Godzilla: King of the Monsters (2019) - Part 1

Apparently Charles Dance is playing the leader of a terrorist organization who does black market dealing of resources gleaned from kaiju, like I guess a more outright villainous version of Ron Perlman's character in Pacific Rim.
Dang really? I had this weird idea in my head that Dance could be playing the older version of Tom Hiddleston's character in Skull Island. Oh well.

Man, that photo of Godzilla looks :hmr:

I really like that idea. Shame it probably won't turn out that way.

Dance as an older version of Hiddleston's character would be kind of awesome, but him being a villain would completely go against the character we saw in Kong: Skull Island.

I never understood how people say the Shin Godzilla is so awesome, but call this one fat. I can guarantee this Legendary Godzilla will have no scenes where it's similar to a blood belching burned rubber chicken with Googly eyes. May only be 30 seconds... But it won't make you go "Eww".

Tywin Lannister would be the last person I would want to control a Kaiju

Charles is a helluva an actor but kinda sad he's playing a bad guy. It seems like all he's played since Tywin have been bad guys.

He's been playing villains long before he played Tywin Lannister in movies like Last Action Hero and The Golden Child.

I would buy it. We would be talking over four decades of history we didn't see. A lot could happen to an individual in that time especially given some kind of entanglement with MONARCH.

Still... That's just theorizing on my part about something that's unlikely to be in the movie anyway. Still it would really add to the connectivity between the films.

I like Shin Godzilla, the movie and the design. Is the design something that would need some work? Sure. But the only thing it would need is changing its eyes with shark eyes, which would've made it much more scarier. Beyond that, it was a great design that served that story. It was creepy, and felt like it connected to previous looks while being its own thing. Would I want that design from that point forward in other movies that isn't Shin in anyway, shape, or form? No. But its a great design, and unique. Moreso since it looks like Shin Godzilla won't get a sequel.

I mean, you're right, anything could happen. But still...I think after everything that Hiddleston's character went through in that movie he'd know not to mess around with the kaiju like that.

I agree with you about the connectivity thing but maybe not in Godzilla 2 since it's gonna be stuffed with characters and kaiju anyway. However, I wouldn't be opposed to seeing older versions of Hiddleston's and Brie Larson's characters turn up in Godzilla vs. Kong. Not in any type of action role since they'd be in their 70's but it's not out of the question considering it's a crossover movie and they're only two of six characters from Skull Island who could logically come back, along with the two younger soldiers who survived (Eazy-E and the dude from Me and Earl and the Dying Girl) and the two remaining Monarch geologists (Dr. Dre and pretty much the only other female in the movie that wasn't Larson) since they were all in their 20's-mid 30's. Of course, they'd all have to be recast but the connection would still be there.

I think the rubber suit works perfectly fine in the Toho movies. I mean yeah, the eyes were a bit wonky, but it certainly didn't ruin Shin for me.

It wasn't a rubber suit in Shin. It was mo-cap, CG, and puppets.

Rodan is that you?

You might wanna spoiler tag that 'cause it might be a legit leak.

Emphasis on might be.

He's a good guy of sorts in Alien 3 off the top of my head.

From this one dude on Twitter. It's everywhere now in the Monsterverse/Godzilla subreddits.

Taking it with a grain of salt for now, but if real, it's a good design.

It's pretty good. I'm most curious to see what Mothra will look like. Will they keep the "cute" design (for lack of a better term) or will they make it a little more badass looking?

Think it's gonna be a mix of the two.

Ghidorah's design is the one I'm most excited about. Very curious to see how they fit the dragon aesthetic into the mix.
