Green Arrow the Movie, anyone?

Charlie Hunnam

Definitely agree with Charlie Hunamm. Posted him as my pick for Oliver/Green Arrow a page or two back. :D

He looks the part, but I've never seen him act. I'd like Michael Fassbender in the role.

Yeah, I've yet to see Hunnam in anything besides Sons of Anarchy and he's pretty grim there. I'm not sure if he can pull off the "maturity for all of 4.3 seconds" Ollie. I wouldn't complain if he got the role though.

Hunnam or Garrett Hedlund if we're going young, Josh Holloway if we're going old.

So who would be the villain in a Green Arrow movie?

Ollie doesn't really have much of a rogues gallery. It's down to Merlyn, Onomatopoeia, Constantine Drakon, Icicle, Deathstroke, and Dr. Light. And even those last three are stretching it.

I'd go with Dr. Light since he's the only main eventer on there. Though I'd really like to see Deathstroke.

There's always Clock King. :woot:

Seriously though Deathstroke will likely be the villain in a Teen Titans movie, so I don't think they will use him.

Teen Titans' movie in the next 5-10 years? Live action? Not happening lol.

@Savage: I can see Woody Harrelson happening. This could actually be defining role depending on the story and theme of the show/movie.

I once thought Hunnam would be good when people were first suggesting him because Sons of Anarchy is okay. But after watching the show I just don't think he has the chops yet. He may, who knows, but from the show he just seemed to fizzle out rather than stand out like Olyphant in Justified, IMO. It's probably just the ensemble cast and story telling that makes it seem that way.

As far as villains I would like to see Merlyn, Deathstroke, and Dead Shot.

I'm actually surprised there hasn't been a live action Teen Titans. It seems like the perfect concept for hollywood. It has teens fighting crime. Hence, it will bring in all the teen demo. Hence, bring in money.

So is the logic of hollywood.

I'm with you. I'm surprised as well. I can see a live action Titans movie working both as a feature film and as a series takeover for Smallville. There is definitely a demo out there for it and a strong enough fan following. I guess DC and the Hollywood powers that be can't get on the same page to realize what might be profitable.

Yeah, if Ben 10 can get like...3 live action movies, Teen Titans can get a live action show. I don't see how a direct translation WON'T be good really. I can only see a show being bad if it ends up like that Generation X pilot. A movie would be great, even, but a show with great stuntwork and just enough special effects to produce plausible action sequences would be great.

I disagree. You get a lot more done with a tv series than you do with a movie. A movie serves to tell one story with a bigger budget and better special effects. A tv series tells many stories with much better character development at the cost of the budget. I think a lot of heroes can benefit from the latter treatment.

I mean imagine if instead of comics coming out on a monthly basis you get one trade every 3 or so years. I'd much prefer the serial format for some heroes. Granted we're barely advanced enough for guys like Green Lantern to be affordable on a movie budget but I think there are heroes out there that can afford to have their stories be told on a weekly basis.

Isn't it about time legit heroes started getting the small screen treatment and not just made for tv characters (who end up getting comics anyway)?

It depends. Comic series can do well. Human Target is a good action show and The Walking Dead is good too. However neither or them required a huge budget as with superpowered shows

You say a movie tells one story with a bigger budget and SFX which for a superhero/superpowered film is good. You also forget with a movie you usually get better/bigger talent.
Yes there are great talents on TV. But what are the chances that a Green Arrow will get a Jon Hamm or a Michael C Hall, etc. Not very likely especially if it lands on the CW which I guess that it will. But in general, movies attract bigger acting talent, bigger directing talent, and bigger writing talent.

Of course I'd prefer a TV show on HBO more than a GA film starring Nicolas Cage *shudder*, but still movies bring more talent and better FX which are needed for superhero/superpowered stuff.

While this is true, what exactly does a character like Green Arrow have that can't be done on a tv budget? Hell, I'm surprised Batman hasn't had a live action show since the 60s. The current movies don't even require that much impractical effects. Most of the money is spent on locations and talent.

I just find it strange that every superpowered show I watch uses characters I've never heard of or just dudes in civillian clothing. Let's bring in the tights.

Exactly! How is it that Ben 10 (good show by the way) can get this type of treatment, but we can't get a Teen Titans or other superheroes show up off the ground and made into a live action series or if possible film.

