General Zod confirmed as the villain.

Zod's an amazing villain, but some people don't actually read anything so I'm not surprised all they think of is superman 2 and him being overused (which I guess one film is overused). Funny how the joker can appear more then once though. Brainiac will probably be used too and if anyone has been keeping up with recent comics is easy to see how brainiac-luthor-zod could be great villains for a trilogy and that they all tie in really well.

What's funny is if they use Zod in the reboot, people claim the villain to be overused, but yet people are wanting to bring back Doc Ock and/or Green Goblin for the Spidey reboot.

The more I think about it, the more I like Zod being the villian. Hope we get alot Kryptonian backstory going on with the film...oh yeah, I'm getting excited:up:

Have they still not learnt from this whole rehashing thing? How are they not going with Brainiac?

We know Nolan didn't learn from it. Afterall, he gave us both the Joker AND Two-Face. What a travesty that turned out to be.

well for me, so far in 5 superman films... the only villains we've had from the comics really are Lex and Zod. and i find that kinda sad. Lex should be in every superman film as far as i'm concerned... and I'm all for Zod coming back, but only if other villains are used too.. such as braniac. at least throw someone new in there.

joker is needed to batman, just as much as Lex is needed for superman and norman osborn is needed for spider-man.... so I really don't think that's a fair assessment. Also... Two-Face was finally done right.... and not a joke (like how i'm hoping Lex will finally be done in this film, should he be in it)

I'm sure there's a good reason for starting off with Zod. The way I see it, sometimes you can't rush things. Sure we all want new villains, but I for one want them only when the story calls for it. I love action and superfeats, but it needs to be justified by a good story. Maybe Zod is just the most logical first villain in Goyer's and the Nolans' vision?

I'd say we'll finally get a Luthor that's not a dumpy old man with a ridiculous plot. I'd wanted the Lex from Lex Luthor: Man of Steel since I first read it. He actually has a self justified reason for hating Superman, and sees himself as the savior that will protect the world from the alien. Aside from the Joker, the best villains are the ones that think of themselves as being right and just.

First off, this was actually part of why he went with Scarecrow and Ra's in Begins. AFTER establishing things amazingly, he went on to Joker and TwoFace.

So far, with Superman, they have seemed to focus on re-hashing, and not worked out very well.

I'm not really hating using Zod, though with I may be Zoded out with Smallville.

They just should try what they did with Batman, and rebuild from the ground up.

Zod's associated with Krypton. I thought the film couldn't feature anything regarding Superman's origin because of the Siegel/Shuster situation.

Well Goyer did say there would be heavy Kryptonian history in the reboot, so it makes sense that we get a Kryptonian villain such as Zod. Brainiac would make sense as well, but I agree that an overlapping storyline could happen, such as Brainiac coming in for the sequel, possibly as a lead-way into bringing Doomsday. THAT would be a hella epic trilogy.

I didn't think Zod was that old. Was he there from the very beginning? Maybe they just can't do Superman's origin (which I wanted)... because if they follow the logic of not using anything associated with Krypton, you couldn't even make a Superman movie.

See that's what I don't understand. If everything in Action Comics #1 were off limits, how can they even make a Superman movie at all? Afterall, that would include the character of Superman, not just the origins.

Looks like theres going to be a heritage theme going if zod is the villian. You can bet Brainiac will be involved somehow. I hope we get a more alien superman suit playing on kryptonian heritage.

Please have multiple villains, please have multiple villains...

And by multiple villains I don't mean Zod, his two Krypton lackeys, and Lex Luthor.

That's sarcasm if it isn't obvious already. :P

But I see that Nolan saw those two as the logical next step for Batman. Just like this time around, instead of Zod coming second, after Luthor, he's in the first movie. It's not about using someone who has never been used, but whoever best represents the themes of the movie.

either way zod is retreading something that's been done! bring on something new. goyer wrote a movie with ra's al ghul, carmine falcone, and the scarecrow to revitalize a dying franchise. none of them have been seen on the big screen or live action small screen. why not do the same for superman by bringing in something fresh and new to superman movies? why would they go back to zod when brainiac, parasite, bizarro, and countless other villains, who aren't kryptonian, can deliver on the "more action" facelift that superman so desperately needs?

Because maybe they don't fit the story? Ever think of that one? :p
