Here's a great actor, the best to play the role. But something just isn't quite right....

I know you think you are making a good point here, but dude, Routh is no where near that skinny. Compared to Routh, Reeve was a twig at that time. This is Routh:

See the difference? (No, the "foam" has nothing to do with this.) Routh is more than big enough for the part.

Don't bother showing me shots of Routh in his rubber suit as proof how mighty he is, obviously padding counts. It's there.

I'm a grown man, whose unimpressed with Routh's size because it's unimpressive. Maybe to smaller people, like children, it's good enough. Lucky them.

It's because of Routh's physique that he requires padding. It's because of the padding that we have the collar. The collar is what makes Routh look like he's wearing a super-man costume, IMELHO.

You show me where I said Superman doesn't need muscles. Guess what, you can't because I didn't. I said he doesn't need HUGE muscles. Perhaps your overriding and unending immense anger for the world clouds your rationality and reading comprehension to where you fail to realize that saying he doesn't need muscles and saying he doesn't need HUGE muscles are TWO DIFFERENT THINGS. Of course, for you to insinuate that I believe Superman should be skinny speaks volumes for your intelligence anyway.

I have heard that Ritalin can cause confusion in people as an unfortunate side effect, so maybe that explains your inability to understand what I'm saying, despite me repeating it and making it so clear that a 2 year old would understand.

But you're right, I did say you said muscles when you said huge muscles, that was a mild over sight. To me, I don't see much difference between Routh and screen test CR.

^ LOL. Oldguys comment did seem a little childish. "I'm a grown man, all you young whippersnappers don't know what you are talking about." sorta thing. Being grown (physically? Mentally?) is what effects value judgements on people's size. I'm 25. Technically I'm a grown man. Not old, but mature enough. And Routh is big even without his padding. What's the big deal? All I care about is if its going to look good on screen.

Why do I get the feeling that this is insecurity rearing its head? Who here actually goes to the gym at least three times a week or more, and works their ass off, eating a strict diet, etc. etc. to look like an adonis? From that comment, Oldguy should be ripped to all get out.

If he was a good actor, yes. But from what I heard, he really wasn't. And besides, we do not need a Superman who looks like a weightlifter. Superman doesn't need huge muscles.

"..during that time period..." I wasn't refering to the modern age where we don't need a huge Superman as the comics portrays. I know what you'll say, George Reeves wasn't huge and his Superman was well received. I agree with this, but I believe that because the special effects and stories weren't what they are now a more muscular Superman could have worked.

That photo of Routh shows he's pretty big guy. I think Routh is fine for a modern age Superman, and I think he is fine for the role. That being said, I don't think Routh reached his potential in muscle mass.

well Christain Bale regained his already muscular build for Batman Begins, and then some. So if an actor was really dedicated, im sure vast muscle mass would be easy. But hes fine i guess, but it makes you wonder without supermans powers a teenager could kick that ass [kind of like Superman 2].

Yup. Give him five years of consistent training (or maybe three for the sequel, heh) and I'd like to see how much mass he can put on. He looks like he leans toward ectomorphism, which can be trouble for keeping on mass. I wonder if he'll stay in training between movies (which would be wise, IMHO).

Bale was phenomenal in gaining all that weight so quickly. And he said he doesnt even like doing it, he just goes to the gym because he has to!
