Amazing how Marvel comics in the 90's rose to $2.95. Nowadays, they demand an extra 4 pennies.
Warlock's new powers are vague but it appears DnA want them to be connected to magic, which makes some sense as none of the other characters are magical. Considering he used to be powered by the cosmic Soul Gem, maybe his body adapted to it's loss by trying to make him have some effect over souls via his own body, which could loosely be considered magic. I haven't minded it. Warlock and Phyla stumbled in AC but are much stronger characters here; maybe DnA just needed experience with 'em.
Vance Astro is pretty cool so far, although I am not looking forward to the SI tie-in. The "betrayed from within" for a team book is so obligatory, especially within the first 6 issues, it seems.
The hard numbers from ICv2 note that the first issue debuted at 36k (and at #61 of the Top 100), which isn't bad considering NOVA is currently selling at about 28k. I am guessing the "Annihilation Era Space Audience" may be akin to the old RUNAWAYS audience, which usually held steady at about 25-26k for years. Nothing to brag about, but enough to keep the books going. However, around my local area, I noticed a few shops sold out of GOTG #1 very quickly. I barely chased down the first issue in Brooklyn. So demand for the series was higher than some shops may have anticipated. I will be curious to see how #2 fared.
