Ghostbusters II Appreciation

I think it's feasible Slimer became more friendly to them overtime and hung around when he grew to like them.

Further relating to GB2, anyone ever read the comic book adaptation? I have all three issues, it was drawn in the style of the RGB cartoon. It follows the movie pretty closely with some small differences, namely the final confrontation with Vigo. It's worth tracking down if you can find all three issues.

I always thought the one scene when the art guy turned into a ghost with the baby carriage and kidnapped Oscar. I thought that was an incredibly dark moment in the film. It was well done. And then all hell broke loose.

Definitely. It's still quite unnerving to watch.

I'm still surprised that we haven't gotten an announcement about anniversary Blu-ray releases for either film, disappointing Sony hasn't taken advantage of that :/ Unless they have something special in mind for both later this year, maybe around Halloween-time possibly?

Next Sunday is the 30th anniversary of the original and the 16th is GB2's 25th. Anyone plan to watch them on the dates? I definitely will.

News broke today that GB2 is finally hitting Blu-ray, can't wait. It'll be in both a special set with the first one as well as a digipack. I'll probably get the latter. Special features are somewhat scant but at least it's an improvement over past editions. Very excited to have both in HD.

i already have the first Ghostbusters film on blu-ray but i will definitely double dip to buy the collector's package that comes with Slimer

also, they are finally going to release all those deleted scenes for GB2 it seems

Ghostbusters 2 is one of those movies I never knew was "hated" (Return of the Jedi, Temple of Doom) until I found the internet.

No, it's not as good as the first, but it is damn good. I never understood the complaint that it's just not comedic. WUUUUUT? It's funny as hell. The wit is a little less sharp this time, but it's still there and the report between the characters is just as entertaining.

I also have to agree that this movie is scarier than the first film. Which is one thing I think it genuinely has over it's predecessor. I adore the first film and it's one of my favorites ever, but I never once found it scary. GB 2 has many moments that are downright creepy-the whole subway scene, ghost nanny, high beam eyes, Vigo himself, the slime in the tub...all pretty well executed scares.

The issue I hear brought up about it that I can understand is that structurally, the movie is identical to the first...but the overall plot of GB 2 is actually really unique and weird. I don't think it's critics appreciate how weird the plot actually is.

While the plot is undeniably quite similar to the first movie, it's still unique and different enough from the first movie. I still think the mood slime concept was something very creative that helped set it apart from the original.

I must admit I did kind of like the slime aspect. Having it cause emotional mood swings due to all the negative vibe in NY.

I always found it very creative and it's still pretty unique. I like how the slime absorbed all of the negativity of the city and manifested as something physical and dangerous.

I absolutely love, love, love Ghostbusters II. People take "Ghostbusters I" way too seriously, sometimes it's creepy. The first movie was supposed to be a sci-fi comedy.

As a kid I loved the II much more than I, not that I didnt like the first, god no. But I loved GII more, always liked the villain and the climax with the statue of liberty and the whole idea of the goo. But when I rewatched the two as an adult, well, its definitely the other way around for me, but I like both

I never found both films scary to be honest. Even as a kid. The only moment I found in either film that was particularly creepy was when Vigo possessed Ray towards the end. Didn't see that coming even though it was a brief moment.

Hopefully the Bluray will have all the deleted scenes unlike GB1, which was still missing quite a few. Particularly from GB2 the deleted Tully/Slimer confrontation. I remember reading a Starlog interview with Moranis talking about that scene. Sounded like an exciting scene from his perspective. And would explain why there's so much tension between him and Slimer in the final cut. Also I heard a lot of the deleted scenes were edited in the montage.

Ghostbusters and Back to the Future are the rare films that can blend different genres and still keep a very broad audience. Causual people can like them, and geeks too due to the awesome world building both franchises have.

I think only Edgar Wright films these days have that sort of appeal.

I see what you mean but I don't think Edgar Wright films attract a "broad" audience.

but he's able to attract different types of fans of his films thought his authenticity of genre mixing. Shaun of the Dead for example has the same type of vibe that Ghostbusters/Back to the Future has where it's not limited to a comedy with horror/fantasy/sci-fi window dressing. The fantastical parts are genuinely well done and are blended into the narratives.

Unlike Hot Tub Time Machine. Sure it has SCI-FI in it, but it's a comedy first.

I hope the scenes are in good condition too, a lot of the time deleted scenes (especially from older films) tend to look quite rough.

I want great features on 2 deleted scenes, behind the scenes. But most of all I want a commentary
