Ghostbusters 3 - Part 4

I'm confused. We're getting the male cast of Pratt and Tatum (tough is that confirmed yet?) and also the choice of this female cast. What is the central problem here exactly? This thread is such a cluster**** I don't even know everybody's opinion.

I agree that it's not good to entirely dismiss what came before because without that there wouldn't be this to begin with. But if you're not going to name what came before, at least be respectful to it and I would hope in some sense they mind the original film. This is a brand that's built on a foundation of the original film so it's important to still be mindful of it. From the set photos it seems like they are so far but still it's own thing. That's fine.

No kidding. You say anything about this you're a sexist misogynist. You say you don't want a black Spider-Man or a black Johnny Storm, you're a racist, you say you don't want [insert straight superhero] to be gay, you're a homophobe

Everyone's a SJW now, sickening.

Btw, I wouldn't care if it's an all female cast, I watch shows that are all female driven, current show I'm watching right now is The L Word (that was after watching Orange is the New Black) I'm in the third season, the last episode I watched, Bette and Tina were having a difficult time with the adoption agency lady and ended with Tina chatting online with a guy. I even have the chorus of the theme song memorized.

The problem I have with this GHINO movie is that if they're not going to follow the continuity, use an all female cast and throw the middle finger at what Dan Ackroyd and Harold Ramis created, then name it something else, change up the logo, make the proton packs look different, or don't use proton packs, find another way to trap the ghosts. Get rid of the director and Melissa McCarthy (those two are the real problem I have with this).

This isn't Ghostbusters. It's a cheap knock off that's going to fail.

Since I'm black and I don't want a black Johnny Storm does this make me a Uncle Tom or any derogatory slur under the sun?

From Tatum's last comments on the subject, it's probably not going to happen which is fine. Announcing that project right after you just announced and cast this version seemed like nothing more than spite and a tactic to just appease pissed off fanboys.

I think I got cooties from this thread. Look out yall.

I don't know, go ask the Social Justice Warriors.

I always thought that if you didn't want a character to be race lifted that you were just a purist, but according to many, you're a racist. I don't know what the SJWs reactions are to that.

I'm offended by that derogatory term. change it or I'll report you.

I bet on a fail AFAIC. It's a gut feeling. I have no faith in resurrected franchises.

Jurassic World is there to give resurrected franchises a big friggin' shot in the arm. The reviews are ok, I thought it was 'pretty' good and...BAM...breaking records and over a billion dollars.

I'm not necessarily banking a billion dollars or anything for Ghostbusters, but it'll turn a profit if it's actually funny and entertaining. Being a reboot and starring women won't hurt it IMHO, but if it's not good then all of this discussion is null and void. Then I'll raise my torch and pitchfork to Feig and company.

If i ask them, I'll be tempted to make a Spider-Man '67 "THIS SJW CAMPAIGN GAVE ME CANCER" meme.

They're anarchists; nothing more nothing less but anarchists who get their jollies of rocking everyone else's boats. They could care less about the changes they demand or the characters they use as their prop. Come to think of it, they're the very thing Duckman kept destroying through Fluffy and Uranus 20 years ago

At this point, there can be no "proper" Ghostbusters movie. Harold Ramis is gone. So any new Ghostbusters movie will be widely different than what we have gotten in the past. So yes, it is kind of bad to want a "proper" Ghostbusters movie. Because it will never happen again.

But the sheer focus on the all female cast is highly disturbing. I don't know what makes an all female team so offensive compared to an all male or mixed team. Why does the all female team (with some good talent) make it not a "proper" Ghostbusters movie? I mean, just look at the sexist comments in this thread.
Difficult to say. I just don't like the idea and it feels forced. It would be much better if there was both men and women in the team. I really liked the Extreme Ghostbusters cartoon. They should make live-action version of that.

LOL

Love how the word "social justice warrior" is some new terrible thing to call someone. Heaven forbid people try to rock the boat and try to change the status quo of white men being the only people that matter an appear in popular media.

I honestly don't mind about female cast or whatnot. I just don't feel it, it will be another tasteless product trying to ride on nostalgia ( I only know the movies, I've never been interested in the cartoon etc ).

That being said, this new GB seems to have a better buzz and hype than Terminator Genisys.

personally, I just think the cast (outside of Wiig) and the director suck, and don't fit with the GB style of humor that made the original so endearing.

as far as the all female thing, it feels a bit gimmicky specifically because it was announced as "the all-female ghostbusters by the guy who made bridesmaids!!"

for those who want to inspire change and true equality in Hollywood, they should push for the team to be 2 males 2 females, 2 of which are white, one's black, and one is Latino (if we're going off US demographics, Hispanic people have more to complain about than anyone when it comes to under-representation)

This is definitely the line for that and there is no might only is. Everyone offends someone now for something. I dont like this cast at all and this age of fembot movements only furthers my thoughts.

