Guardians of the Galaxy Guardians Of The Galaxy- User Review Thread. SPOILERS!

9/10 for me. Could have used a little shelling out of the history of the other Guardians more than a couple of lines. The end fight with all the ships got a little confusing at times.

Funniest bits:

-Rocket and the leg. I haven't heard a packed theater burst out laughing that hard since Hulk threw Loki around like a ragdoll. :lmao:
- Groot piercing a bunch of Ronan's troops and throwing them around in the corridor, followed by the smile. Just short of the above one.
- Drax's compliments to his new friends, "the green ****e..."
- unusually high amount of people stayed for the credits and totally lost it at the sight of Howard, though I'm sure not many knew who he was.

The "awwwwww" bits:

-Drax petting Rocket
-baby Groot dancing. Can't wait for the gifs to appear.

Ok, just saw it. I liked it, no suprise there. But I didn't love it, and I was kinda expecting to. There were a number of awkward moments in it that I just didn't care for. The characters are for the most part well done, the sfx is top notch. The story is passable but nothing special. All in all I'm giving it an 8/10 for now but it feels more like it's somewhere in between there and a 7.5/10. I'm seeing it again tomorrow or Sunday with my brother and sister-in-law and we'll see if it improves with a 2nd viewing. But so far this year I liked CA:TWS, DotPotA and EoT better than it. It's fighting with Pratt's other 2014 film, Lego Movie for the #4 spot.

It was fantastic, and really REALLY funny. All of the characters were well-done, the action was top-notch, the performances were all really good, and the comedy to drama balance was done just right. 9/10 for me.

I'll stick to the positive here, and post my grievances in the "what you didn't like thread", but in short, it was a good flick and I had a blast watching it. Here's what I liked:

The main cast - For the most part, they were very well written and portrayed, and their interactions were delightfully entertaining.

Quill was a strong lead; I could easily see him jockeying for the spotlight with the rest of the Avengers if it ever came to that. With the breakout popularity that this movie will no doubt have, such a proposition seems very likely.

Rocket and Groot were played up almost too much in the marketing, but they really did steal the show. Easily the two most well written characters in the movie by far.

The humor was exceptional; I can't say enough about the laughs in this movie. I loved the call backs, the pop culture references (they weren't nearly as hackneyed and cliche as they could have been), the self-aware and self-deprecating wit; it was so engaging and hilarious that it really helped to elevate this movie into its own echelon.

The drama was surprisingly very effective, and there were several instances were irony or humor was used to actually enhance some of the more serious moments. The interweaving of these elements was seamless in many cases, and is definitely what made many of the character moments feel so human and relatable for me.

The SFX - I'm not sure that I can say anything about the visuals that hasn't already been said, but this was one convincingly beautiful movie. Everything from the cinematography, to the production and costume design, and the CGI was breathtaking to behold. Some of my favorite moments were the first tussle between the Guardians on Xandar, the prison break (of course), and Groot's Hulk moment (you know what I mean if you've seen the movie).

All in all, a strong debut for these characters, and they were so irresistible and charming that I'm as eager to see what they get into next as I am with The Avengers.

Man that movie was awesome

IMAX 3D didnt look as great as people made it out to be, except when stuff was coming right at you (I blinked my right eye when something pointy got close)

Of course, going to the movies always makes you feel super smart, because there are always a couple of stupid people who laugh at the most stupid ****

oh and

"no raccoon or tree were hurt during the filming" LMAo

I'm just gonna throw this out there: I liked GOTG better than The Avengers! In Avengers, most of the movie felt like watching a dull chess game, simply maneuvering all the players to the right strategic points so they'd all be in place for the grand finale; The only parts of the movie that really mattered were in the last 30 minutes or so.

With this movie, I didn't feel that at all. I was fully engaged in all parts of it as they fleshed out the characters while doing all the obligatory "I don't trust you yet but let's work on that" team building exercises they did in Avengers. At first I thought that would've been an advantage for the Avengers, but no Guardians showed you how to do it correctly.

