The Dark Knight Harvey Dent/Two Face Thread

Yeah, but it's at least physically possible to dress up like a bat or clown.

Again, I did think Two-Face looked cool, but the way he just casually walked around with half his face freshly burned away wasn't the most realistic part of the film.

I understand what you're saying. It's all just relative to Nolan's world so it plays out perfect imo.

How could two face even be casual about walking around with wounds that bad? IMO Not possible.

Cause he didn't have a choice, maybe? Or maybe he could just run around constantly screaming "OH MY GOD HALF MY FACE IS GONE"

A.Two Face is missing all of his left cheek and the majority of his left lips. With injuries like that there is no way possible that he wouldn't have a speech impediment.

B.Two Face only has one eyelid. Without an eyelid his left eye in about a minute it would start to cause him harm over time he would go blind in that eye and the actual eyeball would begin to deform.

C.Some movements Two Face makes are physically impossible to make with the missing muscles/injuries he has.

Thank goodness this was a movie then. Cause if we were to actually see that, it wouldn't be anywhere near as cool.

Eckhart did a great job in both roles. He's gonna go undersung, which is a shame since he's as good as Bale is here.

If the rumors are true, he will get the third movie to be the bell of the ball.

That would be a cop-out. Dent's story was a personal one, and Batman dealing with a city that might always hate him is far more interesting.

Well I think the beginning would be about a city that hates him and the second part would be about the cities realization that he is their true savior.

They can do that in a different way than bringing Dent back, and Nolan would probably never consider it.

Anyone else here have little bit of a problem with how Two-Face's burnt side of his suit looked? Something about the way it looked bothered me. It just didn't look burnt to me, but more like there was purple spakel covering it. It wasn't a big deal, I just noticed each time I saw Two-Face that his suit looked a bit stiffish on his left side. ??? Opinions?

It would've been way too distracting if Eckhart tried to convey some sort of speech impediment while talking. I think it would've taken away most of the performance.

I think there's lots of problems with bringing Two-Face back. For one, I thought it seemed more plausible that someone with those injuries could function briefly...much like Dent did...may be a few days at most? If someone were to live longer, they would start to have some serious infections...

Secondly, Two-Face was bent on revenge...and he executed that vengence upon those responsible for what happened to him and Rachel. If Nolan brought him back, what would he do? Become the Taffy-Face we all know and love from Batman Forever robbing the Second National Bank of Gotham? I hope not.

The more I think about it, the more I can accept The Joker and Two-Face not returning for another film. It's about more than Two-Face probably being dead, or having to recast The Joker. Just think about it: what could you possibly do in another film - with either character - that wouldn't feel like a diminishing return? Both characters just had phenomenal journeys in this film.

EDIT: My 10,000th post! w00t w00t!

I kinda feel the same way too, especially with Two-Face. I wouldn't want him to become a standard, cliche bad guy. Now I'm sure if Ledger were alive, Nolan and co. could've probably written an awesome extension of his character in a third film...but with him gone, it would feel too forced in bring in another actor...it would also stretch the suspension of disbelief that the Joker could continue to terrorize the city unstopped after already being apprehended by Batman. Imo, a better idea for the third film would be to bring in fresh villains...with may be a passing reference or nod to the Joker being locked in Arkham, and/or prosecuted.

Two-Face was brilliantly played and the special effects looked frighteningly real. I only jumped at two points in the movie. The fake Batman hitting the window and Harvey suddenly screaming at Gordon in the hospital.
Although I was surpised at how my emotions changed towards him. I went from pitying this guy to thinking just how self absorbed he was.
He lost Rachel, big deal. No reason to hold a gun to a little boys head.

By no means did I want Two-face to have a speech impediment. Im just saying he would have one if it was played out more realistically. I think it would have been downright horrendous if they gave him a speech impediment.

exactly small references would be nice if they continue

thats whats great about two face. he feels he has lost more than anyone else, and he wont stop until he gets what he believes is true justice

AARON ECKHART is TWO-FACE!!!

Oh and I love this movie!

agreed most definitely the best by far

well he kinda did when he yelled and if you listened his voice was bit deeper and angrier than when he would casually talk earlier on in th film

Ok I just watched this again. Pay very close attention to the second shot of Two-Face lying on the ground in the end, particularly his stomach. There is definitely a slight pulse or breathing motion going on there. I'm 100% certain.

Now I don't know if this is an indication that Two-Face is in fact alive or whether it's a flaw in Eckhart's performance, but he is definitely breathing.

Look for it.

Edit: Damn it, I posted in the wrong thread.

nstead of taking that route, what if The Dark Knight introduced Dent, showed his White Knight pursuit of justice, and ended with his fall and the rise of Two Face? Would that have totally bankrupted the point of the movie? Would that have left Harvey in place for a powerful sequel dealing with his role as an underworld boss different from the previous Falcone/Maroni mobsters? Does his death rob Nolan of a great character on which to base a subsequent narrative? Does it rob Batman of one of his greatest villains with which to have a more dedicated outing the next time?

Yes. Yes, oh God, yes.

...how did they do the makeup effects for Two-face? very creepy and true to the comics..

too bad they didn't keep him alive for a sequel...
