Fantasy Guy Ritchie Directing Disney's Aladdin

if you pay will smith a will smith paycheck you show will smith in the first look and not the cgi blue version. it has nothing to do with unfinished effects. they plan this for months.

I'm a dude but I think it just looks weird having the hero in this type of story be the average looking one. Jasmine looks way out of his league.
I wouldn't go that far. The guy who plays Aladdin is far from average. He's very attractive. Besides, it's not always about looks! I've dated some super ordinary looking guys because they made me laugh and had that something special (well at least initially, then they all turned out to be rats but hey ho)

I'm okay with a hot Jafar. Makes him seem like more competition for Aladdin than some unattractive, older dude.

I get that. But it's not necessarily an "either or" situation.

They could've easily had released stills of human disguise Genie and the regular blue one.
I don't believe the unfinished effects excuse

I mean, they don't always reveal everything at once. Obviously, there's great anticipation to see the blue Genie and we will get that. Sometimes people just need to consider every option and that studios like build up hype over a period of time leading up to the release.

If the lead has to step in and clear up the confusion after the first look Launch something went very wrong.
I mean, it says it right in the article though; people just don't read further than a title...

Do you think they'll be going for region-specific accents?

Yeah they don't have to reveal everything at once but you only get 1 chance at a first impression. And them not showing genie as blue messed that up. I'm sure now in the trailer hell be blue

Put your best foot forward

I think this is 100% correct. Not to put too fine a point on it but the leads in this films film don't hold a candle to Smith's star power. He is one of the few genuine movie stars left who's beloved internationally.

Aladdin is my all time favorite Disney movie and I don't see why everyone is outraged. Y'all need some chill pills.
That’s how I’m feeling. I don’t think any of the characters look out any more outrageous than Beast or the enchanted objects in Beauty and the Beast.

So the lesson is that funny guys are secretly pricks. :o

Part of me kind of wanted Genie to just be Will Smith, just as proof Ritchie was firmly doing things differently with this movie. And to avoid placation for the certain fans who hated BATB for being "the same" and then balked at Aladdin being "different".

"Same" is fine as long as they succeed at it and don't fail at every turn like BATB did.

What we really need is a trailer to show off all the slow motion you know Ritchie is dying to do.

I don’t think people were mad at BaTB for being the same more like it made unnecessary changes, toned down the beast and his tantrums, felt the need to explain things that didn’t need explaining, and cast a girl that couldn’t really sing as well as needed.

BatB is an obvious BO success. But that's different than arguing its quality. I would agree that the movie is not great and that the animated version is better in almost every regard. Since seeing it with the GF in the theater, I have not had the urge to revisit that movie.

Disney's recent live action adaptations honestly range from bad to just okay (in regards to the remakes of their classic cartoons I mean). None of them wowed me. Even Mary Poppins Returns (which I know is a sequel and not a remake) was just solid. I think my favorite of the newer versions was The Jungle Book. But Jungle Book managed to be different from the cartoon without being stupid (unlike say, Malificent). That all said, I think the one I have the most hope for right now is Dumbo. If Tim Burton brings his A-game, that might be great.
