Am I the only one in wishing they didn’t make them so freaking big? I get it’s Godzilla and it’s supposed to be huge. And it’s not meant to be realistic. But when I see them bigger than skyscrapers and wrestling around, I don’t see how anyone can “root” for any side considering the amount of collateral damage they cause.

Even if they were half the size they were now, it would still be impressive without seeming like they would kill thousands just by falling over.

My dude do you know how big Godzilla is in his anime film? 300 meters. 300. Look at things that are near that height and tell me the monsters in this flick are "too big".

The sizes they are in this movie are relatively modest. I have my own Godzilla design and flirt around the idea of putting him at 150 meters in height.

Great Rao... I really think I am too invested in this movie for a bunch of emotionally based reasons that go beyond simply wanting to see a kickass monster movie. I can't even say that I am some Godzilla super fan per se. Sure the Showa era films were a HUGE part of my growing up (Was born in 1976) and perhaps the single greatest gift I ever received for Christmas was when my mom and dad got me the Godzilla toy with the fist that shoots off... Still I wasn't a fan of the post 1985 films really and did not bother much with the Toho films after, while liking they were, well if not totally grounded serious dramas, that they treated the monsters with the awe and respect I projected onto the Showa films as a child. But they weren't my cup of tea overall and the ones I saw were chores to sit through.

But the in my mind the platonic ideal of Godzilla still resonates with my inner fanboy. I am of the handful that likes more than hates the 2014 film and saw that even with that film's flaws that there is oodles of potential in this Monster/Kaiju series to deliver some great entertainment. I loved Skull Island though it too had flaws (Not at the level of G '14, but still there) and am really looking forward to the rematch of the 21st Century between these two iconic film creations.

I just really don't want to come away disappointed with KOTM. As I've gotten older I have found I have made more choices to contol my fanboy impulses for the better when it comes to genre work. Here though... I REALLY want this film to work for whatever nostalgia tinged reasons and not just the monster stuff. I want it to work as a film beyond just getting to say "the SFX were great and the battles were cool."

I wanna LOVE this movie. I really don't want to come away crestfallen that it significantly underperformed in my expectations. It isn't rational but that is where I am at.

And each new image that I see makes me more hyped.

Here is to hoping this pays off and that the story and characters and themes are just as good as the images of the monsters.

Exactly how little CGI are you expecting from this movie?

Only the cityscape. The monsters will all be actual kaiju.

SO far all the word of moth praise has been good. I imagine we'll get the final trailer in the next couple of weeks and them around mid april they'll star the press junkets/talk show circuit
