Guardians of the Galaxy Guardians Of The Galaxy- User Review Thread. SPOILERS!

Well JJ Abrams has even more to live up to now. If it doesn't match or top Guardians, then wel...

Also why are people unclear about Ronan's motivations and why he hates Xandar? He said it about 5 times in the movie. He hates them the same way Israeli's hate Palestinians. He's basically a religious zealot who has seen countless family members die in the war, only for them to sign a peace treaty all of a sudden.

Nebula's motivations were clear too. Thanos, right in front of her, said Gamora was his favourite. She's obviously got daddy issues. Maybe she just wanted to see someone piss her dad off too.

Saw it last night.

Wow. Just wow.

What an amazing film. Marvel did it again.

Massive plaudits to James Gunn and the entire cast and crew, they have established yet another top quality movie franchise.

Rocket and Groot were so cool! Thought the entire team was great though, loved Star Lord!

One of the best Marvel films yet!

9/10

I thought that this movie was underwhelming, but entertaining. I think that I might have had my hopes up way too high due to all the good word of mouth that I have heard about this movie. I hated that they went the alien route with Drax (how boring, generic, and unoriginal that idea was) and that he wasn't a human who was reborn in a super powered android body. I hated that the Nova Corps didn't have any powers (they were basically the outer space/cosmic version of SHIELD complete with their own Coulson type of character). I hated that Yondu was basically Merle (from THE WALKING DEAD TV series) in blue body paint and that he didn't have his huge red fin mo hawk (I did like that he could control his arrow without having to fire it from a bow). I'm glad that they made the movie version of Peter "Star-Lord" Quill a happy go lucky, humorous, upbeat, and very likeable rogue instead of the unlikeable emo jerk that he originally was when he first appeared in the comics, but I HATED that he didn't have his Element Gun. I liked the music, special effects, action, and humor. I give this movie a 7/10.

113 votes and counting, and still the lowest rating is 6/10.

Is that a record on these forums?

Far too few things to complain about with this movie. Acting , Set pieces , action sequences all were top notch and still had those moments when you just wanted to go
Awww!
9.5 / 10 and thirsty for more!

I think that this might be one of those rare movies where even those who either didn't enjoy that much or had several problems with it, still found it overall entertaining and fun. If Drax had his comic book human back story and powers, and if Quill had his Element Gun, I would up my score from a 7/10 to a 9/10. Hell, if in the sequel Quill gets his Element Gun and Drax is revealed to a human from Earth reborn in a new body and given a power upgrade, I would up my score for this movie to a 9/10.

You do realise that the more we marvel over the fact that no one has given this a 1/10 rating, the more likely we are to invoke a troll, like Candyman, to appear and smack one on there.

This certainly seems to be the case. There are those contrarians out there but very very few of them.

I admit i mainly knew about The Guardians of the Galaxy by reading their character bio's in
The Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe volumes over the years, but this film boldly introduces them and makes each character unforgettable.GOTG gives you just enough backstory to the characters to establish a foundation in which you care about them.Chris Pratt is great as Peter Quill/Star-Lord a combination of Indiana Jones,Buck Rogers and Luke Skywalker. If Quill is Skywalker then Rocket Raccoon(voiced by Bradley Cooper) is definitely Han Solo and Groot (voiced by Vin Diesel) is definitely Chewbacca. The Guardians also include the assassin Gamora (Zoe Saldana) and the revenge seeking Drax the Destroyer(Dave Bautista)
The story is pretty basic but there is great dialogue and one liners galore as they try to attain a powerful orb for different reasons.Pratt is great as Quill,a character that is always on,even when he's sincerely heroic,he's always working another angle.Bautista is also quite good as the tough but literal dead panning Drax.Saldana is great as usual, she can likely do these tough action heroine roles in her sleep by now.Rocket and Groot wow through great voice work and CGI,they actually made me care about digitally made characters.
The only minor weakness the film has is the villain.Ronan the Accuser (Lee Pace if your not watching him in AMC's Halt and Catch Fire you are missing out!!) is pretty much one note and i wish he had been more menacing.
Director James Gunn brilliantly brings this section of the Marvel Universe to life along with some great co writing by Nicole Perlman. It's a part of the Marvel Universe i want to see more of on the big screen...hopefully sooner than later.
What a fun movie!!!!
Scale of 1-10 a 9

Sometimes when you get one person rating it 1/10, that speaks more volumes than no one rating it that low. However, even the trolls have to admit this was a pretty damn awesome movie!

She also said that Thanos was the one who turned her into a cyborg.

