Green Arrow the Movie, anyone?

IM not saying it cant be important. I mean in Green Hornet, Britt was a jackass even before his dad died. While it did move him forward as a character (albeit not til alot later in the movie) it wasnt the reason why he is the way he is like Batman

I just reread GA Year One after sorting through my collection - and really they could do that story panel for panel, but instead have him learn information about Chien Na Wein's backers in the states and pursue them on returning instead of ending the story on the island with the navy showing - and that'd be one pretty damn perfect GA film

Heck yea man. I've been saying that since I read Year One too. My favorite GA graphic novel so far. :woot:

In Avengers, Hawkeye will perhaps be a useless character. Marvel studios will cram him into the plot just for the sake of it, and it will turn out pointless. I imagine Hawkeye to be just a background character, and that's less important than a ordinary supporting character.

All this gives room for DC Entertainment to come up with something that will give Green Arrow the edge over Marvel's copy. By the end of 2012, in the aftermath of Avengers, a script will be in the works. The film will come out by late 2014 or early 2015, and it will show the world that a superhero archer not only works in a blockbuster, but also also works as the MAIN character in a blockbuster. And then everyone will forget the failure of Hawkeye.

Can't see any reason why Hawkeye would be rubbish. Renner's big enough that Hawkeye'll have a role at least comparable to Black Widow had in IM2. If they were including people just for the sake of cramming them into the plot, then we'd have the wasted potential of Giant Man and Wasp thrown in. As it stands I think they're only including as many core characters as they can properly use.

GA can stand alone without comparisons to Hawkeye - the story just needs to hit the right elements of survival, growth, skill, and determination of a man

GA can't stand alone. He's an archer and in the main public's eye, it's easy to confuse the two of them

I think GA is one of those characters that they could produce a high quality tv show because it wouldnt cost all that much in special effects, besides the arrows of course.

Maybe the difficulty with a TV show is distancing it from being simply a spin off from Smallville. GA in that became enough of a core element that a weekly drama series by WB that didn't have Justin as Ollie and didn't have him characterised as they did would just throw people off. But I don't think the "version" they used for Smallville, as much as I liked him in it, is the right one to carry his own show and it really hit people.

Does anybody have any details of previous tv and film attempts? Back in the 90's Bilson and De Meo of the Flash said they were trying to come up with a series that they called a weird alternate world political story. Also their original pitch that led to the Flash was a Watchmen-like script called Unlimited Powers that featured the death of Oliver Queen with his daughter becoming the new Green Arrow. Someone on aicn recently posted that Rutger Haur was learning archery for a Longbow Hunter adaptation.

Sounds like you've got more details than most of us already.

I got most of that from old issues of Comic Scene magazine. They had a section in the back called "Comic Screen" that would list all of the properties in development with tidbits about crew and content.

Jealous much?

I think both GA and Hawkeye could exist. GA is more of the traditional bowman, modern Robin hood and Hawkeye is more of a Bourne-like operative who has a penchant being a sniper. Hawkeye don't wear hoods; he wears high tech glasses. GA may wear hood and sports a goatee like Robin Hood.

GA is one of the more ready DC properties to made for the big screen because its concept not so far-fetched. Sucks with the "Green" name, but a good & famous actor could wash all it away. Do it DC.

No I am not jelous. But Warner must show that Green Arrow is a better character than Hawkeye when it comes to superhero archers in live action. He just HAS to be superior, to get interest from the audience.

I thought the supermax idea was interesting because it was a way to differentiate superhero films from eachother. I still think of any characters GA would be ripe for television if you move it away from the smallville version. If you could focus on street level crime mixed in with social issues it would make a fascinating series that would be part superhero show part drama discussing real problems such as drug use.

I liked that it was different, but my question is where the hell would the series go? How the hell do you follow up on the character going to freaking prison (a place no superhero film has gone anywhere near before) and raise the stakes?

Hell yes. This would be a perfect first movie OR first season of television.

I'm feeling Ryan Kwanten as Oliver Queen/Green Arrow.

Have him escape and go on the run while at the same time trying to clear his name/re-establish himself as a hero?

Charlie Hunamm is still my ideal Ollie/Green Arrow. Especially if they do Year One storyline.

Karelia: Another brit to play an american hero. But brits are great! :awesome:

Yeah, maybe like a Bourne meets superhero type thing.

EDIT: Or "The Fugitive"

I don't know. I would want a Green Arrow film to be representative of the stories told in Green Arrow comics, just as films like Batman Begins and The Dark Knight are representative of the type of stories told in Batman comics.

I wrote another post saying I full agree with this. And I still. But, after some thought, the only risk would be making sure the 3rd act and Green Arrow's debut in the states wouldn't be rushed because in my mind, the bulk of the film would take place on the island.

Taylor Kitsch is another one that I think would make a great Oliver Green, but he isn't blonde lol

I would also prefer a sleeker Green Arrow instead of a bulkier one. I'd like him to have more of a cardio body that is well toned, built for endurance first and foremost.