Characters... Everyone went into this movie expecting Rocket to blow it out of the water, and he delivered everytime, and Groot was adorable. but Drax was the sleeper hit for me. I'll say he was my favorite of the group simply because I didn't expect him to be done as well as he was, everything he did was I surprise. Maybe it was the writing, maybe it was Batista's delivery, maybe both, but it just worked on all levels for me.

Gamora & Star-Lord.. both highly enjoyable and just what I expected, but nothing more; the same for Ronan, and Nebula. (and what was up with Ronan's wack face makeup? so LOL!)

Overal I think this movie did "The Avengers" better than The Avengers did so it gets a 9/10 from me.

Oh and when you heard Michael Rooker was cast, did anyone else imagine him playing something outside of his typical wheelhouse? Cause I know I did, I wanted to see some versatility from him, and all I got was "Space Merle" :( disappointed

I give it a 10 and the highest I usually ever go is 9. This film was successful at being everything it was trying to be.

2 more trips to see it for me. At least.

I cannot give it a 10 simply because I found the villains to be rather underwhelming (that seems to be a recurring trend in Marvel films). And one thing that I really don't like is when good/great actors have their talents wasted. Djimon Hounsou was almost completely wasted in his role and even Lee Pace was kind of as well (his performance was good, his character was meh).

I refused to follow the production of this film in order to not spoil the experience of watching the film in its entirety unspoiled and with minimal knowledge of the comic book mythos, and boy, did it pay off. What a wonderful film it was and I'm definitely more interested in the Guardians of the Galaxy now.

I love how the film opened with Quill's intro and then the Marvel logo. I thought it was great to change it up that way. The opening credits were also fantastic. It's rare that we get opening credits nowadays I think, and I just loved how it appeared on screen with Pratt dancing.

Usually when I see animated characters I try to imagine their voice actors performing and dubbing their lines, but I just couldn't imagine it with Rocket and Cooper really sold the character tremendously well. Seeing him in stuff like the Hangover and Silver Linings Playbook, his voice in my mind was deeper, and as Rocket it was a bit higher pitched so when he first appeared on screen it was like, "Bradley Cooper?" I think his character was the most fleshed out and developed besides Pratt. Bautista delivered the funniest moments for me with his seriousness in the face of all the human metaphors and idioms that Pratt used. He was great.

That being said, the characters were rather generic at times and even Star-Lord is the usual lovable outcast who becomes the hero in a time of need. That being said, the film is lighthearted and doesn't need to be bogged down by "Oh I was kidnapped by Aliens/They killed my family/I was experimented on/I am Groot" sappy melodrama. They were well-acted, interesting and it was a film that attempted and succeeded in capturing the essence and thrill of the science fiction genre and CBM's and it rocked. It was fun and that's what matters.

I love Gunn's use of practical effects in the film. It was very cool and just enhances the quality of the film. Brolin's acting as Thanos was great, as was Pace as Ronan. Sometimes, it just pays to see someone really evil. Like Kevin Bacon as Sebastian Shaw.

Fantastic visuals and the third act was rather stellar and emotional. The film had a lot of heart and didn't try to be something that transcended the superhero genre. It reveled in it and just had a ton of fun with being the lovable outcasts who become the heroes of the day. I think there's something elegant about how simple the film really was and at certain points it really just seemed like a live action Disney movie (which it is, but yeah). I think the kids will really dig the film and it'll be a great new franchise for Marvel and an awesome gateway through which they will expand their universe.

I felt as if the film could've had more Nova Corp and Del Toro, but the film is about the Guardians themselves and their formation. The Nova Corp and the Collector will all be explored in due time. I dug seeing the Dark Elves and the Chitauri in his collection though. There were some weird logic leaps in the characters' development and actions and it left me a bit puzzled at times, but nothing other CBMs don't have and definitely not a big detraction from my enjoyment of the film.

