HBO's Game of Thrones - - Part 16

Lyanna was actually supposed to have looked like Arya. Sansa, Robb, Bran and Rickon are all said to have resembled Catelyn, while Jon and Arya resemble Ned. It's one of the reasons Catelyn resents Jon, since he "looks" more like a Stark than her trueborn sons.

i know but they're siblings, so it's not that far off with sansa having darker hair now.

Damn that was brutal.

Oberyn's biggest mistake was getting caught up in that emotional storm of being reminded of his sister. Ego, arrogance and sadness overcame him in the end.

Givent the nature of his death I highly doubt he even heard what the Mountain was saying. His teeth being knocked out, his jaw shattered, his eyes being pushed into his brain, and the unbelievable cranial pressure...he was in shock and his brain would have been overloaded. The only thing he would have been doing in those last seconds was screaming and literally crapping and pissing his pants. This is a case where D&D's insistence on shocking the audience with brutality has gotten in the way of their other intentions. That death scene doesnt make it possible for Oberyn to hear or process let alone enjoy that confession. So while he got the Mountain to confess Oberyn never knew. He was too busy getting distracted by his gruesome ridiculous death.

The scene was literally ripped from the book (minus a few things, such as the great line, "I will hunt you through all seven hells if you die before you say her name"), so I can't fault them for that. Nonetheless, since Oberyn was a warrior, I think he would have rather died avenging his sister than of old age.

Yeah in the Books more so than in the show Oberyn is a renowned fighter who is deadly, poison plays a part but he is said to be very dangerous.

Was it the confession he wanted though? I got the impression that the mountain raping and murdering his sister and her children was generally accepted in Dorne. What Oberyn was actually looking for was confirmation that it was the Lannisters that gave the order. He never got that confession though.

Well what he wanted was for EVERYONE ELSE to hear it. In Dorne they're already very much ready to do what needs to be done to Tywin Lannister.

Pretty brutal. I knew from the book his death was going to be pretty graphic and involved a lot of teeth, eyes, and brains going in various places. I was just curious to see how far HBO would actually go with it, and boy did they go with it. Yeesh.

Loved the various looks on Tyrion's face during the scene (Dinklage is the best). He went from. "Here goes nothing" to "Wow, this guy can really fight" to "what the hell are you doing?" to "F me".

and that's why you should always wear a helmet when climbing a mountain!

It's hard to say, since I haven't got up to this point in the books, but the way it's been setup on the show...these seems to be a very bad thing for the Lannisters. We saw Tywin breakdown the reasons the Lannisters NEED an alliance with the Martells. Wouldn't it have been in their best interest to stop that fight from even happening? I know it's a holy fight, and that officially there couldn't be any reprisal for it, but you'd think that Tywin could manipulate the situation somehow.

For as happy as Cersei seemed, I'm expecting Oberyn's death to bite the Lannisters in the ass.

So Roose was leading his bannermen toward Winterfell?

Aye, My captain.

Yes it was the final shot of the Bolton scenes. They were riding towards a hill, and on top of that hill, layed Winterfell.

Wow! Just wow....

That. Was. Brutal.

I love how as soon as Obiron bit it, Tywin wasted no time to declare Tyrion's death sentence. Just when I thought this show couldn't possibly get any better.

That's the thing, and sadly it was seemingly underplayed in the TV show. That whole duel was a lose/lose situation for Tywin. (In the books it was a much bigger thing when Oberyn was announced as Tyrion's champion.) Either Tyrion goes free and he loses his best fighter or he's got a dead Dornish prince on his hands, and a vital alliance he needs to fight off the potential dragon invasion from Dany is made even more shaky.

It's too bad we'll never get to see Jaime (with his good hand) fighting the Mountain.

^The crazy part is he's even hunched over flexing in that pic too.

If they ever chose to go the non-CGI route with the Hulk, he's their guy.

LOL! I'd seen that picture of Pedro Pascal and Lena Headey as the buzz about Pedro joining the cast circulated.
I guess they had become an item

I had no idea what an insider spoiler it contained, and what's so great is that it's her character who brings it about. So awesome! Or horrifying, I'm still so emotionally destroyed I can't tell anymore.:funny::waa: Help me:dry:

Seems like the better match would have been Brienne against the Mountain since she did technically beat Jamie...even though he was handcuffed.

Wow, what an episode... my heart's still pounding!

I suspected going in that things would end badly for Oberyn, given how my Facebook feed has been filled with lots of ominous posts about this episode's shocking, horrifying ending. But when Oberyn had the Mountain downed, I started to think maybe my fears were wrong.... not so lucky. And though I suspected things to be bad, I don't think I was prepared for it to be THAT bad. One of the nastiest deaths I've ever seen on television.

I also love how it undermined that trope of "wiley little guy who's a master fighter dismantles the big monster." No, this is Westeros. In this miserable world, of course the big, nasty brute wins.

I don't think so. Seems like it would be a boring battle and that would be over quick. They both move slow and I can't see her beating the Mountain. If the Red Viper didn't have an ulterior motive, he'd have killed him easily. He was on his back not moving. All he needed to do was jam the spear through his head.

For real that guy is massive
