Godzilla: King of the Monsters (2019) - Part 1

The Aussie movie board says the movie is 132 min long which makes it the second longest film in the series following the 98 movie....

Damn
That's s good run time for me. I always like that sort of run for big epic movies. It's enough time for good set pieces as well as dramatic and exposition scenes.

And I will keep hoping until the first reviews come in to confirm it or not, that this very solid and capable cast is not going to waste in a merely perfunctory capacity in the film but are given some decent arcs and drama. I know... That might be foolish, but since the first trailer I suspected that this movie could provide more than just grand spectacle.

This is one of the few movies coming out this year that doesn't make me want to avoid the movie theater.

I am very much looking forward to it. Looks freakin' awesome, actually.

I was expecting 150 minutes at least. This 132 minute runtime has me concerned. That's a short amount of time to deal with the plot elements indicated in the trailers and marketing. Factoring in that supposedly the film is even bigger than what the marketing has shown...I'm not overly confident they can juggle all those balls in that runtime without dropping multiple balls.

A little over 2 hours should be long enough to tell a story.. Going by normal movie standards 2 hours is a long time.. KSI was a great movie and it didn’t go that long.. The only Godzilla movie that went on longer was 98 and that felt way to long.. 2 hours should suffice to tell the story.

I really, really hope you are right. Having a good narrative with some powerful performances will just elevate the CGI spectacle/fight scenes. The characters don't have to be the main story, but I sure do hope that the script makes time for them.

I'm superhyped for this.
I really hope ghidorah is left alive. I really hate when films kill off a good villain.

I hope that pans out. Talking about it in terms of IW is pretty reassuring in terms of spectacle and drama being balanced out.

IW had spectacle ?

Hey man... You know me. I'll criticize an MCU film, hell the MCU in general where I think it deserves it. But for me, IW was and is cream of the crop in terms of those movies an pop corn entertainment films period. And stuff like the fight on Ttitan, the battle of Wakanda, the stuff with Thor? That's great spectacle to me. And instead of having a joke every five minutes undermining the proceedings the characters actually dealt with drama and the weight of the story they were in despite it all being a completely flight of fancy fantasy.

I truly would hope this Godzilla film would hit those notes in much the same manner. Have the big monster action set pieces but give the human characters compelling arcs, dialog and importance to the over all plot as well.

I hope Godzilla has better spectacle than IW, as IW did nothing for me. (I have seen IW many times too, as I have the Bluray.)

Now this....puts a smile on my face.

P.S Feng is a very good at tracking the Chinese box office and he says it can do 250+ million in China

Interesting, is Gavin Feng usually reliable? What's his track record (if any)? If this is true, then very promising indeed.

He is very reliable and his track record is spotless.

He usually shares info about marketing & advertisement for Hollywood movies in China and the Chinese box office. I don't think he has inside sources in Hollywood (or WB in this particular case) tho.

But KOTM has been screened multiple times at the Burbank lot and people with even the slightest connections inside the tinsel town will have one or two friends or associates who were present during one of those screenings. I know 3 of those guys who has seen the movie and they have all raved about it.

Yeah most of the Hollywood types have said good things...now we just need to get the GA into the the theaters

Uh, yes? It's pretty much obvious why.

Ah, so this is just an incredibly biased opinion where in your first post above you spoke as if your opinion was unadulterated fact when it's actually just your dislike of the movie.