Great film. Definitely one of Marvel's best. And my god that post-credits stinger. I think that's my favorite one ever. Besting The Wolverine's, DOFP, and Iron Man's. I was spoiled for Thor: TDW's post-credits stinger thanks to one of the actors mentioning that he filmed with Del Toro and of course TWS's was spoiled really quickly, so I'm glad I managed to avoid them and seeing Howard the Duck was incredible. No one in my theater knew who he was and I accidentally said his name really loudly.

I don't think it bests the TWS or Iron Man in my opinion, but definitely in the upper ranks of the 10 Marvel films thus far. 7/10

70 votes and the lowest score is 6/10. Even for Hype forums that is a great result.

Sadly, I can't review this movie without also reviewing my theater experience...

There we were...most of the way through the film. I mean, we were real close to the end. Suddenly, a fire alarm goes off and the theater evacuates. We are told by the manager that all of the screens will start back where they left off (actually, he said a few seconds BEFORE they cut off, so we could have a few seconds to get back into it). The fire trucks came, situation resolved, we go back in.

While we were waiting for it to restart, I noticed a group of guys coming in with drinks and popcorn. Wait...are these NEW people?? Yes...they were. I went outside and asked the staff what was happening. I was informed that my movie would be starting back up right where it left off. Well...what about the new people? "What about them?" they asked. Well...they haven't seen the first 80 minutes or whatever...so...now they are going to see the end before they watch the rest of the film. "That's their problem" was the answer. Another employee responded "I clean the theaters, I always see the end first." I told them that the people needed to be informed...because I would NOT want to watch the end before the beginning. I suggested that maybe they could wait in the hall until our movie was over, and then when they saw us leaving they'd know it was safe to go in. They ORDERED me to not inform the new people that they were about to watch the end of the movie. They didn't want a dozen people in the hallway for 15 minutes. No lie...they flat out forbid me from telling them. I told them that I WOULD tell them, so they prepared to throw me out of the building. Someone then decided to just start the movie over at the beginning, so the trailers started playing and the movie started over from the beginning. The point is...I got THISCLOSE to being thrown out of the theater because they were INTENTIONALLY tricking people into seeing the end of the movie first.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anyway...the movie is FANTASTIC!! I went into this thinking that there was ZERO chance that I'd like it as much as Captain America 2...but it's pretty much a tie. They gave us a universe of memorable characters. I think the biggest surprises were Drax and Nebula. I assumed Drax (and Batista) would be awful...but at times he reminded me of Vultan from Flash Gordon. Karen Gillan is one of the most beautiful women in the business, and I figured it'd be a waste to cover her in make-up for a useless henchmen role...but she came off as the Boba Fett of the franchise. I expected Rocket and Groot to be the Han and Chewy. It may seem like I'm saying that it's unoriginal by comparing them to previous characters...but this is absolutely it's own thing. It's really, really, really good. Aside from me hating my local theater and all.

Amazing film all the way through!I have not liked any comic based film like this since Hellboy.Yes,Hellboy had it's flaws but..I still love it.

Starlord:A mix between Han Solo, and Andy Dwyer.Cannot think of anyone better to play this role.He had so much soul, and the fight scenes were not half bad either.

Gamora:Marry me.

Rocket:Bradley Cooper knocked it out of the park.I want an origin story with Rocket, and the other animals.

Groot:Vin Diesal was born to play large lovable creatures, and or machines. When he said "We are Groot" it made me smile ear to ear.

Drax The Destroyer:Anyone else surprised with the perfect comedic timing Bautista had?He also did a great job with the emotional parts.I want a Drax stand alone as well.

Saw it Three times in a row today.Same thing I did for Hellboy. Was not bored at all throughout any viewings:)First Two I saw it in 2D,and the Third in 3D...3D was done so well.If you get the chance go see it in 3D.

Thanos:PERFECT!

Ronan:Pretty bad ass villain who actually felt threatening.

