It still does not, in any way, justify the Chuck Berry comment. Behind Dylan and Elvis, he is bar none the most influential solo artist in the history of rock, and you pretentiously downplaying his influence.

No, i have nothing but respect and admiration for chuck berry, It's just I'm trying to keep it to the whole element of Bands, and chuck berry was very much rock and roll, 'sweet little rock n roller' springs to mind. But still awesome stuff.

Wow, that's a pretty extensive library, does it come with an honorary doctorate in music? Listen, I understand your defense of the Rolling Stones, I love their music too. The first concert I ever saw was The Stones in Detroit during the Steel Wheels tour when I was 8 years old and based on a number of the musicians you've noted I would say that you and I had a very similar musical upbringing (though I spent a lot of time listening to old blues like Skip James, Robert Johnson, etc. aswell). My only problem with the Stones is that they should have quit a long time ago. They've discredited themselves by playing out as long as they have.

I would agree, but I'm a bastard, lol. No seriously, I'd have thought the same, but a few years back I saw their 'bridges to babylon' tour, and they have more life in them than any of these youngsters. They still rock, literally, lol. I think they are one of the few bands that can play for 4 hours, with every song being a classic that everyday people would recognise.

Actually, it's all the same thing. And rock 'n' roll mainly was derived from white people singing black spirituals and the delta blues. Swing was added into some of the R & B (Mostly Fats Domino) of the day, but for the most part it was seperate.

Well, The Rolling Stones experimented with reggae, disco, funk, punk, etc.

Not too familliar with The 13th Floor Elevators.

I guess I have to agree with the first part there. However, if The Beatles had lasted longer they might have done similar experimentation. But that's all hypothetics. Anyway, The 13th Floor Elevators were a band from Austin, TX in the mid-late '60s. They're credited with using the word psychedelic in pertaining to music for the first time. The band leader Roky Erickson was an acid head and to avoid jail time for drug possession charges he agreed to enter a mental hospital...and it arguably messed up his mind more than the drugs ever did. He's been in and out of it ever since and now, with the help of his brother, it looks like he's out of his rut for good. I saw him live last summer and he still sounded great. The Elevators' biggest hit is "You're Gonna Miss Me." It's in a Dell commercial now. At first I didn't like that but if it helps Roky I'm okay with it. The band seems to be more well known by musicians, music nerds, journalists and indie hipsters than the general public.

Meg's no John Bonham but then again, is anyone? Well, maybe Jimmy Chamberlin. Anyway, this is just my opinion but The White Stripes are great. They're awesome live too. People look down on them because they're so gimmicky but they play great music. What it is really is amped up country blues and amped old school country & western. Anybody who claims to love classic rock should like The White Stripes.

Yeah, the White Stripes are alright. My favorites by them are Blue Orchid, Fell In Love With A Girl, and naturally Seven Nation Army. Greatest band of all time? Now that, I'd say, would either be Zeppelin or The Beatles.

It would have been cool to see the Beatles go on longer. They probably would have broken up when John was killed, but would he have gotten killed if the Beatles were still together? And would George still be alive? It's all very interesting to think about.
