From what we've seen so far with trailers and what not it would have to be a massive cluster**** in the rest of the movie to make it close to bad. Overall reception to every single thing they've put out has been almost totally positive and the only whining I've heard from anybody was that the body was too bulky (which makes sense when going for a bit more realistic) or that they wanted a known monster (which they couldn't do due to rights).
I honestly wonder how you make a sequel to a film like this, that doesn't either feel like a retread, or just not that special. How do you get a Empire or TDK when the first film is all about the awe and will feature monster on monster violence.
Have you seen Monsters? The concept of that big ass wall separating the monsters from the States seems very similar to the ideas Edwards was discussing when he mentioned Destroy All Monsters and the Monster Island concept. The idea of humanity trying to adjust to these new lifeforms existing in the world with them.
Pamela McClintock said:May tentpole Godzilla came on tracking Thursday with impressive strength and should stomp past $60 million in its North American debut. More bullish box-office observers believe it could clear $70 million.
The movie, hoping to finally launch a Hollywood studio franchise headlined by the giant lizard, could be a defining moment for Legendary Pictures, which spearheaded the $160 million reboot. Legendary co-financed 75 percent of Godzilla, with Warner Bros. putting up the rest of the money.
Godzilla opens in North American theaters on May 16. It makes its international assault at the same time. Box-office observers believe Godzilla will have even more strength overseas.
Yeah there's some genuinely interesting stuff that you could really sink your teeth into. The realism element behind the Kaiji seems like it could be used to pose some interesting questions.
Here's a question no one has asked: when Godzilla 2 comes to surface in development, with Legendary and WB splitting, will Legendary make it with Universal now? Or will it stay with WB as a WB franchise?