The Collector:Another actor born for the role.

and last...Yondu:Micheal Rooker, you are a god.Need a stand alone for you as well.

James Gunn,You took a band of heroes no one really knew and turned it into one of the most fun movies I have ever been to.Cannot wait to see part 2.

Loved the movie... Bravo Marvel for taking a risk and expanding this universe further to the edge of the galaxy ;)

loved all the characters.. especially Groot, Rocket, Drax
slightly sad to see Ronan die (even though he deserved it)

thanos was great.. sitting in his rocket chair with all his majesty, and his dialogue on spreading ronan's blood was terrifying and added to the disdain he had for him...

Loved the scenes with the celestial and the history of the stones

enjoyed seeing Howard the duck.. just shows Marvel doesnt consider any properties too bizarre or too small to introduce into their universe

would love to see more of the collector's collection.. a lot of marvel goodies there for all to see

What the hell!? Find a new cinema, dude, sounds like it's utter ***** working in this one.

I give this bad boy a 9/10. Such a fun and compelling movie through and through. I knew it would be great, but not this great. Zoe Saldana hasn't been mentioned enough for how awesome she is in this.

My only gripes were that Ronan was not a memorable villain and suffered from "Malekith Syndrome" -- he looks cool and sounded cool but didn't have much to do other than stand around and shout expositional dialogue about the orb. Also, this has essentially the same plot as Thor 2, Cap, and Avengers, but it works best in this film because of the characters and the filmmaker at the helm, I think.

Loved the film, great action and a lot funnier than I expected :)

9/10

I was expecting to have a good time with it, but I wasn't expecting to fall head over heels in love like I did.

Forget it being a comic book adaptation for a moment...this is one of the most energetic, exuberant, colorful, quirky, unabashedly fun blockbusters we've had in years. It has a sort of freewheeling, effortlessly entertaining quality to it that reminded me of films like Raiders of the Lost Ark or Back to the Future or Star Wars. It's such a confident production in every regard from the performances, the humor, the designs and effects...it's all perfectly executed.

And as a comic book film it's just as impressive. It nails the characters quickly and efficiently and crams tons of Marvel lore into it's narrative without feeling overstuffed.

Ronan? Why are people having issues with him? He ROCKED. Is it the typical "needed more development" complaint? Why? You knew all you needed to know about the guy! He's not drop-dead amazing, but he is visually appealing and appropriately threatening. He's the one of the only Marvel villains so far to really have that threatening air, so for that I applaud Ronan.

Honestly I didn't have any significant issues with this movie what so ever. It's a freakin' blast with enough wit, charm and personality to fill 2 movies. I didn't think Winter Soldier would be trumped, but damn if Guardians of the Galaxy didn't just do that. Hell, after another watch it may trump Avengers.

People in the GA will probably have a problem with him because he's just a generic "nutjob" villain. There's nothing memorable or interesting about him. And comic fans will probably have a problem because they know that comic book Ronan is such a better and more interesting character than he's portrayed as being in the movie.

I thought Ronan fared better than Malekith did in Thor2. At least they let him speak English rather than have subtitles(that was a bad idea in Thor2).

The film was nothing short of amazing. I'll perhaps write up an actual review later, but for now this gets a 9.5/10 from me.

My new #1 Marvel film. A lot to live up to now after the phase 2 films.

I thought Ronan fared better than Malekith did in Thor2. At least they let him speak English rather than have subtitles(that was a bad idea in Thor2).

I agree that the subtitles was a bad move for Malekith. It was a ballsy choice, but I just didn't connect with him at all.

I'm not one of these people that as soon as they hear a film is subtitled I say 'Pah, I'm not watching that, that's boring, I don't want to read subtitles...' because Pan's Labyrinth is one of my favourite films and even Dawn of the Planet of the Apes had a lot of subtitles.

I don't know, for some reason the subtitles just didn't work for Malekith. But sometimes I agree with some people that say 'why do aliens speak in English to themselves and not their own language'. It's the same as japanese people speaking in English to themselves in Hollywood films.

