Gina Carano is No Longer Cara Dune... Fortunately

I’m hoping Andor delivers on it. They’ve got Stellan Skarsgard in the cast so surely they have him play an Imperial.
Oh ****, Bootstrap Bill is in it? I had no idea. Cassian is definitely not my favorite character, but maybe the show will help that, and even if it doesn't, rest can be quality Star Wars.

Such a shame Tony Gilroy wasn't able to direct due to COVID. What a wonderful, nearly seamless job he did on the reshoots. I don't think the would have done it but he was actually my choice to replace Trevorrow on TROS. I thought someone who very, very explicitly wasn't a Star Wars fan and just a really competent storyteller who clearly had a knack for the setting was the way to go.

Or even some other martial artists turned actors.

Right. Donnie Yen for example is a pretty decent actor.

Yeah, there are plenty of martial artists out there with actual talent. Look at the cast of the show Warrior. So many good fighters in that group but also charismatic leads.

Hell, the jumpkicking brats on Cobra Kai are better actors than Gina.

10 years ago she was like the hottest thing because she was a huge MMA star who made the successful crossover into movies. Everyone wanted to work with her. Why did she choose now of all times to be a crazy conservative?

Even if she truly believes all that nonsense, why not just keep it to yourself. What's more important? Posting stupid **** on Twitter about your right-wing beliefs or having a successful career and co-starring in a f'n Star Wars show.

She's a f'n moron. She has no one to blame but herself. Disney was more than lenient with her for months, but she continued this. She could've just stopped tweeting but she couldn't help herself. She has no self-awareness at all. It's astounding.

Now she's lost her gig on Star Wars and her agency.

You'd think more famous people would have their social media run by their PA or at least filtered through someone they trusted to avoid this type of ****. Or just... Avoid it entirely.
She has the same persona as Dana White. It's part of her appeal to her "fanbase".

Sort of unrelated, but Carano's actions kind of remind me of Bruce Mitchell, a long time writer for The Wrestling Torch. After the death of a very beloved wrestler, Brodie Lee, he wrote a very awful column accusing AEW and Brodie Lee's widow of hiding the circumstances of his death and alleging he died of COVID with no evidence to back that up.

This column was published a day after it was announced that Brodie Lee was dead. Brodie Lee was a beloved and respected figure in the community and people were in mourning. His column was seen as insensitive.

Bruce Mitchell was abhorrent on social media. When people complained about the column, he denied he did anything wrong and said he accused no one of lying or conspiracy. After a while, his editor took down the column and said he didn't look over it and it didn't meet editorial standards.

After that, Bruce Mitchell reposted the column on a ****ty website and said he stood by it all. After that he got fired by his editor.

He messed up badly and tripled down and refused to have any self-reflection on the matter and refused to apologize. As a result, he flushed a 30-year career down the toilet.

No one in Hollywood is going to want to work with Gina Carano now, especially after the Holocaust post. That's one of the worst possible things she could've done for her career. It's abhorrent.

Not really. If anything, Gina Carano always came off as this nice, soft-spoken and bubbly girl who could also happen to kick your ass because she was a talented martial artist.

Now, Ronda Rousey? Yeah a little moreso there.

Ugh, I didn’t even make the MMA fan base connection.

I’m sure she’ll be get an eight hour long softball interview with Joe Rogan’s dumb steroid-addled ass any day now.

(I like MMA a lot. It just has an ocean of stupidity for a culture.)

Gina Carano and James Woods join Kevin Sorbo and Dean Cain in...

God's Not Dead 4: God's Not Canceled
I... give it six months and I bet there will be a Christsploitation movie with a title relating to Jesus or God being cancelled.

I definitely think social media as a tool has rotted people's brains. I think it's helped radicalize a lot more people and cause them to dig in more on stupid thoughts. Mind you, I'm not excusing Gina Carano's behavior, but I preferred things when we didn't have Twitter.

I read that, and lost my **** over it. I recently read the account of what Lee's widow had to go through, and it was simply torture. That someone would do anything that would cause her harm at the time was evil already. Once I knew the details, it somehow made it worse.

I am right there with you man. Love the sport, hate a lot of the people and culture around it.

Twitter is culturally cancerous.

My heart broke when I saw Brodie Lee's wife respond to that column. One of the ethics of journalism is to minimize harm.

Look, if you have an opinion on wrestling during COVID pandemic, OK. But don't write a column that's badly written, full of errors, and has no evidence to back it up the day after people just lost a person like that.

I think what made Mitchell's column worse is he had no evidence to back up his claims. No journalism was actually done.
