this gif is the best for me. Tywin's "what is wrong with this family" is glorious.

He is a hard man. I know in the books, Tyrion says he's never seen his father smile, or something along those lines. I think it was during the reenactment, though.

"Every once in a very long while, Lord Tywin Lannister would actually threaten to smile; he never did, but the threat alone was terrible to behold.”

this quote is from A Storm of Swords, right after Tyrion finds about Robb's engagement wiith Jeyne( Book Talisa). this pretty much hints that Tywin was already planning the Red Wedding, and (for book readers), Jeyne Westerling's mother had already told Tywin that she was all Lannister team.

I don't know how Viserys beat Joffrey there. Viserys was just a stupid spoiled brat. Joffrey was a sick sadomasochist who actually killed a woman and not to mention was responsible for the deaths of Ned Stark and Robert's bastard children. The worst thing Viserys did was threaten Daenerys. Viserys is nothing compared to Joffrey. Having said that, yes, his death scene was awesome. But it was nowhere near as satisfying as Joffrey's.

When he spit out his drink while laughing, I almost thought that was when [blackout]the poisoning[/blackout] was starting. Got a little excited. :o

I remember at ComicCon they played the reel of all the deaths in the show...people actually cheered when Viserys died. He's nowhere near as bad as Joffrey, and as a whole much more sympathetic, but it was good seeing an abuser try that **** and just have Drogo own his ass.

Viserys is basically Joffrey, except he was on the losing side (Targaryen) instead of the winning team (Lannister).

Eh. Viserys got what he had coming, but he was nowhere near as sadistic as Joffrey.

If he gained greater power (or any at all, really), he could've been.

Viserys' death scene was definitely best even if Joffrey was the far bigger character and villain. I really liked both actors.

I do find it kind of odd that Tommen hasn't gotten more screen time, or lines. Like, when he's sitting next to Tyrion. I almost forgot about him after Season 2.

I mean, he is the heir presumptive to the throne. I assume now that he's king, he'll at least get some lines.
Probably why they think they can get away with recasting him.

Alex Graves who directed this episode had some stuff to say to HuffPost Live:

'Game Of Thrones' Director Says Episode 2 Is Smallest One This Season

Is the mystery of who killed Joffrey going to be resolved soon or play out all season?

You find out in the season is all I’ll say. And also, the thing I would say about Joffrey’s death, like any death on “Game of Thrones,” it’s an end, but it’s also a beginning of a story. The same with Ned Stark’s beginning.

It’s such a big way to start off a new season and sets a really high bar for what’s the come for the next eight episodes. Will there be more just as shocking moments?

Well let me just say this, I directed four episodes [this season] and number two [“The Lion and the Rose”] was the smallest episode. Wait till you see episode 10. The finale is really a finale. It’s not the episode after episode nine, it’s the big one.

Hold on to your butts! This seasons gonna be insane!:awesome:

It's been an excellent start so far. 2 awesome episodes. GoT is getting even better!

I have always felt bad for Viserys. Where Joffrey was pure evil the moment he was born, little Viserys lost himself to circumstance. Joffrey, like Ramsay, was always going to be this way.

Hmmm. Big fire in episode ten, perhaps? I was indifferent to Viserys. I could only see him gaining followers based on his bloodline. Once the hypothetical followers got to know Viserys a bit better, it wouldn't surprise me if he was left in a river with a blade in his back. He was pretty ineffectual. There's a slightly better case for Joffrey in the books, though.

Aside from inbreeding, Robert had hit young Joff so hard that Stannis thought he was dead. That probably contributed to his mental instability.

That's true. We don't know how he would've turned out had he not had his family ripped to shreds and been forced into exile as a small child, whereas we know exactly how Joff turned out under those circumstances.

Then again, considering who his father was, you never know...

1. Lady Stoneheart.
2. The New Lord Commander.
3. Crapping Gold.
4. Bloodraven.
5. Only Cat.
6. Goodbye Jorah.
7. Boat trip for Arya.

I agree. Specially considering that Viserys was always on the run, without a loving family to take care of him (granted, Joffrey's family wasn't also really loving to him, except maybe his mother), and with all that weight of him being the one who had the task to restore the Targaryen dinasty.
Imagine enduring all that pressure, and add to that that he was just a 20 year old young man.

this doesn't erase the fact that he was abusive and cruel, but Viserys cannot be compared with Joffrey. IMO Viserys is just as tragic a character as Ned or Robb (though Eddard and Robb are way more sympathetic, and... er... good.), whereas Joffrey was always a cruel little boy (granted, he was a child)

This video pretty much sums everything Viserys experienced his whole life. specially from 2:32 onwards.
He was never loved nor shown any sign of care from anyone in his life. though the irony is that, the only person who did (Dany) was the one he always tortured

if there's a cruel scale, you would have Viserys <<<< Joffrey <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<Ramsay. and only on top of Ramsay, there is Roose. "The son is but the shadow of the father"

sory for the long post and my English.

Should have hit him harder. :o

I always remember Dany's memories of her little brother. The one that comforted her and treated her kindly.

Two things after watching the episode again:

1. Why did they bother recasting Tommen if they were going to cast someone who seems to be older than the kid who was already playing him?

2. While the Sigur Ros cover of "Rains of Castamere" is beautifully haunting, was anyone else hoping they would cover a song from the books that hasn't been done yet? "The Last of the Giants" would have been perfect for them, especially since all the stuff beyond the Wall is filmed in Iceland and Sigur Ros is from...Iceland. It just seems like a missed opportunity. And if it ends up happening later this season, I will happily eat crow.

I think that was the same kid. Considering we haven't see Tommen since, unless I'm wrong, Blackwater in S2, it's perfectly likely that puberty hit and he shot up a foot and a half since we last saw him.

Sigur Rós should just do a whole GOT album as Sigur Westerós.

No, Tommen was recast and the actor is older. I think anyone who has read the books knows why.

So.....

(book spoilers)

....they did it to make it less creepy when Margaery marries Tommen? It doesn't really make sense to me, as the whole point of that to begin with is that Margaery is supposed to be much older than Tommen. The new actor looks almost as old as Joffrey.

They probably though it was more suitable for TV.

The new actor looks pretty soft. They'll probably play him as a momma's boy. Speaking of which, was that a Tyrell woman that Cersei sent to Qyburn (the one Pycelle was flirting with)?
