Is ghostbusters really the franchise to make a political gender commentary on? Oceans 8, yeah it works as its own logical tie in while doung its own thing but the 2016 ghostbusters was just too in your face with the political narratives behind the camera, not too mention the director attacking the fanbase

I understand Leslie Jones' being angry, but sometimes you just have to not share that anger on social media because all you are doing is feeding the whole toxic angry beast and making it worse.

I'm sure all the people working on the 2016 film didn't set out to make a bad film and probably had noble intentions. So to Jones, this movie feels like a slap in the face and like, "Well you guys suck so we are throwing you away."

I can understand that, but sometimes you just have to move on. Just say you liked your movie and thank the fans who liked your cast and film. Focus on that.

Part of me wonders if they were promised sequels behind the scenes and then this happened.

That's just how it is in Hollywood. Everyone lies and talks out of both sides of their mouth. They over-promise things. I mean a few years ago, the talk was of multiple spinoffs and a GHOSTBUSTERS EXPANDED UNIVERSE. The 2016 movie pretty much killed all of that.

Like some years back, the plan for The Dark Tower was to have a multi-film franchise that would include TV miniseries with the same actors. It was very ambitious.

This is what we ultimately ended up with. There was talk of a new TV series. We haven't heard much of that lately.

To be fair, with how hard they are swinging toward Ghostbusters 3 and nostalgia, yeah, it is kind of insulting. I mean, the kids aren't the main focus of what they are announcing. Old cast, old props, old music, hell, event he son of the original director. I mean, the kids are a footnote in any article I have seen about the announcement.

Well, I mean aren't the kids technically a rumor at this point?

I'm sure once that's solidified and the new actors are announced, they'll have a lot of attention on them. To me it already feels like the roles of the original characters are going to be a bit mystery boxed here. My hunch is what we get will be a combination of Ghostbusters 3 and something that plants the seeds for the future of the franchise. I think something like that could be a lot of fun.

I can totally see how this would sting for Leslie, and I feel for her. But, I mean what else are they supposed to do? The alternatives here are try to force a sequel to a financially unsuccessful film or just do nothing with the franchise. Yeah, there's a third option of trying to interdimensionally multi-verse it, but really even if they did that you'd probably still get plenty of hot takes about how it's insulting to the female cast that they're now no longer the stars. It's a minefield no matter what you do. And honestly, What if Reitman would prefer to tell a smaller story than some huge ensemble multi-verse extravaganza? There are perfectly understandable reasons, both from a filmmaking and business perspective, for going this route. It's cleaner, and Aykroyd has been trying to get this project off the ground for literally decades.

Again, it sucks that there is a narrative to spin here if you want to find one, but there are harsh realities to the film industry. If your movie is aiming to relaunch a franchise and goes over budget and doesn't make money, it's a problem. Just look at Superman Returns.

But really, how much worse can it get for her on social media than it was last time.

I'm sure the hate is flowing again as twitter is full of jerks pushing extremist attitudes. Have no idea why she wants this to happen again. There was a professional way to say her opinion without baiting haters. She could have also done a little bit of research on what is being rumored and officially said.

Most headlines said this film will be casting teens both female and male in lead roles. Even saying it would be 2 and 2. Plus quotes from Reitman saying "I have so much respect for what Paul created with those brilliant actresses, and would love to see more stories from them. However, this new movie will follow the trajectory of the original film,”

Now she's taking that means all men and calling this a trump situation. Wrong way to go. Google Ghostbusters and she's all the talk now. Not helping the situation and the studio is likely not happy.

It was going to happen no matter what, but it's unfortunate that there's already gasoline being thrown on the fire from people directly involved with the franchise.

Ultimately there will be a lot of noise, but the movie will live or die based on its quality. That is what happened last time around.

There is every chance this movie disappoints, just like there is always that chance when you resurrect a beloved property. But hey, I'm hoping for the best. Just like I was last time around.

don't ****ing jinx it

The bigger the expectations, the bigger the potential disappointment. This is the long awaited 3rd film in the original Ghostbusters canon, there's a lot on the line. Let's hope they get this right.

I know Leslie Jones got a lot of hate from the last film but she went off without facts, for starters does the fact the all female Ghosbusters film failed mean there can never be an all male team Ghosbusters again? That in itself is ludicrous, but on top of that the film is going to have 2 and 2 from the genders, so she's ranting about something that isn't even happening. The fact is the bile spewed at those involved with the previous Ghosbusters film was well out of order, however the failure of the film was down to the lack of quality by general consensus, not because the team was all female.

For the moment it seems a bit that way. A good movie is all they need though. Easier said then done but hoping they get this one right while bringing in a new fanbase.

Can't get too excited about anything Ghostbusters without a trailer. I would actually prefer none of the original cast to be a part of it, but I know I'm probably in the minority on that one.

And as for Leslie Jones she is behaving like a child and needs to grow up.

Yeah, I agree with your points as well. I'd also add, ask Andrew Garfield, and his Spiderman films did make money.

I mean, the bottom line is , this is showbiz , and its brutal. Its ultimately not about what's fair or right.

Money and potential money carries alot more weight than the feelings of creators, directors, and actors. That's just how it is.

I like Leslie Jones alot ,but ultimately if i'm in a Sony board room, I would have made the same call and gone with Jason Reitman 's GB 3 than make a sequel to GB 2016.

I think the **** she has taken, Leslie Jones in particular, she is free to be mad. Especially since the announcements are kind of disrespectful. The return of the "real" Ghostbusters. After having to deal with the worst racists and misogynists online, only to be tossed under the bus in such a fashion, yeah, be pissed.

Spider-man wasn't so passive aggressive towards its previous incarnation.

Is Bill Murray even going to return for this? I have a hard time believing he is.

He made a dumb cameo in the reboot. If he likes Jason Reitman enough, I’m sure he’d at least make a quick appearance as a ghost like he always wanted.

Now Rick Moranis! That’ll be the hard one to get.

As dumb as the "no wimminz in mai Ghostyb00sterz!" minority was, she's gotta understand that the movie pretty much bombed with wider audiences too. And wasn't exactly some critical darling.

Complaining about "we dint count" (social media spelling, yaaay, act your age lady) is pretty funny too. Isn't that what you basically did to the original guys?

Blahh.

Oh well, the positive is you'd probably figure under Reitman Jr at least one of the new team's going to be female. Hopefully two. That'll help dispel some of this "Trump's America doesn't like vaginas!" train of outrage. Nobody would have cared about the all-female team if the humor was on-point with the original movies and it wasn't a reboot but rather a continuation. But that's inconvenient to the narrative they want to make of this, I guess.
