So Tyrion's trial, the best scene in the series? I don't know, but it might very well be.
It's definitely up there. I don't know which I like more from this season, the trial or Joffrey's poisoning. The trial was definitely Tyrion's best scene...so far. We book readers know [BLACKOUT]he still has some heavy stuff coming up in the finale. [/BLACKOUT]

But best in the series as a whole? I don't know. It's hard to top the Red Wedding for sheer impact alone.

I couldn't actually even hear the punchline to that joke because of those two....artists.

I watched that scene again...just to listen for the punchline, I swear. :o
Anyway, I think the punchline is that once the captain sees he's surrounded, he shouts out "Bring me my brown pants!"

All in all a top notch episode. I have the same gripes about Yara and her "attack" but I feel it didn't detract overall from a solid showing. Of course Tyrion's speech was amazing, really felt the emotion and impact of it. Seeing how far gone Reek is too. Love this show, can't wait till next week!

Edit: Found this and put it in the Stupid People thread but figured ya'll would get a kick out of this too if you don't visit the community page that much.

Tyrion Lannister's dramatic demand for "trial by combat" at the end of last night's Game of Thrones has precedent. Not just in the annals of ancient Germanic law: 12 years ago, an "unemployed mechanic" demanded trial by combat over a motor-vehicle fine.

In 2002, 60-year-old Leon Humphreys of Bury St. Edmonds, England, demanded a trial by combat from the mad king Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency. The Telegraph reports:

Leon Humphreys remained adamant yesterday that his right to fight a champion nominated by the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) was still valid under European human rights legislation. He said it would have been a "reasonable" way to settle the matter.
Humphreys, who had been fined £25 by the DVLA, said he "was willing to fight a champion put up by the DVLA, but it would have been a fight to the death." (Humphreys offered to fight with "samurai swords, Ghurka knives or heavy hammers.")

There was a moment, and this is no joke, that I was absolutely frightened that they'd show Reek's mutilated genitals onscreen when Ramsay smiled at seeing him naked.

Thank the Old Gods and the New, that they didn't show us.

This. I was terrified of this too, as if we didn't pity the character enough. Ironically, I ended up watching Penny Dreadful afterwards where they did end up showing some guy's genitals. :wow: Clever, HBO, clever.

I always enjoy your opinions GSR, so I'll bite, which was your favourite?

"The Lion and the Rose", of course. :cwink:

Though we still have four more episodes to go. There's still some chance something more impressive is cooking up. But Dinklage killed it in the end of the trial scene.

The Red Wedding might not be in my top 10 for the show, so I'd say the trial was better. Tyrion's trial is competing with the Purple Wedding, Ned's death, Tyrion's Story, the Golden Crown, Jaime and Brienne in the bath, Robert and Cersei's conversation, all Tywin scenes, Robert and Ned fighting over the fate of Arya and Lady, etc.

....that's actually pretty funny :lmao:

Just watched the last episode. Hot diggity.

Tyrion's trial was beyond amazing. That standoff face between Tywin and Tyrion at the end was something else.

A casual viewer friend of mine asked me today:

"So Tyrion wants a trial by combat. Does that mean he's gonna fight his dad?"

Tell him yes. Get him hyped up for nothing. :p

Then again he won't be disappointed by the actual trial by combat (or rather the combatants who will volunteer) as that fight should be one of the more interesting 1v1 hand on hand combat battles we've seen in a while.

I can't believe our first scene with the new Mountain won't come until next week.

Also by the way people, prepare to be hugely disappointed, as GoT will be taking a week off before the trial by combat. We won't be seeing it until June. :(

Nope. They are talking Memorial Day off. The first two seasons they didn't do it, but the last two seasons they have. It is maddening.

Well, even that scene is a TV-show only addition. The Mountain is largely treated like a boogeyman of sorts in the books. Often spoken of, sparingly seen.

But the right thing to do. Season 2 had a ratings drop on memorial day weekend.

Just saw it. Tyrion was awesome!

Awesome episode. That ending was incredibly cathartic. Very powerful stuff.

I'd say Ned's execution tops the Red Wedding.

That does raise an interesting question. Is Tywin a good fighter?

Given that his son is (or was) one of the deadliest fighters in the world, he presumably has some skill.

He's not really a fighter, or at least no one ever sings his praises. As I recall from AFFC, Jaime got it all from his uncle Tygett, Tywin's younger brother who died.

So you mean Tywin's brother f***** Tywin's wife, and she then gave birth to Tygett's sons?

Man, that dynasty won't straighten up at all.
