If you're speaking on the 90's animated series, then no she wasn't. Though even though she wasn't, that didn't stop the writers from using her death scene in the comics, only with Mary Jane as a replacement. What made that idea worse in the end is the fact that the "death" scene, involving Mary Jane is heavily censored to the point that you can't even say she "died" even though that was the obvious intention.
imagine the 9 year old watching this show on saturday morning, traumatized by the death of a cartoon character, and the failure of his favourite superhero. no one is dying on this show.
