To heck with Stephen Sommers, get MICHAEL MOORE to direct G.I. JOE!
NOTE: Talking about the nature of how Hollywood is allowing itself to be pushed over by foreigners in general- not specific G.I Joe related. And the disgusting and revolting responses I heard from foreigners regarding an American flag being in an American City in Spider-Man 3. We gave them, "all that stuff" and in return that's what they do! Continue *****ing and groaning until we give in. As said before Supes should look straight at the screen and say "American Way" in the sequel as it should have been and IS. This isn't a reflection on G.I. Joe as much as it is an analysis of some hypocrite foreigners who can't stand the sight of an American flag because for some reason they hate us and can't shut up about how much they hate us.
Here's some Norwegian waffles for you, my friend!By and large, the issue isn't the presence of the United States but rather the absence of everyone else. To make G.I. Joe a specifically American team combating the global threat of Cobra would give the impression that the only (competent) team out there fighting terrorism are Americans. This would be a huge insult and disservice to the thousands of non-Americans out there fighting against terrorism, many of whom have contributed equally if not more to the cause.
Additionally, as I keep saying, please explain how it is that international cooperation reduces the patriotic value of the characters (specifically the American ones)? And how does posing in front of an American flag make anyone more patriotic than those who don't? Alone, and without context, the presence of the American flag alone does not symbolize patriotism in any form.
I have my doubts.I'M NOT ASKING, I'M TELLING... I CAN PRODUCE THE BEST G.I. JOE STORY FOR THE BIG SCREEN.![]()
I have my doubts.
But you are the master in producing some of the absolute worst posts I have seen on any forum on the internet. I will give you that![]()
Just call the movie Action Force instead of GI JOE.
Totally agreed, and from what I have read about what they are trying to do with this movie the soul will be completely void. The biggest problem with Hollywood today is that so many films are lacking. Not stars, budget, talent... THEY LACK HEART!!! THEY DON'T HAVE AVY SOUL!!!
Now consider that these days a movie full of Yankee flag waving BS is going to turn off non-US viewers. So if they stayed totally true to the RAH cartoon concept they run the risk of loosing hundreds of millions in box office. Which they are NOT going to do.
So are we gonna have all new characters or are some of our faves now gonna be different nationalities?????
I am so sick of this PC crap and bowing down to the hate America crowd. Blackhawk Down was an excellent movie that was purely American soldiers.
cause the name is G.I. Joe a real american hero....for once I am wishing Michael Bay was directing this one
Not to nitpick, but the name is actually just G.I. Joe. Nothing more, nothing less. 'A Real American Hero' was just one iteration of the series and while it spawned the popular characters that the movie will feature, these characters were not exclusively limited to the 'A Real American Hero' series (Spy Troops, Valor Vs Venom and Sigma 6 to name a few).
Hence, the movie doesn't really have any obligation to create a strictly all-American team.
Yes, but the point is that the characters ARE, and always have been, American so WHY change an already established and successful franchise?![]()
For the reasons mentioned time and time again?
1. To potentially better suit international tastes and audiences
2. Allows for a wider scope and scale for the movie's plot and locations
3. Acknowledges the work of all soldiers and counterterrorists, regardless of nationality
4. The characters have international backgrounds when sold overseas/internationally
5. To prevent a situation where the only prominent non-American characters are all villains
6. The established franchise has not always been (and is currently not) 100% successful, so change might be needed

I've still yet to see some legitimate proof that this will really work.
The lack of this stupid change never caused this problem for the cartoons and comics before. I'm guessing you've never actually looked at either, since both have them globe-hopping ALL THE TIME.
Already done beforehand, reinforcing this silly and unnecessary change.
Once again, I don't think people really care about this much overseas/internationally. And I doubt we are going to see some UN version of the GI JOE either.
The main villain in GI JOE was always an American. I don't get this PC view like "Oh no, the only international characters are the bad guys! XENOPHOBIA!"
That's dead wrong. Sigma Six was very successful for Hasbro. So is the 25th Anniversary series. So what are you talking about really?
More than anything this franchise has had longevity for decades. It's withstood the test of time, it's a proven successful formula for that very reason. It's not a flavor of the month.