9/10.

this movie was so good. soooooooooooooooooogood.:lmao::bow:

if Nebula and Gamora had more to do and were better characters this would be a perfect 10/10 movie. Ronan was a boring villain. but this is Marvel. its in their contract to have bad villains. so i learned to accept it.

I gave it an 8

Pros
Character interactions and team building
Humor
Special effects
Cinematogrophy

Cons
Basic story/plot
Familiar 3rd act
Underdeveloped villains (easily addressed in the sequel, really hope [BLACKOUT]Ronan[/BLACKOUT] isn't dead for good)
Lots of spoken exposition

It's not in the top tier MCU movies for me
But it is amongst the top of the second tier
"B-Squad leader", if you will

Okay, so I saw this on Saturday night and I loved it wayyyy more than The Avengers.

The film had heart and genuine touching moments like Groot's sacrifice and plenty of humor. The only negatives were the villains (including Ronan) and a few corny nonsensical scenes. The friendship between the Guardians was rushed too. Other than that, it was a fantastic CBM.

9/10

Ehh, I liked Ronan. He was no Joker or Loki but I thought he had some really good badass moments. He's what Malekith could have been if they didn't make Malekith such a p***y. That necksnap scene was sweet. I was hoping someone would kill that guy.

I'd rank this right up there with the Avengers as Marvel's best. 9/10

What really makes this movie standout, to me, was being able to maintain the consistent Marvel tone but without the benefit of the characters having a solo movies to flesh out their backstories. Marvel continues to make brave choices in developing their cinematic universe and this is easily their most ambitious project and they nailed it.

I liked all the characters with the exception of Ronan, he was a little one dimensional. I enjoyed the after credit scene but I was disappointed that it didn't really tease future movies, unless we are going to see a reboot of Howard the Duck. I wish they gave us peek at the next step in Thanos's plan.

I thought Rocket and Groot stole show. I hope they use GotG2 to delve deeper into all their back stories. I assume that the next movie will address Quill's father, and hopefully Marvel will use it as an opportunity to flesh the orgins of the rest of the team with a little more detail.

I assume we haven't seen fully powered Nova Centurion yet, so I also look forward to seeing Sam or Richard in the sequel.

Great movie!

this movie i good on another level. people around the world are wondering how this movie was greenlight and not destroyed in the cutting room. hollywood producers hate movies like this. yet they are the best ones who everyone likes. GOTG is liked by everyone. on every forum its getting 4 or 5 stars.

how could somone not like it? it has sad moments. but not EMO momenst. no depressed moments that are trying to manipulate us. 100% honest emotions that feel reel.

the soundtrack alone makes this movie one of the best of the last 5 years.

Guardians of the Galaxy is one of, if not THE BEST, Marvel Cinematic Universe movies to date. I just about loved every single aspect of it.

Pros:

  • The characters and characterizations
  • The music
  • The action and special effects
  • Thanos's scene. I love how they did not need to build up his appearance and how is short scene already has me believing this guy is the MCU's biggest bad.
Cons:

  • Ronan the Accuser should have had more backstory or development, but he was still a good villain overall.
I'm still trying to decide if I liked GotG or CA:TWS better, but all that matters is both of Marvel Studio's films hit it out of the park.

9/10

i think James Gunn was so good in GOTC that he came close to Spielberg. this guy knows how to direct actors. and so many good comedic action scenes that were at the same time character moments.

i bow down.

I disagree that the villain needs more development. I don't need to know the detailed back story and in-depth motivations.

- Darth Vader was bad-ass in Star Wars (1977). We were told he was evil, and that's all we needed to know. Of course the plot thickened with the sequel, but still you never understood his motivations for crushing the rebellion.

- Nero in Star Trek (2009) was developed no further than Ronan. Nero was a satisfactory villain.

- Die Hard: Do we care why Hans Gruber is theiving?

- I'm getting tired of Loki's little brother complex. We know he hates his dad and his brother. Enough already.

- I don't care about the motivations of Hitler or Osama. But I would have been greatful for a Marvel hero to give them a butt kicking. And I'd pay to see it.

Yea, the great thing about this movie is that whilst the plot is formulaic, the story is completely driven by characters. And it all feels natural and earned.

Action scenes happen because of something a character does and it just feels right. Like the scene on Knowhere being because Drax got drunk and called out Ronan for a show down. Perfect.

And i feel the Guardians eventually realizing they have to stick together was natural and made sense with their individual character arcs.

is it true that ship's name milano is from Alyssa Milano ? that Peter had a crush on Alyssa from Who Is The Boss ?

well, why would he name his ship milano instead? after the city, the soccer club? alyssa milano is the most logical option out of these for a male who left earth as a 9 year old in 88
