Rocket is captain of the starship Rack 'n' Ruin, and he and his first mate Wal Russ (a talking walrus) come from the planet Halfworld, in the Keystone Quadrant, an abandoned colony for the mentally ill where the animal companions were genetically manipulated to grant them human level intelligence and bipedal body construction for many to become caretakers of the inmates. Rocket was Halfworld's chief law officer ("ranger") who protected the colony against various threats.

Could very well be different in the movie however.

Is he an actual Raccoon though ? I don't know that he is.

Yeah he's from like some planet where animals take care of people ore something weird like that it's been a looooong time since I've read up on Rocket's origin.

From Wikipedia:

"Rocket Raccoon acts as the "Guardian of the Keystone Quadrant", an area of outer space sealed off from the rest of the cosmos by the so-called Galacian Wall. Rocket was Halfworld's chief law officer ("ranger") who protected the colony against various threats.[9]"

Lol...Wal Russ

LOL Beat me to it :D

Yeah that's all from that four issue Mantlo miniseries. His best friend was a walrus, he was in love with an otter, and his frienemy was a bounty hunter rabbit

I think DnA retconned that all into hallucinations, though

I think a lot of the backstories will be changed for this and any sequel(s). Too many of the characters originate on Earth and I imagine they'll want Quill to be the only Earthling in the movies. (Unless Tony shows up :oldrazz: )

Phase 2 is getting pretty crazy already and the first film hasn't even come out yet. Marvel is really outdoing themselves. So, excited to see all of these movies.

Can we not assume that The Other is The Controller? The name "The Other" was just used as a placeholder name like "Man #1" was for Thanos. I'm pretty sure they had plans to use "The Other" again after he had such a big role in The Avengers. After all, his shtick is mind control and he gave Loki the glow stick of destiny.

I hope not. Wasn't a fan of The Other.

I thought he served his purpose and it gave fans of the character an opportunity to see him on the big screen. He was pretty much a cameo. Maybe The Controller will kill The Other for failing Thanos! :yay:

The look of the other is debatable but the dude who played him did a really good job IMO, he was def pretty creepy, I'd be cool of the controller ended up being The Other, he probable CONTROLED the Chituari ...see what I did THAR? :D

It's possible, but there is actually a character in the comics refered to as the "Other". It is one of several names this character uses, but none of them are "The Controller" as they are completely different characters. However, it wouldn't be the first time Marvel did some kind of Amalgrim thing. WhipDynamo anyone. I personally am not a fan of them doing that type of thing combining characters, but I guess we will see.

By the way here is a link about the "Other" which is an alias for "Chthon"

But how do we even know that's the character they were using in the film? I don't anyone who's worked on the film has ever commented on whether or not the character was from the comics.

Zoe Saldana in Talks to Star in Marvel's 'Guardians of the Galaxy'

Zoe Saldana is in negotiations to play the female lead in Marvel Studios’ Guardians of the Galaxy, The Hollywood Reporter has learned exclusively.

Saldana would play Gamora, the green-skinned humanoid who is the last of a species that was exterminated by a race known as the Badoon. She also happens to be a skilled assassin.

If a deal makes, Saldana will join Chris Pratt, who is playing Star-Lord, and Dave Bautista, who portraying Drax the Destroyer, in the space-set adventure movie. The superhero group also includes Groot, a giant tree-man, and Rocket Raccoon, a genetically engineered animal with a knack for guns and explosives.

James Gunn is directing the movie, which is eyeing a June production start date. Disney has set an August 1, 2014, release date for Guardians.

Saldana already has plenty of space (and tentpole) experience. She reprises her role as Uhura in Star Trek Into Darkness, which opens May 17, and will also step back into her alien skin of Neytiri for Avatar 2.

Amazing. Best possible casting.

Never thought she'd do it after Star Trek, but I guess now that JJ jumped ship all bets are off

This is so awesome!!!!!! Best possible choice for the role.

[BLACKOUT]Also, I told you guys that the actress cast as Gamora would be at least 5'7... just sayin'. Marvel casts with height in mind. Thank you for your time.[/BLACKOUT]

Shes gotta start workin out. lol. Cant imagine her as a stone cold warrior chick with a sword. But I'm sure she will do great!

Wow. That's pretty great. Like, it's one of those obvious choices that everyone fancasts, but you figure Marvel will come outta left-field (as they often wonderfully do).

I don't mind that it's obvious though, she'll do great with the role. Really excited to have this coming together. Can't wait for Rocky and Thanos's casting.

True, unless Joss Whedon or Marvel come out and say that the character in the movie was the "Other" from the comics we will never know for sure. However, in the link I posted I think the character from the movie has a pretty good resemblence to that image and his power levels would also seem to be on par with the character in the movie, so I choose to believe it was intentional for fans like us. However, if you believe it was just a random name assigned to the character "Worker #3" I can't say your wrong, because you may not be.
