Nice of everyone to curb the conversation back on topic.

Green Lantern and Jonah hex were in development before she came on board.

Would it have made a difference if GL had been on development after she joined?

I hope Johns gets let go from his job with the movies but I hope he stays with the comics

I don't see why the movie's failures would impact Johns doing the comic. Those are doing well.

Me too. They seemed to have tried to make him DC's mouthpiece like Stan Lee while adding input like Kevin Feige. But he's a comics guy, leave him on that side of the house and hire someone new to do those things

I don't see how they would at all. That's what he's good at (or known for, for those who don't like his writing). But I'm already hearing rumblings that WB wants him to shoulder the GL debacle blame

For his position as creative consultant for DC Entertainment, yes he should take heavy blame. Prob deserves fired from that job. But, I don't see why they'd fire him from their profitable comic book.

It wouldnt. Im just saying if he had to get fired from something I would want it to be his role in the movies

Wolverine opened huge because of the built in fan base, and the returning super star.

Like some people, I consider all the pre-First Class movies to be Wolverine movies, so basically XMOW is really the 4th Wolverine film, technically putting it in the same class as Fast 5, which did beat Thor.

Hell, now more than ever they need Johns and Lee on a united DC front. That upcoming relaunch has so many people (comic book shop owners especially) pissed off.

For good reason, though, LOL! The relaunch idea is dumb.

Yessir it is. In the state of economy we're in you should shun your current fanbase in hopes of bringing on new readers. Plus, putting all the new issues online the same day as they are available in stores is a smite to shop owners.

But I digress, Green Lantern looks like it's going to bring in about $6.5 mil on Saturday. Not much of a drop from Friday

So let's see, GL is doing worse than Ghost Rider or Fantastic Four even though it costs more than both those combined?

.................................so umm yeah.........

I think WB put too much faith and expectation with GL, and probably failed to see the movie's flaws since they were pinning this as the hope of non-Superman & Batman movies and the future of the new WB/DC partnership. Perhaps all these pressure ended up hurting the movie more than helping it.

Johns has previous experience in the medium, I assume we all know this.

Moreover, considering all the people involved in creating this movie, I don't see why Johns, who probably didn't have that large a voice would be getting all the blame,

What about deLine, what about Campbell, or the rest of the Executives?
I'm not the biggest fan of johns, but this movie seems to have failed for reasons other than he handed them the script and took charge of the film.

Actually it has been reported that Johns pulled a lot of weight in the decision making, I remember reading somewhere that producers weren't exactly happy that Geoff had so much say in the movie making process.

According to Deadline:
Hollywood is expecting director Martin Campbell to be made the scapegoat: he's already publicly suggested he won't be back if there's a sequel. Some point to Geoff Johns, DC Entertainment's chief creative officer who also writes the Green Lantern comics and was integrally involved (reputedly even the deciding vote) on every big decision.

Johns got to influence parts of the movie, Michael Green is who he worked with. But it was the four screenplay writers that made the movie suffer. Had they done an adaptation of Green Lantern: Secret Origin, which they said they followed and they clearly didn't but instead replaced Atrocitous with Legion and this movie would have been great. Alas, those writers were crap.

Ha! I agree completely. I keep seeing people (fans, after it came out) say the movie was a Secret Origins translation and it makes me scratch my head. Besides the "I think he was a soldier" and "..worth day of your miserable life" lines I fail to see the connection.

Yes, that is why the suits at WB created a position for him (Chief Creative Officer) to be a watchdog on comics-to-film translations. So far, since he's been in that slot, they have had a Wonder Woman TV pilot that was produced but not picked up and a Green Lantern movie that was both a financial and critical disappointment. Johns was supposed to be their quality assurance guy who guaranteed fan approval for these projects. Who else should they point a finger at?

Moreover, considering all the people involved in creating this movie, I don't see why Johns, who probably didn't have that large a voice would be getting all the blame,

Johns was integral in every step of this production.

If it was up to me, I'd blame them too! Unfortunately WB will either A) avoid making any comments about this situation whatsoever ("This is not the crappy film you're looking for") or B) have whoever is taking the fall (more than likely Johns) attempt to make amends with the fanbase. The thought of either just put a bad taste in my mouth

This is why you shouldn't give a comic guy with no experience in movie production the position to make decisions about movies. Kevin Feige >>>>>>> geoff Johns and I don't even like Feige.
