Why "try to like something" that isn't right?? Better off to stand by your own convictions, friend, rather then follow like sheep. Just look at this>>:supes: <<big, bright and proud!!! Now visualize what Singer's giving us. Donner brought us a comic icon come to life. Singer is giving us his own "personal" version of what "he" thinks Superman should be and not what The Man Of Steel has been created to be. Alas, the mindless masses shall shell out the bucks either way, just like they did on that "second rate" FF film, so what's the sense anymore? Spider-Man's turned into a unmasked & un-witty mute. Doctor Doom's turned into a mindless Donald Trump "with super=powers"??? And now our beloved Superman resembles a power ranger.

eh, it's not perfect, but there's not much we can do now...

I don't think you're being very fair, connecting Superman Returns with those crapfests, just because of a costume. I mean, look at Spider-Man. That costume rocked. It's his character that sucked. Doctor Doom wasn't crappy because of his costume, either. To say Superman will be crappy because of a costume is stupid IMO.

And how does Superman resemble a Power Ranger?

I agree. Superman definitely does NOT resemble a power ranger with the new suit. Those suits were made cheaply, and extremely bright. Singer's suit is the complete opposite of that

Bah, the new suit is not true to the comics...nor is it that much of an improvement. The embossed S isn't a problem---I'd say the texture of it is a bit generic, though.

The shades of red and blue aren't so bad...but I bet they could've made the red a tiny bit brighter.

The neckline is WAy too high. It makes it seem more like a wetsuit this way.

The shorts ride a little too low.

And last but not least, his hair is WAY TOO LONG for Superman. If they'd cut the sides and top down a bit, not only would it be more comic-book accurate, but he'd look more like a MAN and less of a BOY. I'm sorry, for as chiseled as Routh is, he looks like Superboy, not Superman.

All that aside, OF COURSE I'm there opening night. :)

Not sure about Routh looking like Superboy, but I do agree he would look better like that.

what are you kidding? he looks like an older version of John Haymes Newton!

the fact that he looks liek him makes me think of Superboy

I think we are confusing our definitions. When you hear Superboy, you think of the actor in the TV show, when I hear Superboy, I think of a 19-year old Supes. Is that right?

Yeah, I'm talking about a young looking Superman. More boyish than man. And it's a shame, because Routh is pretty ripped, and a short haircut would give it that extra edge.

Not to mention shorter hair is more "boy scout" than the poofy 70's 'do.

I think Routh's biggest problem appearance-wise is he has sortof a smooth face, with little definition. In some cases he looks more manly because he manages to get the right facial expression down, and in others, when he's more relaxed, appears more boyish. For example, his appearance in some of the pictures where he's being directed(excluding the one where he's standing on the ledge of that building looking down at Singer) or preparing for a stunt.

I gotta say though, in most of his appearances post-Superman Returns, he really looks the part. He even appears to be a bit bigger.

This is ture but sadly did not have to be.

YThere are misses with the suit - the collar, 'S' shiled for sure that are visually wrong. Singer must know that but I assume he is stubborn. My way or the highway. That the suit remains so disliked after all this time by so many tells you it is wrong.

Look at the GC/SDuperboy suit. Looks far, far better than Singer's suit.

Its why I think he really did not care as much about the Supoerman/Luthor/heoric/mythic side of the film.

Singer paid all kinds of attention to Lois and Clark's wardrobe but not near enough to that of Supes.

It may look totally different once we see it on screen, but it still looks brownish purple. He's supposed to wear red. :down

The S on the belt keeps drawing my attention to his crotch and that makes me uncomfortable.....

Everything else I can live with if the movie is well made.

Meh, now that I look at it after seeing that other pic, these new colors look kinda brownish. I don't care anymore though. never really did. I can accept it.

When I was a kid I loved it...but now days it seems a little silly. Thats why I think Superman needs a director like Peter Jackson to direct the movie. I think he could make it work....and I think maybe the current director can...at least I am hoping.

While I do not agree with everything you are saying here I do concour we are getting Singer's version and that scares me more than the suit which I am just not to fond of either.

Singer is doing the same thing he did to the X-men movies which while good could have easily been fantastic had we not had to get Singer's version and instead gotten a truer to the comic's version with you know Storm flying etc etc....

I think Singer's problem with his visions is that he tries to make comic book movies realistic and tries to make them for non comic book fans.
Why he doesn't try to make the comic book hero like they are in the comic book I have no idea.
I do not buy his trying to make comic book movies realistic that's bs to me.
The only comic book hero's that should be semi realistic in the movies are the non super powered ones IMO anyways, It is an injustice to the comic book heros otherwise like a non flying Storm....

And while I have a few issues with Rami and Nolan for there versions of Spiderman and Batman.
I think they tried to stay truer to the hero's than Singer does and thats why I think they were better movies than the X-men movies IMO anyways because they tried to make a comic book movie for comic book fans.

I disagree on X-Men.

It bothers me that, usually, I soften up on some issues over time (organic webbing & goblin aromor, for example.)-but I've had the better part of a year to get used to this suit & I still think it looks horrible. What looks equally bad to me is the poster; the colors just don't work.

One problem with that. Superman is not just a comic book. Its a radio serial, T.V series, Film series etc...

Singer has said he is not making a comic book movie. He is making a Superman film.

This should be the Suit!!!!!!!

Sorry, Superman doesn't look right in a rose pink and baby blue.

Well he sure does in Superman The Movie, Superman II, and all the comics.

My only gripe with this suit is that it's missing the yellow symbol on the back of the cape.

[Reeve's] suit wouldnt work today. it looks cheaply made and like a costume you could rent for halloween.

I agree. The materials would have to be changed, but what was good about the Reeve suit were the proportions of all the elements: specifically, the size of the \S/, the length of the cape, height of the boots, and the way the cape attaches to the neckline. These positives have been lost on the new suit.

now the new suit is much more realistic (even though it's superman) in it's materials, it's presentation.

Yeah, more "realistic" like the real Superman, right? :) Just kidding; I think what you meant was more believable - i.e., if Superman were real, this is the kind of material his suit might be made of. And there I'd agree. But changing the material doesn't require screwing up the proportions.

it has to be proportionate to routh. everything is very proportioned with his build. a huge "s" would cover up his chest and look silly ala alex ross.

I think you've got that exactly backward. The suit makes Routh look more lanky than he actually is, rather than powerful. In my opinion the shield is the main problem: a larger shield (more in terms of how broad, than of how long) would give the impression of Routh having more of a V shape to his torso. (Plus the gardening boots hafta go.)

This could've been so much grander in appearance, but Singer blew it.
