in the actual film that matter.

The most disconcerting thing to me that you list was the Luke / Leia, hopefully that is not true. Although the painful emptiness that fact would leave the film (and character), may perfectly play into the weight of a middle act.

@Mondragon

You raise some good points, I suppose every Star Wars movie has things that, if taken out of context, could seem a little silly. I remember back when I first heard about Rogue One I didn't like the idea of a Star Wars movie without John Williams based on Saving Private Ryan, but it turned out to be one of my favorites. I guess we'll just have to wait until it comes out.

All great!
LOL, Didn't they used to do them all together in one extended fold out cover.
Figured breaking them up, they sell more copies :woot:

Was also hoping we might get a Laura Dern, Benicio Del Toro cover reveal. They are really holding tight to that reveal.

Where's Chewie, damnit?! Rian and Colin better not sideline Chewie now that Han is dead!:argh:

Other than the absence of Chewie and I like the covers. We've got Rey and her grump uncle; the angry homicidal ginger and his sulky emo rival and their grumpy silver soldier; the two BAMFs and their quirky tech geek shoved in the corner; and last but not least we've got the regal princess. Pretty good.
