Variety did an article on the GotG merchandise.
http://variety.com/2014/biz/news/guardians-of-the-galaxy-merchandise-1201207992/When signing on to create products around a summer movie, the first film in a potential new franchise is usually off limits. The titles arent yet proven at the box office and could leave companies holding piles of unsold merchandise. Theyve been burned too many times before.
But Marvel Studios and Disney have been able to do something pretty impressive with Guardians, out Aug. 1.
Walt Disney Consumer Products has inked deals with more than 50 licensees like Hasbro, Lego, Mad Engine, KIDdesigns, New Era, Rubies and Disguise who will start flooding retail shelves with merchandise starting this month.
