Godzilla: King of the Monsters (2019) - Part 1

What is weird is some reviews say there still wasn't enough of that. some say there's enough some say there's this, or that. For example Campea today (Who says overall he didn't like it) said a high % of the movie was the human stuff. which he hated and then 5 minutes of monster fights then back to long scenes of exposition etc...
Well it is a 2:10 min movie. They could have more monster fighting and it still feel stretched.

The actual movie did not deliver on the promise of that concept trailer. But I still enjoyed it.

The first official teaser trailer was amazing

then the official trailer was also amazing

I think if it wasn't for the bait and switch with certain shots and actually show godzilla fighting the other monsters I think peoples expectations would have been better tempered.

Well I just wanted a good time and that’s mostly what I got. Definitely a lot of issues, my biggest complaint being it’s not nearly as well-shot as the trailers led me to believe. Sure there’s a lot of cool shots, but there’s a lot of murky ugliness too, and VFX-wise, Ghidorah in particular just didn’t look good at all at times. And yeah, I won’t bother tearing apart the human characters, as we all knew that would be a thing.

Still, if given the choice between this or the 2014 movie to watch on TV, I would go with this one most of the time I think. And it did get me hyped for Godzilla vs. Kong. But they better team up in the end, though.
I’m sad enough over Mothra as is! :( :( :(

I suspect most Toho fans will enjoy this one much more than the last one.

So the Battle of Winterfell, but with a worse director? This is what I feared.

Hoping for a psychedelic club scene like Godzilla vs the smog monster lmao

Just saw it in IMAX. 80 foot screen. I thought it was at least 7/10 but as high as 8/10...I’m leaning towards 8.

Yes there is a post credits scene so stay for that.

EXTREME SPOILERS AHEAD:

I hate that they killed Mothra. I hate that Mothra Gojira and Rodan didn’t form the Avengers Of Monsters and take down King Ghidorah like in the original. Would have been mind blowing if they had Rodan pick up Godzilla as he is using his atomic breath and have him have a dogfight (battle in the air) with Ghidorah. I like that Mothra used his silk shot to tangle up his heads but would have been even better if Godzilla quickly followed up with an uppercut/attack seamlessly. Again, I hate that Rodan was sort of a villain here and was fighting Mothra. Was fully expecting Rodan to come to his senses and side with Mothra and Godzilla but oh well. Overall an excellent film. I almost didn’t realize Gareth Edwards wasn’t directing. Rodan’s scenes were extremely well done no pun intended. Looking forward to Godzilla vs Kong!

What’s the post credits, just curious if it is what’s been leaked. Glad you had a good time man.

I dunno to me so far it sounds exactly like what I thought we’d be getting and basically what I wanna see. But that’s me.

Broseph, in the multiple years you've been here, I don't think I've seen you once say that you were disappointed in a movie, or that it didn't sound like "what I want to see". Lol There's gotta be SOME standard that some movie hasn't met! :P

As far as this movie, I agree. Just want to see monsters fight

As someone who isn't overly fond of Game of thrones, (only watched the first few seasons, and season 8 with my girlfriend) that episode was one of the most boring non engaging forms of media I have ever witnessed. That hour and a half I was getting anxious because of how boring it was. nothing happens in the first 10 minutes of that episode. I was absolutely mind boggled that that is how the episode was handled. I'd be shocked if this movie is worse than that. That was genuinely the worst most boring piece of media I have ever seen, and it killed any desire I ever had to give that show a chance.

Some spoilers for stuff earlier in the movie are featured, so, spoilers beware. ^^'

Charles Dance's character speaks with some mexican workers who've recovered the Ghidorah head Godzilla severed in his second confrontation with King Ghidorah, and given that the movie states Dance's character has been dealing with trafficking of Titan DNA, he probably plans to use it for his endgame, whatever that may be. Now, at first I thought it could be a likely tease of Mecha-King Ghidorah showing up in GvK, but having thought more on it, it could either mean: he uses DNA tissue from every Titan part he's obtained to create a Frankenstein-esque kaiju (which would be freaking awesome), or they're possibly tying the Ghidorah head into a likely Destoroyah origin. They did introduce the Oxygen Destroyer in the movie.

I just got back from the film and can confirm this. The human storyline is very much in line with the type you see in the Toho films, which is expositional nonsense and cringy melodrama. That's fine as long as the creature stuff is great. Here though, they for some reason kept cutting back to the humans when it showed the monsters clashing. Also, I really appreciated the way Gareth Edwards shot the first one now that I've seen this one. The monsters don't feel as epic or gigantic and I have to blame the directing for that one. Overall, it's a bit of a disappointment.

In the theaters now, but a different feeling then when I saw avengers. I’m actually excited and anticipating this one!! Hopefully this is great!

I am curious about that, because while the action looks fun in the trailers, some of it did feel like it was oddly not properly scaled. Like there are "cities" but not really.

So they cutaway a lot, like they are trying to save money? That was one of the things that really got on my nerves with the first one.

Oh there’s plenty trust me. Same goes for tv shows. You obviously didn’t see me ranting on the garbage final season of GOT :funny: Wanna discuss we can discuss plenty that I haven’t felt were up to standard.
