Ghostbusters II Appreciation

are you talking about this logo?

Yeah, that logo makes sense from a promotional perspective, but for the final film it's very odd to see them wearing it.

They should've used the new uniforms (I know the original uniforms are too iconic, but still) and kept the original logo when they were back in business. It's a shame we never got an action scene with them in those uniforms in the final film. The jewelry store sequence in the montage was edited to a few seconds so I didn't count that moment. Would've love to seen them in the new uniforms during the climax. Heck the GB2 poster even shows them in their new uniforms with the sequel logo in the background.

I wonder if there's additional deleted scenes of them in the charcoal uniforms?

I guess when you look at it as the logo representing victory over the ghosts and a victorious return to business it makes more sense.

Interesting to see the slime look green there like it did in a lot of the promotional materials, but I think the pink worked better for the final film. I think the pink slime looks kind of blood-like in some scenes, which makes it look more sinister.

Full German dub is on youtube! :awesome:

Might not be the best idea to post a full-length movie on here, even if it's dubbed over

Valid point. Type Ghostbuster 2 into youtube people and watch it in all its German glory!

Not quite sure. Looks like probably a ghost that didn't make it into the final cut of the film.

One criticism of the movie I don't get is the lack of Elmer Bernstein's score. The score in the first film is great but I always felt it would've been out of place in GB2. I think the GB2 score is good in it's own right and works very well for the movie, and likewise I think it would've been out of place in the first movie. Both scores fit their respective movies very well, I think.

I always thought it was neat how the Scoleri Brothers were a bit more rooted in reality with them being murderers who got the chair. Think it gave the film a bit of an edge with some of the ghosts having a more realistic history, same with Vigo who has numerous similarities with Vlad Tepes.

That's true they are pretty much the only ghosts besides Vigo which we are told who they were before death.

I always thought a comic prequel that detailed their lives would've been cool to have seen. Especially all about Vigo's life before his soul entered the painting.

I know Bill Murray is quite outspoken about the script having not been closer to the original concept, how might the film have been had they used that? I personally think GB2 changed for the better from the original concept for it from what's been revealed about it.

What was the original concept?

Also, the ghosts in those concept arts would've really made GBII much scarier than GBI, I think. The one with the mane could've been Vigo's second in command instead of Janosch.

My biggest problem with GBII is how similar it is to GBI. From the heroes being broke at the beginning to Venkman's constant wooing of Dana to the slimy government official minor villain who thinks they are frauds to the ghost catching montage to the giant Godzilla parody to them being imprisoned right before the climax, it hits a lot of the same beats as the first one.

It is good, but it prevents it from being particularly special or memorable compared to the original. I can see where those who saw the second one first might like it more because of it (and the first one less), but in my case I had been watching the original since it had come out.

IIRC it had something to do with an underground cavern of gnome-like creatures and Venkman dying and becoming a ghost, something to that effect. It seems the underground concept probably evolved into the river of slime.

Sounds pretty stupid and I hate the idea of killing Venkman. I can't imagine I would prefer that film over the one we actually got.

Me, neither. I'm glad the script underwent some considerable changes if that was to be the original GB2. I think even if it had been made Murray would still dislike the film because it seems he has an instant dislike for sequels and he's known for being quite difficult and picky to work with.

I think fans would probably still dislike it as well and complain it was too different from the original, it was probably doomed no matter how it turned out. A common criticism of it is that it's too much like the original, but I think even if it'd been totally different it'd still be disliked because it's in the shadow of the original. A victim of "damned if you do, damned if you don't."
