Godzilla: King of the Monsters (2019) - Part 1

I also have Godzilla vs. Biollante it sticks out because I guess a different company put it out.

Anyone here see Godzilla: Planet of the Monsters on Netflix? That's the 1st of the anime Godzilla trilogy. I just saw it but wasn't the biggest fan. I dug everything about Godzilla in it and also the basic premise, but the problem was the humans. Especially the lead character. I have no problem with there not being too much Godzilla but this character's constant whining really got on my nerves.

Yeah, that one was put out by a much smaller company that does a lot of Asylum like movies. It's odd that they randomly had one of the more sought after Godzilla films for a time, LOL

I was honestly let down by that whole anime trilogy. The characters are not interesting nor serviceable in any way, and there are way. Too. Many. Exposition scenes that go on and on.

They prioritized the humans over the kaijus to such an astonishingly extreme degree.

Godzilla vs Megalon and destroy all monsters seemed to have been released by different companies too.

Those Netflix animated movies were horrible IMO. I still haven't seen the third one, because I was already burned enough by the first two movies, and honestly I just don't think I'm going to be able to sit thorough any of it anymore. So much talking in those movies and not nearly enough monster battles. Also, I found none of the characters the least bit likable. Those movies were such a waste of the anime format that's its not even funny.

Yep but I also think they're going to be in the Criterion set should that come to fruition. I have their release for Gojira, and with how amazing that set is I cannot wait to see what they do for the other films. I am hoping we get the Japanese and America cuts included for all of them.

I have to watch the Anime films, still.

I am a Heisei era fan mainly, and I am happy to have all of them. Return of Godzilla is one of my favorite films in the series, but I am probably happiest I have Godzilla vs Biollante not so much due to its quality (I actually like Return of Godzilla more), but more so due to how insanely rare that movie is at this point. That movie always goes OOP quickly, so I am glad I got the Blu Ray when I did last time.

Personally I love G V Bio, it's in my top 5 if not a top 2. I just find the whole plot around the humans very interesting and it's one of the few godzilla films where it feels like the human plot actually has some sense of thought put into even if it does get bonkers at times. I also put 1985 in there as well and if G V Bio isn't in my top 2 then 85 is, they are both great pieces of godzilla cinema.

i may not bother with the 2nd and 3rd then. I really wanted the humans to die there. I just ask that the humans not annoy me in a Godzilla movie. If the G Man isn't going to be in it much, then i rather the humans be bland than annoying.

Has anyone seen the Mothra trilogy from the 90s and if so, are they any good?

You know, I bought the blu ray set that had all 3, but I have yet to sit down and watch them. Bought them for my Kaiju collection. I've seen the original Mothra film, but never the Heisei era ones. I really should do that

Personally will still be seeing this, enjoyed plenty of movies in the past with RT ratings in the 40’s. Some I still watch regularly years later.

Honestly, the only tomato ratings that make me reconsider my interest in a movie are the extremes. The 90s and the 20's and below. The 30-80 range are will not likely change my opinion on going to see a movie.

I'm honestly still surprised that these films are trying to push Godzilla as "the good guy" so much. I know that was a big thing back in the olden days when Japan was cranking out these movies constantly and the plotlines were goofy as hell (I remember at least one where humans actually sent Godzilla to another planet to battle aliens or something), but I wasn't sure that they'd want to embrace Big G's silly roots like that in a modern film.

No, I'm not even criticizing them for it I'm just saying I'm a bit surprised they went this route. It just seems like a difficult thing to pull off since a creature the size of Godzilla would definitely kill people inadvertently if he was battling another monster of equal size in a populated area.