You're holding the line at Ghostbusters?

Keep fighting the good fight, son.

I still don't understand why the female cast is a problem. I mean these are new characters right? The haven't turned Venkman into a woman :hehe: (Not saying that would a problem per se, just something that fans would probably not agree with) So what is the problem here?

Because the team wasn't like that in the original and it feels really forced. People have been wanting to see a new normal Ghostbusters movie for a long time and then they get this. It's not hard to understand. :)

I think if it was like two guys and two girls, or one girl and three guys no one would *****. Hell, make it three girls and two guys.

There are people who will ***** over anything. The trick is figuring out which reasoning is worth respecting.

I like McCarthy is some things. I like Wiig a lot.

I just didn't really want to see them as Ghostbusters. Nor do I like rebooting it.

Aubrey Plaza
Kiersey Clemons
The Broad City girls
Aisha Tyler
Jillian Bell (she was a runner up)
Cobie Smulders
Rashida Jones
Kerry Washington
Retta
or some other lesser known actreses
are women I would've rather seen

I also just think Feig is full of s***. I heard him on NPR talking about diversity and how he wants to show funny women, but to me all he's doing is showing how white women are funny and how black women are funny some of the time. As for other races forget about it.
I don't usually hold it against a movie or creator if they don't have a lot of racial diversity, but I just don't like when they claim to be all for diversity and still there film isn't really that diverse at all

That all aside...if the movie looks good and is good then all this doesn't matter to me. Feig isn't a bad director to me, so I'll just wait and see

Sucks that Genisys turned out to be crap. Had an interesting premise.

Yes...outside of nerd boards there's a lot of good buzz fir GB.

I watch the movies every year, going through the cartoons with the boys, have my own prop pack, and have read through the most recent comic series. I'm a diehard fan and I have high hopes for the new film.

I don't get it. 4 months ago everyone was like "they are not going to respect the previous ones/ they will probably update everything / this sucks / they're rebooting and changing everything!"

Now the first pics come, which show an unexpected resemblance to the originals and everyone's like "that doesn't look hi-tech at all! / they're not even new! / it sucks, they look too much like the old ones!".

Oh my god Rashida Jones, Retta, Aubrey Plaza, and Amy Poehler starring as Ghostbusters would have been amazing!

.

Where? I see some forum members keep speaking it, but I have yet to see it. Almost every article I've been to this week that reported the uniforms/packs/set pics had negative comments (and yes, even from women) about how they were excited for the film up until that point when they found out it was an actual reboot that has nothing to do with the originals nor have any of the original cast back. That's cool you guys hang out in Paul Feig's twitter feed and support the project, but the tides are swiftly turning now that everybody is realizing that this is a complete makeover.

by focusing all posts on the girl's breasts behind Melissa isnt this proof that the boys are angry with this movie because the studio didnt cast hot sexy womaen??

Please, it was ONE post, by me and I was pointing out the obvious.

Yeah I suppose that if you're a big GB fan who wanted something closer to the original you would be disappointed with this. I for one don't mind it since it's new characters but if I was being honest I would rather have a few dudes in the team.

I agree. I have no problem with a GB reboot or sequel, and I have no problem with lady Ghostbusters. I just don't think the director is anywhere near the same league as Ivan Reitman, and his sense of humor doesn't fit the tone of the Ghostbusters.

The original was filled with subtle, blink-and-you'll-miss-it humor. Obviously that group was great at subtle AND big humor, but they didn't shove any of it down your throat. Yes, Egon was a nerd, but Kate McKinnon's character looks like they're trying WAY TOO HARD to let the audience know that she's a nerdy/whacky character.

I thought Bridesmaids was great, but it's because Feig and McCarthey's schtick was new. But after that, The Heat, Identity Theft (not Feig, I know), and SPY, it's just not funny anymore.

Melissa McCarthey + fat + loud + fall over + curse a lot + ??? = PROFIT!

I'm sure they're all capable of making a solid movie, but the track record of everyone involved (aside from Wiig who has great range and is insanely likeable) is just not as strong as the original group.

And I can't really speak to Leslie Jones because I haven't watched a full episode of SNL since she joined the cast, but all I've seen from her on SNL or from her stand-up is that she relies on "I'M LOUD AND I'M BLACK" which can be funny but shows no range in style of humor. She just seems so wildly out of place in this franchise.
