A 60 million opening for this is actually seen as big, it's tracking more towards 75 million though, it's gonna open big and do bank, no doubt. Buzz is huge.

yeah I would call Pacific Rim decent, but nothing more Godzilla is where my heart lies, it's unfortunate cause I typically love Del Toro and did root for a new original franchise to be successful until I actually saw it.

"Decent" films don't deserve to be successful?

Agree to disagree then. Also, I call you a liar if you say you wouldn't be even little excited to see G-man throwdown with a Jaeger(s).

By 'new emphasis' do you mean random anon's spitballing silly ideas on the internet? You sound like fun. I don't read many glorified picture books but doesn't that medium sort of lend itself to crossovers moreso than film?

No I mean every studio trying to force 'shared universes.'

Combining Alien and Predator did nothing to make either better.

In comics crossovers are far overused to the point where they just become the norm and lack impact.

Godzilla has had plenty of giant robots from his own franchise to fight, not much to be gained.

The AvP series gave us a few great games and some very interesting stories but the movies were terrible. So combining franchises for smaller endeavors can be much more fruitful than trying to go for one big one.

I believe good and great films deserve to be successful, there was a lot of good to it, but the bad outweighed the good and to me it's definitley not franchise-worthy material, but that's about PR and this is the GODZILLA thread so I best change the subject :)

Terrible idea unless you plan on drastically reducing the size of Godzilla or spot Kong about 200 extra feet.

Or do the opposite by enlarging Kong, which is what Toho did with their version.

That is funny.

I think we still et this magazine at my work. Will be on the look out

Mmm...When looking at it closely...The only robot Godzilla has ever really fought is MechaGodzilla.

You can't say Gigan, Mecha-King Ghidorah, or potentially Megalon because they are all cyborgs. Organic creatures enhanced through the means of mechanical advantages that are implemented onto their bodies in some manner or another. So technically they aren't robots.

In terms of general robots tied to the franchise, MechaGodzilla, Moguera, and Jet Jaguar are pretty much the only members of that group. That exactly plenty, especially when you remove the MechaGodzilla incarnations and just focus on the mechanical icon itself.

Has anyone actually seen this movie (test/advance screening or whatever)? I remember eagerly anticipating Pacific Rim, and that film sucked IMHO.

No need to add the "IMHO" after that statement, since it's a fact.

Nolan, I see your photo and raise you this:

I saw a new tv spot...they used the "ting!" sound like the inception horns throughout. Pretty haunting.
