Godzilla: King of the Monsters (2019) - Part 1

i dont like the trailer 3 trend nowdays because it high ups the marketing budget even more and more and it can hurt the movie at the end because it need to make even more money at the boxoffice , and if trailer 1 or 2 or tv spot nr 1 -20 didn't convince the people trailer 3 won't do it too

Just a reminder people... This happened.

With the amount of viewers GoT is pulling in, this is an excellent idea. I do hope we see snippets of the footage shown at CinemaCon.

Its pure genius.

11.9 million watched the Season 8 premiere live and 17.4 million across all platforms. If you want people too see your trailer...this would be the place to do this

I do hope there is a global scale to the events in KoTM.

The destruction & story was mostly confined to USA & Japan in Godzilla (2014) & Kong: Skull Island featured the Pacific. Hopefully KoTM takes a truly global feel, which I think it will do as part of its overall message.

Hopefully it is attached to endgame too that would be ridiculous exposure in the span of a week!

Apparently IMAX is showing the footage again this weekend with La Coruna showings

It's not going to do ENDGAME numbers but... If this film is REALLY good I think it will be a big hit due to work of mouth. Giant monster movies have yet to REALLY resonate with the audience despite there being quite a few mad the last ten years. Thing is, even the profitable ones were mostly in one ear and out the other. None have struck (And I swear the first one here to say "But RAMPAGE.." get's slapped with a wet noodle so hard...) a chord with the wider pop culture. I loved SKULL ISLAND but the view among the audience in general I think was "That was better than I thought it would be" and not "That was great!". It was a pleasant surprise not a runaway block buster. Pacific Rim had ALL this ****ing hype and in the end it was pretty divisive. And... I think it deserved it. It had like three different tones all jutting up against one another and, frankly, I love GDT but PR suffered from an all around smugness that he thought things like IMPORTANT CHARACTER BACK STORIES could be relegated to Blu Ray extras... That's just so stupid it actually made me angry. It's sequel simply faded into obscurity. This film I think has a good shot of being actually good, profitable and more, can show how these type of films can resonate with the audience and build an fanbase that wants more.

Umm, based on Pacific Rim's opening numbers, it had no hype. Fanboy excitement is not hype.

And not every movie has to hit a billion to be successful. It is okay for these films to stay in the $500-600 million range for success. Like horror, kaiju films are a relatively niche audience. And that is okay. Other people don't have to like what you like, which is the basic gist of your rant.

I think you are misreading a lot of both my tone and intention with what I posted there. Fair enough.

To clarify, I am more than aware that others don't have to like what I like. My point was that, and this is based on "gut" so take it for what that's worth (which is nothing, I know) but compared to the previous monster films, even the ones that were profitable, I think this film has a shot to be memorable and lay the groundwork for getting more of these films made, and I'm not just referring to this build up to KvG. I think that, as I suspect, this giving both great spectacle and a good role in the story for the actors to play to, that we could see it do very well. As I stated at the beginning of my last post, no... It's not doing ENDGAME type numbers. It's not probably even going to do $1 billion. But I do think it's possible to do more than just a solid $500-600 million if it turns out to be so good the word of mouth allows it to hit above it's weight class as it were.

As for PR... I was referring to it's hype among the fanboy set. But that hype was centered around the thought it was going to be a big crossover hit which resonated with the wider audience. Upon release it turned out to be divisive even among the fanboy set though. I'm firmly in the camp that was really disappointed in it as a whole. It does have two spectacular battles but... If gives me almost nothing else, which is a shame because it has tons of potential all around, in setting, in set pieces, in the characters... But again... tones that jut up against one another and don't gel. It wants to be wacky, it wants to be serious, it wants to be satire... It just fails for me.

That said... I at least give it credit. It was going for something other than JUST the mindless action of monster fights. Which, even then, if done right can work as entertainment. I think with KONG SKULL ISLAND, a few flaws here and there, it worked. Where as with RAMPAGE... It was just cliche'd nonsense. In any case, I am hoping that this movie balances out all the problems most of these other monster films of recent vintage have had. That includes G'14. And I suspect that if it's really good it will do more than just solid numbers.

Finally... You know me from the Politics section enough... When I'm on a "rant", it won't a simply analysis like my original post here. :o
