Didn't even know the Mountain had appeared in the show since season 1

he was in a couple of scenes with Tywin in season 2... Other then Tywin vaguely saying 'Clegane', I don't think many people caught it.

And Arya and the other kids mentioned him as the Mountain in Harrenhaal when he came to pick the next victim to be tortured.

i forgot all about that part. Those poor rats...

THIS ONES A GIRL YOU IDIOT! :lmao:

any one hear if there will be a Super Bowl spot tomorrow?

Yeah, there may be most likely. It'll be a 45-second promo spot.

I see Locke in the trailer. He's behind Aliser Thorne.

Recasts on a series with so many prominent characters I think are difficult for viewers who don't read the books or discuss & clarify things on forums or elsewhere with those in the know (probably a majority). There's probably a possibility that many will think it's a new/different character unless it's handled very well.

Yeah, but the Mountain's role has been small enough while all three actor's have been tall enough to largely overcome any confusion. Steven had just about the perfect height and glare, White had an awesomely deep voice for a body that was a bit too thin, and this new guy's built like a mammoth, so he actually will swing his great sword with one hand.

I am curious if they'll overdub his dialogue or not, though.

What was the reason for recasting these 2 roles? Agreed on the Mountain. The recast is not too glaring there. This one's a bit different as they're recasting one distinctive looking guy with another. If it was a Stark being recast then people would know for sure but as this is a new character introduced at the same time as a bunch of other new characters some might think the new Daario is yet another new character (especially from the trilaer before things have a chance to be explained) unless it is made obvious somehow. People who either read the books, rewatch the episodes, are very attentive or discuss with those who know their stuff will as always be fine on stuff like this and it shouldn't matter too much if it's made obvious for the others. Is he a big character later on? (don't need specifics :yay:)

The two re-castings happen when the actors pissed off the the creators by making other commitments. It really is that simple. The guy playing Daario made a commit to do other work during filming, just like the original Mountain did.

They never discuss it, but David and Daniel have a bit of dog to them, and they don't like being messed with. And I honestly don't blame them. It is extremely hard to get this show made in the first place. They don't need to that kind of trouble from non-main cast players.

Well, it's for not being main cast players the reason they took other commitments, they don't want to be restrained into a some small roles.

Except then they can't complain when they don't get picked up. All they had to do was read the books to realize both roles would grow with the seasons. The Mountain is a potentially iconic character and Conan gave it up to not be in the Hobbit.

Yea Clegane should be as iconic a character as The Hound if not more so.

Well you need to pay the bills somehow, not play the waiting game. Stephen Dillane plays Stannis Baratheon, but he is also doing the British/French version of Tunnel.

If anything, the actors should have been informed and given better contracts, but again, that's also rather impossible because the scripts for the next season haven't been written. It's hard to determine from the books, how much that translates to the television show.

It is not a waiting game. They knew they appear. Conan Stevens literally stood up GoT in favor of the Hobbit, and then got cut... twice. :funny:

He got a sweet Gundabad General miniature out of the deal, though.

Mountain had like what? 1 episode per season? With season 3 maybe having 2-3 just to build him up? SPOILERS REGARDING THE FUTURE OF GAME OF THRONES, DON'T READ PLEASE:
Then it's another few seasons of 1-2 episodes with him having a helmet on, because he's Undead.

Do you honestly think the payment would have been better, compared to being a stunt man in movies?

They clearly wrote around the character in season 2 and 3. They showed him as little as possible in season 2.

And maybe the pay was better to not being in the Hobbit. But he missed out on having a real role in a series that is changing television and is going to go down in history.

Who knows if he would have stayed, maybe the audience would have connected more and he could have had more scenes written for him or some of his material would have been kept in.

I really don't see how big of an influence this is ever going to have for Steven Conans career. Again, the Mountain has 1 big scene, and potentially another big scene SPOILERS FOR GAME OF THRONES, DON'T READ:
In the next book.

Like, does anyone casual ever remember this guy? I mean, i understand your point if we we're to talk about Daario Naharis, but Gregor Clegane? I disagree.

The Mountain is one of the most popular characters in the series, both book and show. His connection to the Hound is enough. People either hate Daario or don't know he exist. :funny:

Daario needs to get his head caved in during the opening of Winds of Winter.

If Conan Stevens had stayed on GoT he would have been a household name and beloved by children.
