Goyer says All DC films at Warner Bros. are on Hold

Because WWE is so much better??? Right............

Im kidding...WWE and TNA are both horrible...but I still watch both because Im an addict. All of my entertainment seems to be based around musclemen in spandex fighting. Not sure what that says about me...

They both are bad right now, agreed. But they both have their bright spots here and there.

I too watch because I'm an addict and I've been a wrestling fan for 18 years. I wish it was more like the old days.

i used to watch wrestling.

I think it's because now the wrestlers need to develop their personalities instead of having just natural charisma. I miss guys like The Rock, Kurt Angle, and Mick Foley.

Isn't Kurt Angle in TNA right now? I don't watch wrestling now, but if I do I'd watch TNA because Kurt Angle was/is my favorite wrestler. TNA also has other ex-WWE stars like Christian Cage, Booker T, etc.

Christian has resigned with WWE and will be fueding with Jeff Hardy in the very near future.

Not to keep a threadjack alive or anything...

I don't watch TNA. I'm simply a Samoa Joe fan.

Obviously something was up. Despite all the buzz, WB would NOT commit to a Supermax movie.

.

If anyone wants to know the problem look no further than this.

There's only ONE DC guy that works at WB. Or basically, as far as the films, there's like only one guy there there who is like WB's DC person.

Marvel has Marvel Studios and a whole group of people and teams of executives. DC does NOT have that with WB.

And they still really don't know what to do. Even if they have the second biggest movie of all time that was based on a DC Comic.

Is anything ever gonna beat Titanic?!

Well, Im sure Jonah Hex and Green Lantern arn't being held because they have gained so much momentum, and when Nolan is ready to continue they arn't going to say "Sorry not doing DC right now"

Warner Bros. have gone past the point of being able to surprise me.

Agreed.

Though if it the latter at least this will allow them more opportunity to do the former once they figure out what to do.

It may suck, but this is better then blindly plodding ahead with no long term plan. It looks like they're finally starting to learn. :woot:

It's taken them f***in' long enough.

I HOPE SO.

I mean, WHY would they NOT want to profit from these franchises now?? Especially Superman and Batman since they have proven to be profitable. I'm sure they have figured by now that with a decent story, the right cast, and great action the people will come.

Ya'd think that, wouldn't you?

I hope so, cuz otherwise, the whole thing just doesn't make sense to me. I mean, are they that innept or what?

Yes.

I think it was another website (I think collider, I'm not too sure) where David Goyer stated a more..detailed response to a very similar question.

He stated that now DC is going through a lot of changes, storywise. For example, Barry Allen is coming back as The MAIN Flash right? So for the movie, it wouldn't make sense if they used Wally West instead.

It's stuff like that, so I wouldn't worry about it too much. It means that WB cares about these franchises. Also, remember Jim Lee, Grant Morrison, and other DC guys had meetings with WB throughout the Fall, in regards to the DC movies.

They have a funny way of showing it.

So, about those DC movies ...

Good point.

Its so refreshing that at least once a year we get to hear that WB isnt doing any comics movies because they are still thinking about how to do them. I think I speak for us all when i say that this nostalgic feeling Im having for the last ten times we were told this just brings a tear to my eye. It shows the great care WB is putting into this. I mean, the first thought would be to just ADAPT THE COMICS THAT HAVE MADE THEM MONEY FOR DECADES, but no...we should examine this further. Perhaps there are ideas that they can steal from marvel??? Or perhaps the success of Twilight means that they should turn all of their superheros into vampires??? Its all so confusing to a multimillion dollar a year executive. Should we faithfully adapt the characters or halt the movies production every six months to try to follow the next trend? Its brilliant, really.

(sarcasm mode turned off)

LOL! good one

so what you're saying is, they need more people who knows how to successfully bring its DC Comics properties to the bigscreen?

*raises hand*

whoah wait... Lee, Morisson et al had a meeting with WB? what was it about? how did it turn out?

Just as a follow up to what I said before, and in fairness to IESB, Goyer is quoted as saying...
“A lot of the DC movies at Warner Brothers are all on hold while they figure out, they’re going to come up with some new plan, methodology, things like that so everything has just been pressed pause at the moment
That's probably where IESB got the 'all DC films' from.

As a reminder, the first Superman trial (alter ego claim) is set for Jan. 20, with a pre-trial hearing this coming Monday, Jan. 12. The second trial (accounting claim) is set for Mar. 24. Part of the problem with tying all their properties together cohesively is that they don't know where they stand with their Superman property. We may not hear anything about their Grand Plans, and certainly nothing about the next Superman film, until these legal issues are cleared up.

Explains why Y:The Last Man was delayed, sounded like the script was going to be ready but now the Jack and Beanstalk movie is being made. But its likely the next DC property to get the greenlight in 2009.

How does Goyer know their projects are on hold? He's not a producer at das Weiner Bros.

Hes obviously trying to get DC movies off the ground though, Im sure they'd have to tell him eventually

He's no Avi Arad.

and?

hes not some **** head off the street squeezing producers for info either. Hes the co-writer of the Batman movies who has also written script for both Flash and Green Arrow. I think they know who he is.

And he doesn't have the push to get more DC superheroes on the silver screen.

I just want to say that The Unborn looks like a slapped together rip-off of The Excorcist (including the crab walking).

But...the lead actress is seriously smokin...so I can forgive him. Not to the point of spending $8 to watch it, but forgiveness nevertheless.

A critic at Bloody-Disgusting.com is already tearing "The Unborn" a new one. Nice try, Goyer, you hack!

And he doesn't have the push to get more DC superheroes on the silver screen.

Did I say he did? Im just saying that he is in a perfectly good situation to know that DC heroes are on hold at WB.

My point was that there needs to be a whole DC Films/DC Studios division set up at Warner Bros.

My point was that there needs to be a whole DC Films/DC Studios division set up at Warner Bros.
isnt that what the "summit" covered as well, the reorganization of DC/ DC properties and how they should have more involvement in the comic book movies that WB bankrolls?

My point was that there needs to be a whole DC Films/DC Studios division set up at Warner Bros.

Why does WB need another level of bureaucracy? The head of production still is going to make the final call and I fail to see the purpose of another division. It's not like WB has a division of Drama. Or a division of Harry Potter. Or a division of Comedy. Heck, WB just collapsed New Line into them.

What they need is someone that the head of production respects that can make a good case for comic book films and can explain why the direction they're going in is the right direction. It doesn't even need to be the only job the guy does, but finding an executive that's a DC fan and giving him some area of responsibility in development makes a whole lot more sense than a division devoted to a couple of films a year, the biggest franchise of which is functioning just fine without need of a new division.

Dammit! All we get are delays! And if this is cuz Nolan doesn't want to be a team playa then get rid of his ass! I don't care what he's made! Yes, TDK was awesome, but he can't be allowed to hold back the other DC franchises! There's more to DC then just Batman, and his narrow minded policies shouldn't be allowed to hold back the other DC films.

When the two biggest money earners of 2008 are superhero films...and two of the biggest bombs are superhero films...it shows that studios need an organized plan and a team that knows and respects what they are dealing with. Theres lots of money to be made or lost.
