So, no Nova? He was the one I was hoping most to see in this.

I've been concerned about how the hell they're going to pull this movie off but that concept art is beautiful.

Wow really surprised that this will be the second 2014 movie from Marvel well i hope it's as good as the rest of the other Marvel films

So no Nova or Adam Warlock? really hope they add them or this is going to be one lame team.

I think we'll see Nova in the future. Marvel's been pushing him alot lately, so there's no way that we won't see the Human Rocket on the big screen soon. But I'm pretty sure he deserves his own origin movie, mainly because having Nova & Star-Lord's origins in the first movie would be a bit redundant.

If Thanos is the villain, then Adam is sure to be in this movie. He maybe a Nick Fury to the Guardians, he gathers them up to help fight Thanos.

Marvel are actually going to do this? Well I applaud their bravery

Star Lord needs to have the top part of his helmet, it doesn't look right without it.

Just throwing a crazy thought out there, but does anyone else get a LOTR vibe from that concept art? Like how it makes it look that Guardians will feature an orc (Drax), an ent, space!Aragorn (Star-Lord), a hobbit (Rocket Raccoon) and a she-elf (Gamora). The analogy simply came to mind and I think it's pretty cool. :woot:

I can't say I can get behind this one just yet. There are so many better characters they can be doing

Have you read the books or are you just assuming there are better characters out there? I'm pretty excited myself as a fan of the books and I'm pretty satisfied with the lineup since these are my favorite members. Nova has never been on the team and I can live without Mantis and Adam Warlock. I know people are trying to throw in characters they're more familiar with or some über powerful characters but this team being a ragtag of almost Z level misfits is what makes them awesome.

Is it just me or does the Groot character have zero appeal, at all, like none whatsoever.

For those worrying about budget, note that Avengers was done on 220 million, and yet looked like something that should have cost way more. Guardians of the Galaxy will probably have a cheaper cast, so as long as they maintain the same level of budget discipline, I think they can do a good movie for slightly less than that.

Whether they can sell it to the general audience is the bigger question. . .

Dude he's a big, talking, fighting tree. Think the Ents from LOTR. It will be great. Besides him and Rocket are besties.

I think a lot of people were hoping it would turn out to be Black Panther, or an official release date for Ant-man. Or maybe they were hoping for GotG featuring Nova and Warlock. Watching the footage, I didn't get the sense that the crowd was too overly excited about the announcement, either (at least compared to the other projects). In fact, when they saw RR shown on the screen, I think a lot of them thought it was just a joke.
I'll reserve judgment for now, but I suspect someone a lot higher up than Kevin Feige on the Disney food chain pushed the issue for a GotG movie over BP...simply based on marketing and merchandising.

Big fan of Guardians and I'm so glad this movie is happening. Really interesting to see what they're gonna do with Guardians, how the general audience will react and all that interesting stuff. Now i got something to look forward to after TDKR.

I don't mind if Warlock, Nova, etc. don't have that big of a role in this particular film, i just hope cosmic Marvel really starts growing and we'll see them in sequels or in their own movies.

I think Guardians of the Galaxy butted to the front of the line because it's a far more unique property than "yet another superhero origin movie, but this time with a character you haven't heard of."

To comic book fans, Black Panther and Ant-Man maybe more recognizable than GotG; but to the GA, it's all unknown. Disney/ Marvel probably decided that GOTG had the most potential to transcend second tier property stigma and cross-over.

I can't wait to buy a Rocket Raccoon plushy!:wow:

Right there with ya.
I've never given GOTG a chance and I've never read the books, but I'm of the opinion that there are other characters that easily could and should make the transition from comic to film before GOTG. I'm sure it's a great book and I understand a lot of people enjoy them, but I think that more people, both fans and nonfans alike, would rather see a Black Panther movie than a GOTG movie.
It saddens me to say this because I'm a huge fan of Marvel studios, but this is the first film they've announced where I'm not bursting at the seams in excitement. Granted I'll reserve judgement until I see the movie, but I don't think we live in a world where a talking raccoon with a gun fighting alongside a talking tree equates into a successful film property that will resonate with a wide audience.

Doubtful. If I remember correctly, Fiege has expressed his desire to bring GOTG to the screen for quite some time.

well I am happy. I cant get behind blackpanther

It's very simple:
Thanos.

Unless you flat out make a Thanos "biopic" based around Infinity Gauntlet/War/Whatever, which ain't gonna happen, what better title could you introduce and develop Thanos? I dunno, maybe a title that not only features Thanos prominently, but also is made up largely of characters whose backstory is directly tied to Thanos.....?

Hence: GOTG.
