"I still think she's Rey's mom," dude at my office who hasn't seen it yet is still insisting.

The scene of Jynn and Cass on the beach waiting for the shockwave ughh

Although I've had more than a few viewings of TFA since it came out, this movie made me feel better. Yes, it all still technically ends up the same, but this movie literally ended on hope, despite what all happens in the film, while TFA ended on hope, but killed a beloved OT character, and basically said at some point after RotJ, all the characters we loved lives went to crap anyway. I'm sure they'll bring the new trilogy full circle and we'll end at another point where we find everyone left alive happy, but I can't say if it'll be at the cost of our remaining OT characters.

It's like Orson Welles always said "If you want a happy ending, it depends on when you end the story."

Came back from my 2nd viewing and going for a 3rd one tomorrow.

Can't get enough of the movie, nor of Vader's awesomeness.

Personally didn't think the first part/planet jumping was that bad. I think it was appropriate for the type of story they were trying to tell. Don't know if having a crawl could maybe have alleviated the need for that altogether or at least help explain why.

But I do understand that you couldn't really do a crawl and have that prelude bit with Krennic coming to get Galen.

They should've had C-3P0 and R2 walk past the door Princess Leia was behind instead of still being on the Yavin Base. It'd make the beginning of Ep. IV really immediately after RO

You could technically watch this movie and A New Hope right after and it would segue into it pretty seamlessly.

I know people didn't think it was necessary but I LOVED how they explained what to this day has been one of the biggest "wtf" of Episode 4...the idea that an entire space station could be destroyed buy one shot through an exposed shaft.

To learn that it was intentional changes everything.

The Good:

-The cast is likeable.
-It's suitably dark and takes some risks.
-It was nice seeing Bail Organa and Mon Mothma.
-Star Wars Rebels references/cameos.
-That Vader scene might have been fanservicey, but I don't care because it was awesome.
-Some cool action.
-Etc.

The Not So Good:

-The score was, meh. Not terrible, but just ok.
-Krennic ended up being kind of disappointing as a villain.
-The first act is kind of wonky and not structured all that well.
-Some of the dialogue (which was fine overall) was wonky to.
-CGI Tarkin was, distracting. CGI Leia was, even worse and also completely unnecessary. Leia being there is fine, but do it a different way.
-The characters could have used more fleshing out (more on that later).
-Some of the best/coolest scenes/dialogue from the trailers/TV Spots were cut out of the movie (reshoots).
-Galen Erso was underused.
-Etc.

Also it's not a "complaint" per se, but I'm not sure how I felt about the ending. I did respect the guts that it took to do that, and I get what they're going for. But IDK if I completely liked/bought into them needing to do that. Also, the characters not being fleshed out enough dampened some of the impact for me personally.

But overall, I'd give it an 8.5/10 right now.

Why didn't they have a couple of Bothans in the scene with Vader towards the end just to keep the continuity?

The Bothans stole the plans to the second DS in ROTJ. This was the first one, from ANH.

Dude... appreciate the answer. :woot:

As many times as I've seen these films... you'd think I'd remember that, ah well.

They could have, actually. The crawl could have been a short summary of the story from "Catalyst". The opening scene with Krennic finding Galen would fit perfectly then.

The film assumes that the audiences have already read "Catalyst" (which is a perfect set-up of the relationship between Galen and Krennic). Still a small critique here for jumping straight into the opening scene without providing any background info (not until later on through the film).

There was a lot from the trailers/TV spots cut out.

What is the title of the song that plays when Vader starts hacking down Rebel scum? :o

I give it a 5/10. I may like it better on repeat viewings, but as my first impressions, it's a 5/10.

I don't know why Darth Vader seems so awkward to me. His cape and mask/helmet look so incredibly cheap. I've seen cosplays that look far more "official" and more expensive. I think it's because you can tell how lightweight it is. Vader has always came across as "heavy" on screen, and in here his physical weight (costume wise) seemed far too light and thin. And I also agree that I think it's time to get someone else to voice Vader. You can literally hear Vader struggle to speak in a few parts here and there.

I loved the planet hopping and the names of the worlds being displayed. And I loved the action, cinematography and some of the humour. Jyn was the only character of the main cast I cared about, however. All the other characters were so paperthin and uninteresting and bland. Saw was truly awful and one of the single worst characters in the movie. Donnie Yen had some great action scenes, but he was extremely annoying, and I think the less they gave him to say, the better he would've been. They should have given him the silent, mysterious treatment, in all honestly. Even K-2SO, who looked fantastic on screen, wasn't nearly as funny as I had hoped he would be.

Tarkin and Leia were fine. The shortcomings for Tarkin were that he was too stiff in some areas which gave it away. But his character work was great and his voice acting was perfect. I think maybe they should have used scenes and cuts of Tarkin from ANH and reanimate it to fit the scenes in RO as a better option (maybe they tried and it sucked, so who knows).

In closing, I felt TFA had the adventure, the humour, the excitement, and the magic that this film lacks.

I saw it again, and I liked it a lot better. And I already really liked it. :woot:

Glad to hear! I saw it for a 2nd time today as well and loved it! Seeing it for a 3rd time tomorrow.

Vader is pure awesomeness!

I LOVED it.

Maybe be the movie of the year for me, out of the blockbusters I've seen. Yes, the first 20-30 minutes do drag a bit and it has pacing issues, but my GOD the last 30 are just perfection. After a year of movies with a weak third act, this one delivers on all the levels.

And while you could tell that
Tarkin
is artificial, he looked nothing short of amazing to me - I bought every second.
Lea
less so, but still fantastic.

Dark Daddy can have all my money - I could have had an entire movie of Vader sass, him cutting down rebel scum and Tarkin/Krennic measuring contests, epic backstabbing.

All in all, Rogue One exceeded my expectations and was the first movie on my most expected list not to disappoint me, after X Men and Suicide Squad.

One slight negative - the music was totally not Star Wars, I needed more recognizable themes then what we got.

Force Awakens had better characters, this one better story and action, but overall Rogue One comes on top between the two for me.

If the Threepio & R2 are on Yavin base, how do they hook up with Leia & the Tantive 4?
