I also like Ghostbusters 2.

As for Afterlife, I don't think nostalgia is the movie's problem. My main issues with the movie had more to do with that the script raises a lot of questions that are not really answered and the routine sequel baiting.

There are also some plot issues I found a bit problematic but it comes down to personal prefererence.

I must've missed that you saw it. Are you overall positive, negative or mixed?

I am consciously staying away from reading any full reviews until I've seen the movie, just to stay as spoiler and expectations-free as possible, but I'll give it a full read once I do. I see that you gave it an 8 though, nice! I'm excited to finally see this thing on Saturday.

It's a spoiler-free review ;)

I think this is a movie I am going to catch it on blu ray. Prioritizing Spider-Man over this for baby sitting selection.

I love the original Ghostbusters. Never been a fan of Ghostbusters II. That is a prime example of the classic same exact movie only worse type sequel. The few funny bits in the movie don't save it. It is as lazy a sequel as you will see.

As for the 2016 film, never seen the entire film. I have watched parts of it, but I have not enjoyed the various parts I have watched enough to watch the entire movie. The thing about improv movies is they can be gold, like Talladega Nights is for me, or they can be just unbearable when the comedy isn't working. So, I don't have a true opinion on it being good or bad. Would be unfair of me to call it a bad movie when I haven't seen the whole thing. It is just a movie I haven't had interest watching because what parts I have seen didn't make me want to watch the rest. Maybe I will sit down and watch it one day, buy probably not anytime soon.

I am excited for this movie. I like Jason Reitman a lot. I would be seeing it day one if I didn't have to pick my spots. But I am going to buy it regardless.

I agree with your choice. I’m personally planning to see this in the theater but if I had to choose between this or Spider-Man, then Spider-Man wins…no contest. Lol

Posted these before watching them, just going to say they have mild spoilers!

Ugh I love Bill Murray so much. I'm gonna hold off watching this till after I've seen the movie at the weekend. Thanks for the heads up about spoilers. I see Bill Murray and I tend to click immediately.

Its good to see them together. Aykroyd didn't look well after that dancing. I was a bit concerned when he was holding his chest.

Edit: I was talking about this interview:

I am trying so hard to avoid spoilers. I am actually more excited for this than I am Spider-Man, simply because I have no faith that Far From Home will be better than Spider-Verse, which is where my expectations are...because I am excited for it, but it can't live up to its own hype. I'm calling that NOW.

I haven't seen a Ghostbusters film that I liked since my departed mother took me back in 89. NO WAY will I miss this movie. I've seen every Spider-man film made over the last 20 years...and only one Ghostbusters film, which sucked poop through a straw. I want a good Ghostbusters movie.

Well, reviews are not off to a great start.

The movie veers from playing with past mythology to full-on aping it, apparently having learned all the worst fan-service lessons from "Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker."

Despite my issues with what I've seen, I'm not entirely sure the movie deserves THAT comparison.

My go-to for reviews on this is check their 2016 review. The ones who didn’t seem to have a problem with “aping scenes” in that suddenly have a problem now? Lol

Review: Steady new 'Ghostbusters' proves a worthy reboot

There definitely seems to be a divide with those top critics. It seems that those who loved the 2016 version, hate this and vice versa. I’d love to see a reviewer who loved both or hated both.

Damn, I'm actually more curious now.

Jeremy Jahns' reviews have been off the mark for me for a while for me to be fair. His review of Malignant just came off like a guy who is sick of doing movie reviews and watched the movie in a bad mood.

Roxy Striar also not a fan, takes forever for something to happen, too serious but the last 7 minutes are awesome.

Semi-serious question: do we really need movie critics nowadays?

No critic review or aggregate will ever decide whether I like a film, but I like and value film criticism too. As far as individual critics go, I anxiously anticipate Kermode's review of this. He's probably the one I respect most.

Yes. However, we need actual film critics. We can do without bloggers/fans who pretend they are critics along with the entire Rotten Tomatoes system (aka the McDonaldization of Film Criticism).
I like this answer.

I do find the extremes of the RT aggregate to be quite helpful. And if you know your taste, reviews can help you decide if it is to your taste or not.

The top critics section does exist.