I think with these sub-par superhero shoes that have been popping up lately there will be even more delay for legitimate classic superhero shows. To be honest though from what I've seen of No Modern Family it is entertaining and I can see how it appeals to people, plus it has the Thing lol.

Its No Ordinary Family, Modern Family is a completely different show

Its a decent show for what it is. But I do wish they would get more into the superhero stuff

It is pretty good. I'm just tired of shows like that and Heroes where it's "We're too cool for that tights stuff." and that they can run around fighting crime maskless. They're good shows on their own but it kind of makes me go "*after watching Xena* What's Wonder Woman's excuse again?"

It just kind of sucks cause you have shows that are LIKE the superheroes we know but in the end are not. We have a show like X-men. Why isn't it X-men? We have a show like The Fantastic Four. Why aren't they the Fantastic Four?

Sorry bout that, yeah No Ordinary Family, I get those mixed up when typing too fast.

@Savage I can understand why they don't wear the tights or go for the full Superhero day job theme. It's usually because they want to keep the show grounded in some sense, and to have these "average" or "ordinary" people run around in tights and masks justs seems far fetched in their eyes.

However, if they were to have the show start off in that way or at least hint at that direction or provide reasons for the use of costumes, much like the new show The Cape will do, then tights, leather, muscle suits, etc. would make sense.

With shows like No Ordinary Family and Heroes it made sense not to wear costumes, it just didn't fit the story of the show. Yeah they are hiding their identities, but the show is so focused on character development and story movement that to take time out and introduce and rationalize the use of spandex costumes and masks would just take time away from the plot unfolding and story. Plus, if you notice characters who don't wear costumes, masks, and tights are 9 times out of 10 the reluctant and hesitant characters.

Now with shows like The Cape, Mantis, Birds of Prey, and Smallville to name a few a portion of the story and plot episodes either explain the reason for costumes in one way or another and emphasize the the heroes wanting to be a crime fighter, but need for discretion.

Oh I'm not complaining about those shows doing it. Those shows are those shows. I'm just asking the question why not make a show about something with a built in fanbase if you want to go the superhero route? There's a gold-mine of characters. I spend half my time watching these shows comparing the characters to actual superheroes anyway.

I don't get why people are so afraid to bring in the tights, for lack of a better way to put it. Look at a show like Birds of Prey. 3 women. Only one of them has a power and it's not even a major one. These guys went out of their way to change it for god knows what reason. Huntress for one went around maskless in civvies fighting crime and no-one recognized the bartender as a superhero. Why? What's the point of that? Would people really find the character of Huntress from the books that implausible that she needed to be superhuman with powers (you know, because no way could a regular human being do what she does...)? Did Dinah Lance have to be some kind of deer in the headlights toothpick psychic?

It would just be nice to see a show embrace it's comic book roots and not half ass it is all. People get enough "realism" from cop shows. Not everything needs an explanation. You'd be surprised how often a conversation goes "He's a superhero." "Oh. Okay.". That's really all the exposition most people need.

I can't find youtube clips of this for crap but check out this opening. This was 7 years ago. What about this kind of action requires a big a budget?

Minute and a half fight.

Why is it that action on tv is monopolized by...well...folks that look like civilians? I can really see a guy like Green Arrow in a scene like that. For christ's sake, he was even quipping.

I agree with you whole heartedly. I don't understand why many comics can not be directly translated to the screen. Maybe if the films stay more true to the comic depictions than television won't seem cheapened by the use of spandex, tights, and the many other elaborate costumes superheroes adorn. Then again we did have Generation X as you mentioned lol, which I thought was good at the time, but obviously didn't hit it off with the semi-Riddler (Batman Forever) villain pilot.

Thanks, The Overlord for suggesting Clock King as the villain. :)
It should be like Batman's The Riddler, but with time and clocks instead of riddles and question marks. Very cool, if done right

Terry Gilliam as director. He would put his own spin on the hero, and I would looove that :D

Actually, David Fincher is perfect for this, but he don't like superheroes from what I have heard.

now that Smallville is done I guess this could be done.. might as well go with Justin Hartley.. I'd like to see a straight-ahead adventure rather than the SuperMax thing, though..
