Godzilla (2014) - Part 9

The fact that the CG could actually be mistaken for a real life maquette is a testament to how good it is.

The post above mentioning possibly seeing Godzilla face off against King Kong again just gave me goosebumps at the thought of seeing those two together with modern special effects.

Terrible idea unless you plan on drastically reducing the size of Godzilla or spot Kong about 200 extra feet.

As long as it went something like this:

Pretty much. Basically you're stuck having to bastardize one or the other to make a new film possible. I'd rather see, and I assume many others would as well, a Pacific Rim crossover than another Godzilla vs. Kong.

I'm concerned over the way this is tracking. $60m seems really low; that's only $5m more than Zilla made during its opening weekend in 1998 and that was seen as a huge disappointment. And when you consider the way ticket prices have inflated, that means that a lot LESS people would be going to see this movie.

But it may exceed expectations entirely, like Man of Steel did last year and The Avengers did the year before that. We'll see. I just don't know how you can watch the trailers and TV spots for this and NOT want to see it opening weekend.

Ugh, can we please just let Pacific Rim be its own thing? There is absolutely no reason for that kind of cross over.

Star Trek Into Darkness opened with 70 and that was a sequel to a well received film. 60 for this wouldn't be too bad.

Hmmm... yeah, I forgot about that. And at the time, that opening was seen as somewhat disappointing but it still did well over its entire run.

I'm hoping this exceeds expectations though. I want this movie to be huge (no pun intended).

There are people I know that still didn't even know this was being made. All depends on the marketing and how they do it. Something is gonna get lost in the shuffle this May there are too many things packed into this month.

People don't seem particularly excited for X-Men, and the press for that will likely be hijacked by the case against Singer, even with him dropping out of promoting the film himself.

Calm down. All I'm saying is that if we are going to speculate about franchise crossovers (that will likely never happen) that's one I wouldn't mind seeing as opposed to retreading the Kong idea.

And all I'm saying is that if we are going to speculate about franchise crossovers, both are equally bad ideas.

I kind of hate the new emphasis on crossovers. I'm not much for them in comics and it kind of sucks to see such a demand for them in film now as well.

Godzilla crossovers have been done and they're not that bad sometimes. Some are just weird though, like when they had Godzilla running around the Marvel comics universe.

^Sigh…..and you call yourself a geek. :cmad:

Agree to disagree then. Also, I call you a liar if you say you wouldn't be even little excited to see G-man throwdown with a Jaeger(s).

By 'new emphasis' do you mean random anon's spitballing silly ideas on the internet? You sound like fun. I don't read many glorified picture books but doesn't that medium sort of lend itself to crossovers moreso than film?

I used to buy the Fangoria books every now and then. I still have the ones featuring the Freddy vs Jason movies. :D

I pray to the movie gods we never see anything PR related mesh with Godzilla, I prefer Godzilla to be his own thing especially when PR turned out to be so medicore, but adding King Kong would be hard to dismiss but that's just me.

He looks so much like a bear on that cover, definitely want that mag.

I thought PR was fine. They just needed less people and more smashy.

That and a lead actor that actually had the talent of acting, the battles were fine, nothing spectacular but nothing had me amped up or excited it just fell flat for me. The whole time I watched it all I could think about is that Godzilla was a whole year away.

And now we get to see a BIG monster smashing everything on the west coast. I'd say that PR was a decent appetizer for the big G. After all if it hadn't come out first they may not have tried so hard to top it.

yeah I would call Pacific Rim decent, but nothing more Godzilla is where my heart lies, it's unfortunate cause I typically love Del Toro and did root for a new original franchise to be successful until I actually saw it.
