Oh most definitely. But from what I heard, he had a casting wish list set up even before he went to WB with the script. I find it rather funny that Nolan likes to work with the same cast/crew over and over again but it doesn't look like he wants to share with Snyder :oldrazz:

LOL, isn't because he's going to be using them for his own movie now.

I imagine Nolan and Snyder in a sand box with Nolan not sharing any of his toys.

Snyder: ...um....Hardy?

Nolan: Go fish.

Snyder should be happy. without Nolan and WB he wouldnt get this cast for Men of Steel.

He also chose the director, as I recall.

Well, it was probably WB's final decision, but he agreed with the selection.

But, as Poni Boi stated, he's not going to be involved with MOS as much as fans think he is. He also said in an interview that Batman and Superman are the two best and most interesting superheroes, so I don't know how interested he is in developing movies for other heroes. WB couldn't force him to come up with an idea if he wasn't interested, and he has the clout to say no.

This really is like what happened with Transformers. Bay was hired by Spielberg coming off a string of expensive under-performers and/or flops and got held under a very tight leash. The story/story by K&O, the hiring of Shia as the lead, etc. - that was all Spielberg.

Not unlike The Man of Steel.

Rarely will you hear people come out and publicly confess how the producers called the shots and the director basically did what they told them to do.

so is the cast from Nolan and is Snyder on a tight leash?

because i watched SUcker Punch days ago and i forgot about the acting when Snyder had freedom. :csad:

That's basically the point I was making. Spielberg also saw qualities in Bay's action choreography that he felt lent itself well to Transformers....despite not being the greatest of storytellers.

Funny thing is that Bay apparently didn't want the gig at first (I believe Snyder also expressed his aversions to doing Superman as well)...but that lure of possible extreme success can be hard to resist...especially if you've had a few clunkers.

I so wished Spielberg actually directed; we would've had a story that we actually care about (we see glimpses of it in the first movie). Now its just incoherent explosions.

Ticket sale explosions. :O

That's my problem with Snyder. They guy is brilliant when translating films from script to screen with little to no input (except for his stylized take) but when you let him run wild with his original notions you get Legend of the Guardians and Sucker Punch.

Maybe he's got a good script to work off of for Superman.

A grave mistake. All I remember from the action scenes in Transformers were colourful metals thrashing and banging. He improved in the second one though, and the third one looks to have the best action—but I shan't be watching it.

Wishful thinking? Probably. That said, WB is going to have some money to play with after Harry Potter is said and done as that's almost a garaunteed $1 billion in box office revenues. The Dark Knight Rises is probably good for 400-500 million. Man Of Steel probably in the range of $400 million, especially if it's as good as it can be with Nolan's involvement. There's some possibility that the studio is going to still be looking to GL as their next big tentpole franchise, reassess, reformulate and really attack a sequel with all their might. Might be a slim possibility, but I think it's there.

With this one I'm not entirely certain the box office numbers are the end all, be all for GL's film franchise. Not with other signs pointing to WB putting a lot of confidence in the property.

I only disagree with your MOS prediction. No way 400 million.

Superman is a second tier franchise and it will be lucky to make 250 million domestic IMO. The only reason WB is doing it is because of a court order.

Mojo has a good article on these second tier franchises and how they did just so, so this year. Though most are expected to get sequels.

Mojo notes that the studios may reconsider pouring huge amounts into second tier franchises expecting to make first tier box office. It doesn't seem to be happening.

Spiderman, Batman and Ironman are in a league by themselves. That may be the be all and end all.

The Mojo article you are referring to was a tremendously stupid piece.

Surprised to hear you say that. The main reason most people hate the second one....besides the 'frat-boy humor'...is because the action is so much worse than the first one. What was incomprehensible in the first movie it seems Bay amplified and ignored what was the good action.

It certainly came up roses for them money-wise, though.

I don't think that's accurate.

We are seeing this year how hard it is for a comic book movie to crack $200 million domestic.

Superman did that with a movie that just about everyone hated. Contrast that with Batman Begins....which almost everyone loved...and it only made $5 million more. (Both had horrible previous movies as "baggage") Just imagine how much a Superman movie would make if everyone loved it?
