hahaha, I don't know that but I've heard the name and it makes me laugh.
It sounds like some euphemism for female genitalia or something.
Or an exotic cheese.

That's what I've always thought of it as, too. LOL! Maybe that's part of why I like it? :D

That's a pretty bold statement. Are you a drummer?

No. I'm a songwriter and I work extensively with a drummer to make sure that I know what I'm doing when writing for drums. And I know that the skill of a drummer isn't measured by how fast they can play, but the theory they encorporate into playing. Keith Moon and John Bonham aren't remembered as two of the greatest drummers because they can play fast (though they could). They are remembered for playing drums they way the song required them to. That's genius.

Thank you. That was an absolutely brilliant post.

Richard Christy, Neil Peart, Nick Menza, and Joey Jordison are definitely amazing drummers.

I remember watching Joey perform with Glen Benton of Deicide and he is absolutely insane.

Thank you, sir. After 3 years of music theory my new philosophy is fast doesn't always equal good.

I wish all musicians lived by that philosophy, especially 95 % of today's mainstream bands.

I know the feeling. My band's keyboardist gets board with slower music and sort of disregards it. But I'm training him and getting somewhere. His new favorite song is "New York State of Mind."

Great song. I've actually seen Billy Joel in concert twice this year. He's amazing.

He actually had a great drummer for a long time in Liberty DeVito. Too bad they had a falling out.

Got a link to any of them?
forum.robbykrieger.com
go the media section, look for the concert download of Berlin 06 (you can do one song at a time) and look for Eagle in the Whirlpool.

PS-I moderate there ;)

What about Dave Lombardo from slayer
Pete Sandoval from Morbid Angel
These two are great drummers you should check them out
Dave Lombardo is a solid drummer. While he made his name with Slayer, his stuff with Fantomas and his other projects are interesting.

I still enjoy Morbid Angel, but to me the drumming sounds the same on every song.

Edit: damn, that link is down. I'm off on vacation now, but Ill post links to new songs here on the 22nd, take care y'all

Have fun.

Aaron Gillespie from underoath is probably the best modern day drummer. He sings while playing!! And not just simple beats, they are super technical.

Also, As I Lay Dying's drummer: Fricking insane.

If those are some Underoath lyrics in your sig, then I definitely won't be checking those guys out any time soon. Sorry, can't get past lyrics like that, even if their drummer could make Mike Portnoy look like an eight year old with his first drum kit, I wouldn't be able to get past lyrics like that.

I agree. Bad lyrics walk hand in hand with bad musicians.

Then again, Bob Dylan isn't the greatest harmonica player.