It would have been nice to hear a bit of Kree spoken from Ronan though, but that's not a flaw.

10/10. Awesome movie. Full of humor, heart, and fantastic action and visuals. All the characters were likable and fun to watch. Rocket and Groot being my absolute favorites. I loved the use of 80's music in it.

I can't wait to watch it again. It was just terrific from start to finish.

Finally a movie I wait for 2 years or so and it doesn't disappoint. And usually the more I think about a movie the more I find flaws and don't like it, but this is the exact opposite. The more I think about it the more I love it.

If I have to find something wrong with GOTG it would be that Gamora and Ronan felt a little off. Ronan wasn't as two dimensional as I expected, and Gamora seemed too weak sometimes (random prisoners just holding her wrist and she can't do anything...or maybe she was just "acting" weak). But yeah, 9/10 for me and probably my favorite Marvel film, and one of my favorite comic book movies.

The Guardians of the Galaxy is the 10th movie from the ever growing imperium of Marvel Studios. Written & directed by James Gunn with Nicole Perlman as co-writer. It’s based off the comic title of the same name, by the work of Dan Abnett & Andy Lanning from their 2008-2010 run.

Star-Lord (Chris Pratt) is the legendary Outlaw, or is he? Paired with misfits like the bounty hunters Rocket Raccoon & Groot (Bradley Cooper & Vin Diesel), Drax the Destroyer (Dave Bautista) & the assassin Gamora (Zoe Saldana), you have a group of outlaws becoming the heroes.

Each character gets defined; with moments to shine, hilarious jokes, background development & setting up for a characterization arc. You’ll relate to these characters because the actors deliver solid performances. Vin Diesel has a single line to say, but he delivers those lines perfectly with each given scene, added with awesome moments, making him an audience favorite. Bradley Cooper & the CGI-animation on our furry little friend Rocket gets the most devilish grin on an adorable raccoon ever. You’ll just love to see the mayhem he creates & giving Boba Fett the run for his money.
Drax the Destroyer, who begins as a slight bore, gains impeccable character growth, which will lead to more spacious intriguing character arcs, I wish would have had a better fight choreographer for Dave Bautista’s hand to hand combat scenes, but Drax definitely gets one of the best laugh out moments of the movie.

Gamora is a slight disappointment, from the world’s most dangerous woman; she suffers heavily under women in distress tropes & gets rescued too many times by our leading male hero. Luckily, these little nuisances are forgettable at the end of its day. You’re just here to laugh, don’t take this film too serious from its basic script.
Chris Pratt, our main hero who hasn’t act as lead in blockbuster movies before, nails it. Charismatic & is a genuine heartfelt dick-head, who was trained in the art of *****é by Yondu (played by your favorite thug Michael Rooker). Star-Lord is freaking awesome, his combat style is both clever & fun to watch. He’s definitely up there with Robert Downey Junior when it comes to charm levels.

With the only memory left of Earth is his Mother & a Sony Walkman with his personal mix tape of Awesomeness, James Gunn enhances the movie with pop culture sweetening jokes and great bits of musical blast from the past. Puma Swede, Michael Jackson & the Jackson Five, David Bowie, Redbone, it’s just so beautiful.

Story motivated by a magical MacGuffin, another Infinity Stone to build up the ongoing story of Marvel Cinematic Universe, with yet another one-dimensional villains to oppose our heroes; Ronan the Accuser (Lee Pace), & his acolytes Nebula (Karen Gillan) & Korath (Djimon Hounsou) but look. You’re not here to care about the most basic adventure to save the world plot from more one-note villains Marvel is duking out. You’re here to experience cinema! You’re here to laugh, cheer & fell in love with each of these *******s.

The Guardians of the Galaxy will return & so we will us.

PS. Hey kids! Did anyone notice Lloyd Kaffman had a cameo in this movie?!
