Ghostbusters 3 - Part 2

There was no reason to make the team all male in the original either.

Sure there was. Aykroyd originally envision the whole thing as a vehicle for he and his buddies from SNL - Belushi and Murphy. Egon was largely written for Ramis after Harold came on to help ground things. The characters were male because they were written for performers who happened to be male.

This fair, this latest bit of news sounds a lot more like "we're making them female because we can," with no other real reasoning.

To an extent I get where Feig is coming from. Making say James Bond female would be a gimmick.

However there is nothing intrinsically about the Ghostbusters team concept that says it should be an all male bunch anymore than there's something written in stone that STAR WARS must always have a caucasian lead(which similarly has been discarded by Abrams and co with the choice of John Boyega). I personally don't care for a GB 3 to be made but assuming this does go ahead making the team female quite frankly is a far fresher idea than practically everything else we've heard over the years about the project.

Just because I'm not thrilled at the idea of an all-female team doesn't mean I'm advocating an all-male one. Please stop making this assumption.

The original team is all guys because that's who all blue collar, time card-punching workers were at the time (there are minimal exceptions), which is the basic premise of the franchise. That's changed to a small extent, but it's not like it's a complete, 180º turnaround.

The Ghostbusters were scientists. Well, except for Winston.

It's the curse of remakes that they get criticized for being unoriginal while being expected not to change too much. Personally, I think it's good for this to set itself apart, and I'm cool with it being all female. It's certainly preferable to a sequel without Peter or Egon.

I'm not going to try to cast it, but Ellie Kemper jumped out as someone I think would be good.

The premise was blue collar average Joes. Yeah they were scientists, but they were schmucks about it.

I adore Ellie. I love her in just about everything.

Was being the operative word. But even if they do maintain that aspect, there are tons of blue collar women.

I don't care if the cast is all female, all male, or all platypus. It's not going to be as good as the original because the unique blend of brilliant talent which made that movie a comic masterpiece can't be replicated. Which means it'll be worse, and why make a reboot that's got no chance of being as great as the original?

I don't see how they could say it would be Ghostbusters anyway, if they don't have any of the original actors or writers from the movie, what's going to make this one Ghosbusters? Using the logo? Just calling it Ghostbusters even though it won't have anything in common with the 1984 film? If it's just funny people fighting ghosts, you don't NEED to call it Ghostbusters, it's not like they copyrighted the concept. it'll be a lot less stress if they just drop that idea and make their own ghost hunting comedy. They'd have plenty of fodder with all of the paranormal shows on TV now (Ghost Hunters, Ghost Adventures, etc.). They could do a lot with that and never need to touch the Ghostbuster name at all.

Look, I'm not sexist, I'm all for females on the team, its one thing that made me like Extreme Ghostbusters a lot. but an all female team, I just don't want. It just screams like a gimmick because they can't decide on a great story. Hell, Max Landis had a damn decent idea even if it did have ties to Gozer again. Just make a new villain and run with those. I guess if Aykroyd and Hudson at least appear, we can save this to a point, but for now, this s nothing like I ever imagined and can't imagine enjoying it.

So, all the articles keep saying reboot. Are we talking Jurassic World sequel/reboot, or flat out remake with women?

The whole "all female" team thing is kind of gimmicky, but so is Ghostbusters in some ways. As far as "Why do it if the originals aren't starring/in it?" For the same reason people watched The Real Ghostbusters and have interest in a GB III at all...the characters and moreso the concept itself is fantastic.

I think it's best to leave the series alone and let it die with dignity. I'm perfectly content with the two movies, the two cartoon series and the video game which was GB3 in game form. They waited far too long to make GB3 and too much can go wrong with it at this point.

personally much like the new tmnt movie should have done just mine the idw gb comics for a new team, characters and story

For anyone paying attention to the upcoming Adam Sandler Peter Dinklage movie Pixels it seems by the premise and style they are really going for a Ghostbusters vibe.

I wonder if the sucess (or failure) of this film will have any bearings on the Ghostbusters reboot?

Yeah, I got a Ghostbusters vibe with Pixels too.
They also tried to recreate that with The Watch, with Ben Stiller, and it was a terrible, terrible movie. It's a difficult mix that Ghostbusters did greatly.

The closest anything came to capturing the spirit was "Evolution," which was directed by, not very surprisingly, Ivan Reitman.

True. And he also clearly tried to recreate Ghostbusters himself again, with another 'logo'. It didn't become as famous as the ghost, but I still think is a nice, fun little movie.

So the other day I tweeted my thoughts on a new female GB cast:

Emma Stone
Aubrey Plaza
Stephanie Beatriz
Jessica Williams

…And Stephanie Beatriz herself favorites my tweet! I wonder if she would have any interest in being part of this potential project.

This idea sounds as awful as "Expendabelles". It reeks of the studio saying we cant reboot this thing with all new members of males without being compared to the original but if we do a female verison we'll not only advert that headache but tap into the female demo as well. I highly doubt this project will see the light of day period but who knows with hollywood.

I would like to see at least one female member in a new Ghostbusters team.

I don't mind females being Ghostbusters; I didn't mind the cartoon Extreme Ghostbusters. I actually liked the characters of Kylie and Eduardo, and honestly would love if they were referenced in GB3.

What I don't like is the schtick of just making it an all female team.
Want an all-female team? Fine, but don't just make it your angle. It's a set up for failure.

I personally wouldn't mind a team that's more than 4 people. I want adult Oscar, I want Janine back, I would personally adore if Rick Moranis returned(I know this third thing is just fan-wishing that I'll never get).

I don't think a GB3 time has passed, but color me pessimist, but so far nothing recently reported sounds good.

Despite rumors and what not there is a reason there hasnt been a ghosbusters film in 2 decades. Theres nothing left to tell thats interesting enough to go back to the franchise. If the original cast churned out a average to crappy sequel in there prime as comedic actors do you really think the studio with just akroyd involve 20 years later could do any better?

This has indiana jones 4 written all over it.

It's time to put the series to bed to be honest. It wasn't even in need of a second film let alone a third.
