Fantasy Guy Ritchie Directing Disney's Aladdin

On the EW cover. Her midsection is skin tone colored, I guess to imitate the bare midriff from the animated original.

I think that's a poor assumption to make. For one thing it's not the color of skin. There are actual dresses that attempt to do what you are talking about and they dont look like that. And if they wanted to give the impression of it being bare skin they wouldnt have stuck jewels and embroidery on that section and wouldnt have made the fabric so thick.

I dont think they were trying to give the impression of a bare midriff.

Disney has no problem with showing skin.

Naomi Scott doesn't quite look like Princess Jasmine for some reason. I don't think they got the hairstyle quite right, at least on the EW cover.

Also, Jafar being handsome here makes PERFECT sense. Remember, in the original movie he's constantly trying to hypnotize the Sultan into agreeing to let him him marry Jasmine, so it'd make sense Jafar would be attractive regardless of age. He certainly wasn't ugly in the original movie if I recall.

Well, actually, Jafar was mostly hypnotizing the Sultan to get what he needed to find the lamp. He had no interest in marrying Jasmine until he realized that it would give him a path to the throne. And they did draw him in a caricatured way that made him look not particularly attractive.

The movie looks just OK but it's still early. I think with Jafar they're going for the Loki 'sexy bad guy' approach. Hopefully he's still repellent enough to not get the audience rooting for him over Aladdin!

I don't know about trying to look like bare skin, per se, but I definitely think it's meant to evoke the original outfit.

Yeah they may have been trying to pay homage to the animated outfit without actually copying the outfit.

Paramount is sending Disney a thank you letter.

Will Smith's Genie is taking the heat off of Sonic The Hedgehog.

I think it’s funny how people are really mad that Aladdin and Jasmine are covered up. A little disturbed how they sexualised a cartoon too.

I’m all for expression and sex, but this is a family picture...

This is a strange thing to say, considering the general nature of 4 quadrant films.

[looks at where they went with Harley Quinn...]

I'm fine with not oversexualizing Aladdin and Jasmine.

Now Jafar, go crazy tumblr.

I’m just saying there are more pressing matters about this movie rather than just if Jasmine has her midriff or if Aladdin has a open vest.

I’m frankly pissed by the lack of Iago. He was the best character in the movie next to Genie.

The cartoon wasnt?

Not gonna comment on Genie since that’s not his main form, and Aladdin and Jasmine look fine, but why must Jafar be so attractive? Why? If there’s one character in Disney canon I never, ever wanted to find attractive, it was Jafar.

That isn't what you said though. You seem to be implying that sex has no place in a "family film". That has never been the case.

I blame Rian Johnson and Swolo. Also I totally believe it isn't his final form now. But only because of the reaction.

Maybe its because I'm a guy but Jafar's level of attractiveness wasnt the first thought that came to my mind.

As far as his attractiveness is concerned, evil doesnt only come in ugly forms. Jafar is a guy that likes to entice, confuse, enthrall...him being handsome seems fitting. I wouldnt be surprised if this Jafar is even charismatic and likeable on the surface. Jafar is essentially an megalomaniacal conman.

I don't get why Jafar needs to be ugly. Unless they're going to re-create the kiss scene.
