Fantasy Guy Ritchie Directing Disney's Aladdin

From Empire:

Dont necessarily agree with this...but I do kinda see where they're coming from. I always thought Jasmine was badass...and her story wasn't soo much about her finding the love she wanted...but more of wanting to be respected as a person as opposed to being married off like a commodity.
On one hand I agree she didn't have a compelling goal. On the other hand, she wasn't all that concerned about finding love.

I love how he seemingly confirmed that Lion King is a straight adaption of the hand drawn movie but the hook is “you cannot tell that these animals aren’t real”...
I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again a problem with these “remakes” is that they kinda make the animated films look like nothing more than high budgeted proof of concepts, and that is wrong. But like a fool I’ll still be there, thank god for AMC A-List.

Let's say Lion King is very close to being a shot for shot remake, how the hell do you properly critique that?

Talk about the effects, compare the performances, that's where I'd start. I'd for sure also criticize how lazy a cash grab it is just like I did for Beauty and the Beast though.

That's all you could critique.

Judge the special effects, the cast and their performances, and evaluate any changes or discrepancies that are made to the story if you're writing about it in the context of the animated version. It may surprise you to know that a lot of people actually haven't seen many of the cartoon versions of these movies (using myself as an example) and it is indeed possible to judge them on their own merits as their own standalone films while simultaneously acknowledging that the reason for their existence is an obvious cash grab for Disney.

I'm still looking forward to this. Not as much as Lion King, but more than Dumbo. I'm not expecting it to be great, but I love the animated movie so who knows.

It only just now hit me that every Disney movie coming out this summer is literally a remake of their animated library. That says something.

Artemis Fowl says hello.

Though it probably will suffer the same fate at the box office as Wrinkle in Time.

Yeah the fact that I haven't heard anything outside of the teaser trailer says it all.

Most likely they are regrouping after the horrified reaction to Smith's genie look.

2019 is going to be absolutely insane for Disney. The live-action department is releasing Dumbo, Aladdin, Lion King, Maleficent 2 and Artemis Fowl. Lucasfilm is dropping Episode 9 while Marvel has Endgame. The animated side and Pixar have Frozen 2 and Toy Story 4. Then you have Disney+ coming out later this year. Absolutely phenomenal. This should be a year to remember.
