This has been my go to theory for some time now. Also makes the idea that Dance's character is [BLACKOUT]Tom Hiddleston[/BLACKOUT] with four decades on him intriguing.

A little under a year year out for a Digital FX heavy release? C'mon people, don't be so gullible, most of the FX shots wouldn't be completed at this point. All the action would be inserted storyboard frames, and reviews would reflect it would be patchwork at best at this point.

Why do you think FX shots have to be completed for a test screening to happen? They need to see what works and doesn't before they spend huge chunks of money finishing shots.

Godzilla has screened at least 3-4 times at this point, with the first screening (that I'm aware of) happening in April. The film being bumped to the more viable/contested May release date was in response to reaction at the first screenings.

Super early screenings happen all the time. Disney screens their giant non-Star Wars/Marvel blockbusters a year out (I saw both Cinderella and Beauty and the Beast 12 months before release). Aladdin had a screening in June with 95% rough animation.

They aren't storyboard frames, by the way. They're pre-viz. It's like watching something between a PS1 and PS2 game.

Clair de Lune is a kkrazzy great choice for trailer music. It's incredible how perfectly it blends with Avatar & A:IW. Great work from by the trailer editors too.

I’ve known Michael Dougherty for a long time, as we both run in the same film-nerd circles. I have always appreciated his love of film music, chatting with him for hours on end over the years about the scores we both love. I was thrilled for him when he landed the gig to direct “Godzilla,” because I knew what it meant to him.

When he later asked me to join the project, I was overwhelmed with excitement, and awe, grateful for the chance to join him in contributing to the legacy of our favorite monster.

We knew from the beginning that we wanted to incorporate classic [Akira] Ifukube themes, and yet I think fans will be excited to hear how they have evolved. There are some fun surprises in store. Fitting the material and Michael’s visionary film, this score is the most massive I have ever written, and I can’t wait for fans to experience it!

If the film's music is as masterfully deployed as the trailer's was then it should be a real treat.

I'm still probably not going to see this movie, but hot damn, that was in my opinion the best trailer of 2018. Was it cheating in some way to use my favorite piece of classical music? Perhaps. But come on, that arrangement and those visuals though...

All I'm saying is, that second Infinity War trailer and whatever they have in store for The Lion King can both eat their hearts out.

I'll bite... Why are you not seeing this movie if you think it looks better than some anticipated films and the biggest hit of the year, and you thought the trailer was masterful?

I never said the movie looks better than those films, just the trailers themselves. I'm just not really a fan of kaiju movies, so I'm not really interested in the substance of a two-hour film about a bunch of fairly personality-less giant monsters fighting each other (likely in the dark or weird lighting). Especially given how the 2014 Godzilla film turned out, what with the whole "cut away from the action at every turn", "You almost never see Godzilla" stuff.

Plus the companies that make trailers tend to be in some way somewhat disconnected from the film studio in question, so I'm not expecting the movie to be much like said trailer. (I'm pretty sure "Claire de Lune" isn't going to be part of the film's score.) Plus it feels like they already showed me all the money shots; I don't even care about the fights, really, I'm just perfectly satisfied with some nice, vaguely contextualized imagery put to pretty music.

If I didn't go to movies because they showed the money shots in the trailer, I wouldn't end up going to any movies at all.

Most movies give away their best scenes in the trailer, that is the point of trailers in the first place.

There wasn't a single shot of Kaiju/Titan fights in the trailer. We didn't see a single frame where there are more than 1 Titan in the trailer. So any assumption of having seen the money shots in the trailer itself is just kkrazzy talk. It's actually amazing how a lot of us are salivating at the trailer even tho it barely shows any 1v1 or team-up action. We have seen almost nothing and yet here I am (and I'm not alone), creaming my pants at the prospect of what's being implied.

Because the trailer was really well put together. The movie could still be crap but the trailerhouse did a really good job of setting a certain tone.

i wonder how many cities are going to end up being destroyed. This would likely incite political chaos in the real world. i'd be curious to see how far the redevelopment efforts in Hawaii, California and Nevada have fared with the first MUTOs and Godzilla attacks.
