Godzilla vs Kong (2021)

Wingard said this is basically the cut he wanted so don’t expect anything beyond deleted scenes as an extra. Sounds like most of it was Monarch stuff that slowed the pace down. Plus I doubt it’s any additional footage of G or KK since that means money for completed effects.

I mean, the extra Monarch stuff probably would go a long way to fix some things.

It wasn't as much for an issue for me on my home theater setup with surround sound, but I can confirm that this seems to be an issue with HBO Max and their recent new movie releases. Sound is too quiet overall, some dialogue hard to make out on a TV without proper surround sound attached. Noticed this with WW84, The Little Things, and Godzilla vs Kong. Not sure what the deal is.
Thank you.

I don't think adding a completely separate third human story will do much to fix things.

To me, the movie’s plot just seemed needlessly complicated. Like this should be a straightforward script: somethings pissed of Godzilla and caused him to go on a rampage and we need Kong’s help to subdue him. And that kinda IS the plot of this movie but through some very wacky, glossed over machinations that made things unnecessarily complicated and wacky.

I mean, look i still had a big ‘ol fun time with this movie but it felt like it was working way too hard to deliver on a simple concept.

Well like, the whole point of going to Hollow Earth was to find an energy source to create a weapon to fight Godzilla. And then they find it and Rebecca Hall's character gets all angry like you can't do that. What pretense did she think they were going there under?

I'm glad this is making money. I enjoyed it a lot more than I did KOTM. I wish I could've watched it on the big screen, but a popcorn/movie night at home with the fam was nice too.

I know a lot of people said Brian Tyree Henry's story was the least interesting, but he was my favorite. Loved him.

After thinking about it some more, I think I would rate this movie below KOTM. While this movie had some really awesome fight scenes, I think the human storyline was better in KOTM (can’t believe I’m saying that because I remember not liking the characters that much).

Ranking of human storyline, it would be:

Kong Skull Island > Godzilla > Godzilla KOTM > Godzilla vs Kong

Ranking of monster action:

Godzilla KOTM > Godzilla vs Kong > Kong Skull Island > Godzilla

The script for this movie was a mess plain and simple. For me personally its easily the worst written movie in the Monsterverse just because so much of the human stuff doesn't make sense, but its kind of easy to overlook because it has such great pacing and the Kaiju action is awesome and hey as long as it delivers at the end of the day that should be all that really matters with a big, dumb flick like this.

I read an article that they filmed 5 hours worth of footage. I'd be interested in seeing what was cut cause I definitely feel a lot of it was cut out because of the fear of it bombing, which it looks like it isn't, so I wonder if they'll do a WingardCut of the film that maybe fills in the blanks and rounds out the characters better.

I'd really love to know why the storm around Skull Island suddenly changed and wiped out the ecosystem there.

The cut in theaters is Wingard’s cut.

I feel like people don’t know how editing works.

I guess I need to go back and watch KOTM again. I just have bad memories of it. I liked it well enough, but remember it doing bad at the box office and causing Warner Bors to want to end the monster verse . If I remember correctly G vs K was pushed back after the performance of that film.

This movie is doing well enough, but I think a lot of it has to do with this being Godzilla and Kong. Two of the most popular movie monsters of all time, not to mention icons.

I really did like KOTM at the time, but just looking back on it, it really doesn’t resonate well with me . I just keep remembering the one guy spouting crazy line after crazy line and the monster fights being hard to see. I know as far as Godzilla goes that Ghidora is his arch Nemises, but that movie really just misses. Now if we are talking GMK Giant monsters all out attack, That was awesome and still a classic in my eyes.

I watched it this afternoon with my nephew at his house with his HBO MAX. Not sure if it was the actual movie or the way they streamed it......but we cold hardly hear anyone talk. He worked with his TV's sound in many ways....wound up with the sound turned up pretty high. The music and sound effects were overpowering and could't make out most of what people said. So for me....the fights were good but couldn't make heads or tails of the story. Has anyone else had a problem like this?
Can't comment on HBO Max, but I did have some issues with it in theaters. Rebecca Hall's first lines were real quiet and one major scene with Walter Simmons were quiet. Outside of that though I made out most of the dialogue just fine.

Just finished watching. This movie was so dumb it took me out of it. The podcast guy was one of the worst characters I've seen I'm a film in very long time. How exactly does this mega corporation not know about one of their employees conspiracy theory podcast about their very company?

The humans throughout this movie outside of the deaf girl were awful. How did Skaarsgard learn to fly the gravity ship thing again? He's just a master pilot I guess.

I can suspend disbelief to a degree, but this movie really annoyed me with how stupid it was. Where does the sunlight come from in the hollow earth? How does all of that vegetation grow? What did spilling the alcohol on the console even do? It supposedly disrupted the satellite uplink, but it appeared to me that all it did was turned mecha godzilla's spinning tail off. He continued to fight Kong after the uplink was supposedly severed.

Godzilla vs. Kong fight scenes were cool and looked great as did the final team up battle, but literally everything else was just horrible to me. 3/10

My main issue is that his character hits very, very differently after a year of watching what conspiracy theorists can become. And it isn't funny.

Yeah and it bugged me a little that the movie was seemingly validating even actual, real-life conspiracies alongside the fake, in-movie ones. Like there was something about “spy dust” and bathing with bleach to get rid of it. At one point he said how fluoride in tap water is a Nazi technique to make people docile and easy to manipulate. And they seem to imply that because Madison doesn’t drink tap water, she’s not affected but Julian Dennison’s character does so that’s why he’s timid. It’s just a little thing but it bugged me. If only mostly because fluoride-turns-you-into-zombies conspiracy theorists are just people I have to deal with at work fairly frequently :O.

Eh if it's just some extra stuff about the human characters, then I don't care. They were the weakest part in the movie for me, I only liked Rebecca Hall and the little girl.
I can imagine some scenes with Millie and her dad were cut and some "science," but I wouldn't want anymore of that.

I thought Bernie was annoying as hell, but that's some major league stretching there. I get the whole danger of conspiracy theorists and people being radicalized by conspiracy theorists through this whole pandemic.

However, let's put something else in perspective. Big corporations don't always have our best interests at heart and should not always be trusted.

Is Erin Brockovich a pro-conspiracy movie for showing some blue collar workers challenging a big corporate energy company?

Also, it's a fictional movie at the end of the day. Apex was attempting to create an anti-Godzilla weapon despite the fact that Godzilla had saved the planet and the human race from an ancient alien. Also, IMHO no subject matter is off-limits for telling a story, even ones that make people uncomfortable. I'd say the difference is that Bernie Hayes isn't a white supremacist, anti-feminist type or Trumper Thumper. Rather, he's trying to expose the lies of Apex.

To me the thing about tap water wasn't to show that Bernie was correct, it was just to show that Madison knows how to deal with guys like him and how to get him on their side.

Yea equating a goofy movie conspiracy theorist who’s exposing a shady corporation for building MechaGodzilla of all things with QAnon is some major stretching and some borderline disingenuous pearl clutching.

Yeah Bernie didn't really bother me, I failed to find his and Madison's storyline interesting, but they didn't annoy me or anything, they were just there to let the audience know about the main bad guy threat.

It surprised me that they went with the Fluoride is a Nazi plot when the actual conspiracy theory, that it is a communist plot, has been aroun since the 50's. Check out the superb Kubrick film DR. STRANGELOVE, where the reason General Ripper starts WWIII is because of fluoride in the water.
