The Avengers Guardians of the Galaxy (2014): Will tie-in with The Avengers

Clearly Drax and Gamora are going to be key figures going forward and tying into Avengers.

I really love that Marvel is pushing the edge, and in this movie they can go in an entirely different direction. This will really be their first "non-superhero" movie even though it will tie in with the rest of the MCU.

I've never read GotG so I can't say I'm too excited. I do feel like they cut in line but whatever. I'll root for it to do well.

I have never read Guardians of the Galaxy either, but seeing that concept art excited me, and I'm really pumped for this movie. I'm thinking of checking out the current run too. So, even though there could have been other properties getting the greenlight, that could have still excited me, I am very curious about this.

Honestly, I'm happy we're getting an outer space movie that actually has a cool concept coming from an awesome studio that won't really have to deal with any studio drama(Heads of studios&producers making changes nonstop to appeal to the ever-changing audience wants).

Besides, when's the last time there's been a well-received outer space opera type movie?

I'm not all that familiar with these characters (other than Nova, but it looks like he'll just have a cameo here, if anything) but the concept art looks cool. I'll go see it if it looks good. Well hell, if Thanos is in it--and it certainly looks like he will be--I'll be there at midnight.

GotG can work the same way Star Wars did, with the odder characters eventually becoming endearing parts of popular culture. Or it could crash and burn. Because this is Marvel we're talking about, I believe that it will work.

The GotG concept is one I've always loved, so for that reason I'm happy they're coming to the big screen. When I read the original series I never imagined this would happen. I have to admit that I would much rather see Adam Warlock and Vance Astro than the raccoon and the tree, however. But Disney can sell stuffed animals and toys of them (they think), so they got the greenlight. I will laugh my ass off if stores end up with millions of stuffed raccoons gathering dust, though.

Wonder of wonders, Gamorra seems to be wearing as many clothes as Star Lord. I guess Disney took a pass on presenting the audience with "half-naked green chicks" after all. :woot:

Here's my fan cast:

For those people complaining about Black Panther, there's always 2015. We don't know what Marvel has planned for that year. I'm thinking we'll see Panther in May, then Avengers 2 in late July.

Never read the comics but from a quick search it seems to me that Nova would have been more important as it basically was the comic that ran besides GotG, the characters also seem like ones that work better on comics.

What is DC going to use to answer this? Frankenstein: Agent of SHADE?

The art shoun was cool but it's difficult to see Rocket Racoon inhabit the same universe where there are terrorist rings in the 3rd world as shoun in Iron Man 1

I'm in the crowd wondering if they can actually pull this off both in terms of it being a cosmic space opera and the characters, but I really hope they can.

Is the A:EMH episode featuring GotG a good representation of the team, that's all I've seen of them.

With any movie of a fantastical nature I think the major keys to its success will be the writing and the creative direction of the film. I think a pretty close facsimile to study for Marvel would be the show Farscape which had a human cast and a cast created from Jim Henson Studios puppetry. It was a straight up Sci Fi show that merged the elements pretty well.

I don't see a problem with that. There are an infinite possibilities in the Marvel Universe unlike other comic book movie universes. It's not simplistic and dull. It's dynamic and ever changing. The Universe is a big place.

Michael Clarke Duncan voicing Groot would make me think of Atlas for the God of War video games since MCD does his voice as well.

That won't happen. I went to see Ted and even though Seth McFarlane uses the same voice as Peter Griffin from family guy i never though about peter while watching the movie.

Seriously? I saw the trailer for 30 seconds and I could ONLY think of Peter Griffin.

I hope MCD is doing OK, I read on the entertainment forum that he apparently suffered a hart attack over the weekend.

Well, DC's epic space opera should have been Green Lantern, but they really screwed that one up.

Just curious, I was talking with a friend of mine about this, and he was laughing at it because he thinks the title is really stupid.

What are your thoughts on this? A title might not seem like a big deal, but given that movies like Cowboys & Aliens and Abraham Lincoln: Vampite Hunter had titles that were widely mocked (and both turned in poor box office results) do you think that GotG could suffer the same fate?

I think it might. I think opening weekend might not be so good for this movie, to be perfectly honest. I think it's going to be word of mouth that really brings in the bank for this one. That and august is usually filled with crappy movies so this will be a diamond in the rough anyway. Same for Thor in November next year.

Personally I think it's movies that go out there like this one will that are the most interesting. I loved Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter and I hope people give that a chance on DVD. I hope that people give this a shot and come to the movies for a ridiculous good time and not the same old same old. Which is what a movie like Black Panther or Ms. Marvel would be. Just more superhero movies. This can't even be classified as a superhero flick. It just happens to be from Marvel comics. Ant-man may well be an action-comedy in the vein of Hot Fuzz and Scott Pilgrim. I'm excited that Marvel is trying new things and I really hope that it pays off. I can only watch Spider-man be retold so many times with different powers.

No, because Guardians of the Galaxy isn't a parody title. Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter is an obvious joke title. Likewise, putting Cowboys and Aliens together sounds like a joke. Where's the joke in Guardians of the Galaxy? The joke comes from the juxtaposition of two incongruous subjects. You don't normally associate cowbows with aliens, nor do you normally associate Abraham Lincoln with vampires, which is why those titles are jokes. You don't have that with guardians and galaxy. There's a galaxy and they guard it. I don't see anything incongruous about that.

I think the humor comes from the sheer old fashioned cheesiness of it. Like Masters of The Universe. I'm not sure of the word I'm looking for but it's a pretty overconfident statement with a title like that. Kind of like naming your movie "The King Of Everything". I see a lot of people saying "We're gonna go see Guardians this weekend" with a straight face but not so much "We're going to see Guardians of The Galaxy this weekend". Just uttering the latter sentence immediately makes you sound like a geek or a dork. Something that I take pride in but others may not. I honestly look forward to the cheese.

Hey, anybody else wonder if they'll keep the reality show confessional booths from the books? Those were always good for hilarious moments. :woot:
