Sources tell Variety that Watanabe is the only original cast member likely to return for the second installment.

Hmm... will he get a sweet eyepatch this time around? ;)

No plot yet for G2? There should be a basic storyline idea by this point. don't rush things at the last minute.

The areas of the attacks in the first film should still be rebuilding, especially in the urban regions. Realistically, it would take years.

Or maybe there is a plotline to King Of The Monsters. We just haven't been informed yet.

Or if Mothra, ROdan and King Ghirdorah are in it...its just a remake of Ghridorah the three headed monster

100% sure at the very least one of those three is in the sequel.

something I'm wondering about--

Godzilla "returns" to the ocean.

If this isn't a one-shot appearance, where could Rodan, Ghidorah or Mothra, all flying creatures, possibly return to that sufficiently hides them?

I haven't seen Skull island yet, but I'm guessing something on the island makes the monsters grow, radiation or something similar. Could skull island be the future monster island?

Interesting...

I wonder what her character type will be in this. Nevertheless, glad to see her on board.

That makes no sense. In Godzilla, the monsters were established as these prehistoric monsters that have been around for millions of years. Godzilla was like a prehistoric alpha predator who showed up to hunt his natural prey.

Yeah, the film didn't ever hint at the creatures being the way they are due to radiation...its just the nature of their respective species. Hell, like you said, even Godzilla is meant to be a prehistoric monster and not necessarily a man-made creation via nuclear warfare. I think it works better that way, tbh. Helps to establish a more mythic atmosphere around the creatures.

I can understand the reasoning but part of me still wants ghidora to be from space lol

Ghidorah could still be extraterrestrial. The cave paintings don't exactly confirm he's from Earth (at least, not yet).

I thought I was the only one in favor of wanting some of the monsters to come from space. I think we may see this in the MonsterVerse based on Randa's conversation with the Senator at the beginning of the film & the little joke about the scientists hunting for extraterrestrial life.

i know the idea of ghidorah coming from space brings a whole heap of baggage such as the alien invasions. but i kinda like my monsters unique. just play it up as a prophecy of a coming meteor or something

They're probably trying to play it a little more grounded by having them all just be prehistoric creatures or some mutations of science gone wrong.

On a somewhat different note, if they decide to keep in that direction, it makes me wonder how they'd handle a character like SpaceGodzilla. Even if they make changes as to how he's created, I'd love to see SpaceGodzilla appear in the MonsterVerse at some point. Would be interesting to see how Legendary could tweak and update his design.

Ghidorah should definitely still come from space. I think they even alluded to it a bit in Kong Skull Island
during the senator space program convo

^ That's the same thing I was thinking/saying.

dont think they'll ever hit that character they already have the main 4 everyone knows. possibly Anguirus but personally we need another bad guy especially is they're gonna go the route of a fight then team up in vs kong

so bring on gigan

Yeah, I know it's a longshot and unlikely to happen, SpaceGodzilla has just always been a favorite of mine and imo, is one of the coolest looking Kaiju.

I'm more than happy we're getting Ghidorah.
And if that cave painting holds true with Ghidorah being even bigger than Godzilla, we're in for a real treat.

The big issue with going beyond the 5 monsters they have (the fifth is almost certainly Mechagodzilla), is that those are new licenses that they have to negotiate. And personally, I would prefer Legendary to make new monsters as well as use some classics. That was a big issue with the Millenium series of movies, as well as the Heisai era of movies.

Wasn't the original notion with Ghidorah that he was ancient and the one responsible for Mars being devoid of life? Something like that would be a cool element to bring in.
