Godzilla: King of the Monsters (2019)

I think it works better as a summer release too, but the comparison to Pacific Rim Uprising is insignificant. The real comparison would be to Kong: Skull Island, which did fine in March and probably would have done better stateside if not for Beauty and the Beast dropping a week later. Regardless, it is what it is now but a two month delay is really nothing in the grand scheme of things.

Personally I think Kong: Skull Island would've done much better in the summer rather than March. Evidently Godzilla fans don't think it can compete with Aladdin despite the fact it's 2 different audiences :loco:

True, it's two different audiences for the most part, but if Aladdin is a monster hit, that's still a lot of screens it's taking away from Godzilla.

So this one is a straight sequel to Gareth Edwards one, before it crosses over with Kong?

Will there more than likely be a Kong tease with this one?

The fact they moved it from March to May tells me they have faith in the movie. Enough faith to put it out in the summer instead.

Both G'14 and Skull Island take place in the same universe, so it's a yes to both.

Yep. No clue why they delayed it again, but on second thought, this is WB. They've been making questionable decisions for quite a few years now.

Edit: Apparently it's because they added it to the previous release date of Walhberg's "Six Billion Dollar Man" flick. Not production related thankfully, but makes no goddamn sense.

Dude, why are you freaking out??

WB screwed up their DC Films division but they've done well with MonsterVerse so far, so there's no reason not to trust them. Plus this is a much better release date because the release schedule in June isn't looking too hot atm (the 2 biggest movies in June 2019 are gonna be 2 animations which are aiming for a different audience) so KOTM can thrive as the blockbuster event type movie during the prime summer weekends and weekdays.

I'm not freaking out? Just irritated. It's less due to the movie having production problems (which it doesn't seem to be having, thank god), and more due to the delay causing us to wait even more time to get even one teaser poster or trailer.

It's been 4 years of almost nothing.

I can totally understand the frustration for the lack of movement but this delay is most likely for the better. There's more time for CGI enhancements and this move sets up KOTM nicely for bigger BO receipts.

I figured, Haha. You have always been among the rational ones but I was a bit stumped by the WB hate in that previous post. But it's always difficult to understand or comprehend online posts since we can only communicate over keyboards (sometimes some posts are perceived too aggressive even when there was no intention) and I'm sure some of my posts have also been interpreted the incorrectly in the past.

You kinda reach a point where you're so deprived of movie news for about 4 years that your patience eventually runs out. ^^'

I'm still hoping whatever gets released at Comic Con also gets officially released.

Heh. Well, Godzilla: Battle Mobile Breeding City will come out in either June or July so there's that to tide us over until the KOTM teaser.

I'm still hoping whatever gets released at Comic Con also gets officially released.

I think it'll get released online. I don't remember what happened with K:SI but it probably wasn't a long wait for an online release. Plus WB would love to attach the KOTM teaser with The Meg and the online release would be at-least 2 weeks (maybe at worst one week) before it get a theatrical attachment so chances are high that we'll get something official from WB/Legendary in online immediately considering the timeline between SDCC & The Meg.

I suppose it’s good to savour each one though. You don’t want a situation like Star Wars where you get so much you become fat

Well, I never said I wanted the other extreme either. :oldrazz:

I can wait for a trailer to the new one. What I want now is an announcement for some new blu rays from Criterion for the Showa films they got! :cmad:

always remember my friends

through Godzilla all things are possible

I mean, Disney straight up threatens to pull their films from theaters if they don't get all the screens they want, so I wouldn't wanna release close to them either.

Kong did okay coexisting with Beauty and the Beast. I figure they think they can handle Aladdin.

Man I'm really interested to see what Michael Dougherty brings to the table here. In his own original films he has shown that he knows how to write actual characters while not shying away from creature action and he can handle a mix of different tones.

Yeah I reckon kong’s biggest obstacle was the last peter Jackson film. The last one got good buzz plus it’s done well on streaming so the next one will probably do even better

As a die-hard Godzilla fan I'm probably the only one happy about this. Why? Because first off Godzilla is a SUMMER BLOCKBUSTER type franchise. It's the kind of movie that belongs in the summer. March was a terrible release date. Look at what happened to Pacific Rim Uprising. More people will see this in the summer than in March.

Coming out almost a month after Avengers 4 is better than 2 weeks after Captain Marvel. You know that itll be as hyped as Black Panther since it's the first female led Marvel movie because diversity and stuff.

As long as it's a good movie it'll do fine at the BO. Look at how much competition is in this summer alone.

Just my thoughts. It sucks having to wait 2 more months but itll be worth it

I'm right there with you. I've been a Godzilla fan since I was in grade school, and I am about as excited for this as I was for "Infinity War", but if a delay is necessary to ensure it's as successful as possible, then I'm living with it. Either way, big-budget Hollywood tentpole with friggin' Mothra.

Charles Dance's character in Godzilla 2: King of Monsters has reportedly been revealed:

https://discussingfilm.wordpress.co...ene-in-godzilla-2-king-of-monsters-exclusive/

In Godzilla 2: King of Monsters, Charles Dance will be playing a terrorist leader who Warner Bros./Legendary’s TITANS/Kaiju Cinematic Universe likely have bigger plans in store for. He works in a black market that circulates whatever resources that can be gathered from monsters (also known as TITANS now in the universe) and their remains.

Sounds like Ron Perlman's character from "Pacific Rim"

The information about Charles Dance's character somewhat lines up with a "leak" of the movie's plot from 4chan.
